Have you noticed that every scene they're together Carl wears a tie,but at her funeral he's wearing a bow tie? It's because he never learnt how to do a tie himself, because Ellie always did it for him....
I think the saddest part was when Carl was finally able to afford plane tickets to South America and was planning on surprising Ellie with them at another picnic, only for her to fall ill and pass away.
This was my grandfather’s favourite movie(one of them) before he passed away. Today I’m revisiting this song because it makes me think of him. Miss you loads, Grandpa.
When the last few seconds play, it just reminds me of how when I was little I was grandma’s “girl”, until i realised she wasn’t a good person, and I was grandpa’s boy. I remember him downloading games on his IPad(because I was an iPad kid when I was younger) and I would play it every time I would be at his house. Another notable memory is Halloween, we were out the back of the house lighting fireworks. He took me to his workplace sometimes. He also had worked on my Primary School interior. He showed me his Lego and I would always build with it. That all changed when he hit his head, and became an alcoholic. He was still the Gramps I knew, until later. He forgot a bunch of stuff, and his house stank of cigarettes, but I didn’t mind, I was with my grandpa. Sometimes I can still smell him, I have his old jacket and sweater. Thanks for being there for me, Gramps.
This is the soundtrack of a lifelong marriage. The song always sounds the same, it never changes. It has ups and downs, changed in tempo and pitch, but it never changes. And it always ends on a somber note for one spouse or the other. But it is always the same, beautiful, precious song.
Haven't experienced any sort of love. But this soundtrack makes me imagines how a healthy relationship would sounds like. Slowly, it makes me cry. Not the fact that it's beautiful, it is. Though, is it really possible for me to achieve love?

Yesterday. I was perfectly happy, just sitting there doing my LEGOs. I randomly started to listen to this. As the final 30 seconds of solo piano began to play, I read a particularly heart-wrenching comment and without warning broke down, heaving, in tears. I sat at my dining room table weeping for upwards of five minutes. My mother was on a conference call, and when she finished she heard me crying. She rushed to ask what was wrong. I told her, "my childhood is slowly slipping away, and there's nothing any of us can do about it..." She began to cry as well. She sat down next to me and wrapped me in her arms. We stayed in that position for a long time. When we finally broke apart, I just said, "Thank you." My mom just smiled, tears still in her eyes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Whoever wrote that comment, girl or boy, thank you. This song reminds me of my family. We all used to live in a nice house in VA for years. My parents had to move out of country because my dad got orders to be stationed in south america. I stayed because I was joining the army myself. 2 years passed and i was done with my training and was stationed about 5 hours away so I took a trip to VA to meet up with old friends. After driving the old route, I took a detour to see the house. With my 2 brothers in florida and my parents a whole country away, seeing that old house made my heart feel as if they were right there beyond that houses door. But my mind knew they were much farther away. I cried remembering the feeling of having my family nearby all the time and the feeling of being alone can be hard. I miss them so very much but it makes me happy to know that I'm making them proud. Whether you are with them now or far away from them, make sure to let them know that you care and love them.

Can we all take a moment to remember that Ellie had a miscarriage. I NEVER understood that (mostly because I was young when this came out.) I just thought she couldn't have a baby...But thinking back on it now it's so fucking heart breaking. Carl and Ellie wanted to start a family so bad. Just. The way the song dips into that slow sad melody during the scene they figure out the baby died very early on. As well as after Ellie's passing. Really does manage to pull the tears right out, doesn't it?
That, and when he met Russell, he got that adventurous spirit in him re-ignited (when it comes to Kevin), which was there because of Ellie. He was too grumpy after she died, but once he saw those "Stuff I'm gonna do" in that Adventure Book, he started living again. He was dead inside, as in he didn't care what was happening around him. He was just there. This scene is actually very cathartic, and healthy. I mean, who wouldn't love a good cry?
@@TwilightLink77 you can tell it's a miscarriage based on context, they had already built the nursery, normally that only happens when you're already expecting a baby, then you have the scene where Ellie is sitting outside, where you can feel that it was smth more than just her being infertile, it was something far deeper.

So, my dog is 15 years old now and he's still really active and healthy. He still enjoys taking long walks, plays with me, etc. I was just reflecting on our relationship and the times we spent together so far, as this song startet playing in my head. It took me some time to figure out where it was from again. Now I remember and frankly, I am not okay.

I've been looking for this song, forever! This song made me cry when I was younger. I recently found out it's name, and I'm glad I can hear the sweet, but sad tune again.
I disagree. It’s undeniable that the first part of the movie completely overshadows the rest, but the whole thing is great. It’s a perfect balance of fun for the kids, but it hits home on an emotional level too.
They have just released Dug Days Life, a story of Carl and Dug, which is great too. But yeah, a story of Carl & Ellie from the start of their friendship to their marriage....oh man I'm crying.
I have never seen "Up", and didn't know this composition was written for that movie. I saw the new iPad Christmas commercial a few days ago that uses this as the background music, and it made me cry like a baby!! I lost my Mother three years ago and it made me realize how much I truly miss her- especially with the holidays fast approaching!! I first heard this a few years back when it was used in the Save The Food campaign commercial called "Life Of A Strawberry". I thought it had been written for that commercial, since I was not aware of it coming from "Up". If you haven't had the chance to see either of these commercials, you can find both of them here on UA-cam- they are sad to watch, but each of them for different reasons.
This shows you just how short life is. To appreciate the things in life that make you happy…. To embrace those you love… because they may not always be there physically….but deep down in our hearts they live on forever
Have you noticed that every scene they're together Carl wears a tie,but at her funeral he's wearing a bow tie? It's because he never learnt how to do a tie himself, because Ellie always did it for him....

I've been looking for this song, forever! This song made me cry when I was younger. I recently found out it's name, and I'm glad I can hear the sweet, but sad tune again.
Foxy Wafflez what is it ?
married life
Came here immediately after finding out about the passing of Ed Asner...
Good-Bye Mr. Fredricksen...You're will Ellie now...
What a beautiful piece to accompany a very powerful scene. Movies would be nothing without the musical score to support them.
1:17 when you open up tf2 for the first time since 2014
You know...wasn't expecting to find a tf2 comment here...
A surprise to be sure...but a welcomed one
Why do people dislike?
Because they don't have feelings
They jelly they don’t have a better soundtrack than this
they were crying and mistook the dislike button for the like button
They're australian
Haters gonna hate.
I still cry to this even if there's no footage
Michael Giacchino is a genius! This literally goes from the happiest music ever to the saddest music ever, and it even keeps the same melody!
Rest In Peace Ed, made my childhood ❤️
This is beyond my favorite movie!
The only way to surpass that is for it to be the best movie ever.
PurplePinkBlueDragon it’s my favourite along with toy story and cars
Up and WALL E are my favorite movies of all time.
Rip ed asner you will forever be in our hearts
Rest easy Ed. I know Carl and Ellie are dancing together at Paradise Falls
Rest In Peace Ed Asner, may you soar high above the clouds.
듣고 있으면 마음이 편안해지고 행복해져요ㅠㅠ♡♡♡
When the doctor said you only have 4 minutes and 10 seconds left to live.
Edmar Guillermo if only Ellie had that long
TheFanGaming95 too soon man
The saddest thing is that you can never listen to the one second smh
Play it at my funaral again
This song will help you remember all that happened throughout your life
Imagine if at the end of Endgame credits, they showed the text. "The Avengers Will Not Return."
i wouldve sobbed so loudly
good
A good ending is better than a neverending stupidity
진짜 이 브금이 짱이야 너무 좋아... 감성적이야......

Ностальгия... Лучший мультфильм.
“i’m not crying, i’m sweating from my eyes”
-buford van swomm
yeah this always makes me cry
Rip ed anser thank you for the childhood memories
Rest easy Ed Asner
One of the greatest and most saddest opening's in cinema history
I think pixar should make another movie just about carl and ellies relationship. That would be great
I disagree. It’s undeniable that the first part of the movie completely overshadows the rest, but the whole thing is great. It’s a perfect balance of fun for the kids, but it hits home on an emotional level too.
@@HopPanaccio i actually thing that the final part of the movie is stronger than the first 10 minutes
@@dancingharrison I mean , you don't have to mean about it.
No, this movie is better left alone. A sequel, no matter how good, would ruin it.
They have just released Dug Days Life, a story of Carl and Dug, which is great too. But yeah, a story of Carl & Ellie from the start of their friendship to their marriage....oh man I'm crying.
RM stop cutting Onion's 😭😭😭
“How do boys sleep”

We love you Ed. Rest in peace
mỗi khi buồn tôi thường nghe bài này để có thêm niềm vui
God rest Ed Asner. :'-(
The years can pass, and this song always makes me cry like a baby ;___;
R.I.P Ed Asner, the legend
이노래는 언제들어도 좋아♥ 힐링된다~

I’m not crying to the music, I’m just coincidentally cutting onions while listening
"And in real life endings aren't always neat, whether they're happy endings, or whether they're sad endings." -Stephen King
Sad for a totally different reason now. RIP
Michael Giacchino
Your a bloody genius for making this song
" I swear, these fifty days were really fun"- Joseph Joestar
This hurts different now...
I absolutely adore that this piece is composed around what’s happening in the scene. Pure art.
1:20😞 3:18 is so sad
Sophia 1802_ 3:18-4:02 Reminds me of my depressing childhood I grew up in. :(
Sophia1721 __ yes it still breaks my heart😪
It actually starts at 1:11 where you get the deepest nostalgia
This shows you just how short life is. To appreciate the things in life that make you happy…. To embrace those you love… because they may not always be there physically….but deep down in our hearts they live on forever
OMG !!! i fking cried
