    We have a home with a finished basement and a separate HVAC unit for each floor...3700 sq ft with about 1800 finished for each level. Last November i replaced a builder grade Lennox unit with a pretty pricey Daiken Fit variable unit which came with the apparently infamous Daiken thermostat which has the wheel in it. After about 8 months of usage we love the savings we are seeing in our electric bills, but using the thermostat has been an ongoing nightmare of sorts. I have a service contract with the company i bought the Daiken from here in Georgia and the tech who came out for the summer service call told me my humidity levels are too high on both levels ...he tested them and showed me levels in the mid 50s range. He said i should consider installing a whole home humidifier for $4500....not happening. Anyway while here he turned on an element of the Daiken thermostat which apparently is supposed to lower humidity .I think it does so by lowering the temperature setting for the first floor where the Daiken is ( My builder grade Lennox still works well for the lower leverl). I have become fairly but not totally conversant which how to use the various automated features of the Daiken thermostat but I was and still am unfamiliar with the "dehumidifier element" which can be activated by the thermostat. Unfortunately, we find the dehumidifying element of the system being activated fairly frequently these days...June..July...and when it does it lowers the temperature in the thermostat to a level which makes it a lot colder than we want it to be in our first floor. I need to learn how to turn off the dehumidifier setting in the thermostat because i actually dont think we have a humidity problem in our house, or at least not one which is anywhere near a problem. For example, the humidity in my lower level as i type this is 43% ...based on a weather gizmo i have downstairs which shows the outside humidity at 92%. I am buying a humidity tester for upstairs to monitor the humidity going forward.
    My question to you is how do i turn OFF the dehumidifier element of the Daiken wheel thermostat so i can just use our Automatic setting for hot and cold and set it at something like 73 or 74 . With the dehumidifying element working my lips are turning BLUE! Thanks so much for your help. I am now a dedicated subscriber going forward!

      It’s a setting to turn off called “overcool to dehumidify” and it should be in the basic settings (meaning you don’t need to go into the installer menu). You can also change the overcool/deadband which basically will overshoot by a few degrees so that you have longer run times and reduces short cycling but my suggestion for comfort to set that to the minimal setting. But turning off “overcool to dehumidify” will fix that other issue

    I have the new Daikin One Touch and it can't deal with dual band wifi. I had to use a wifi extender that only does one band to get it to stay connected. The stupid up and down arrows with slider are tiny, like for fingers of an infant. They really need to adjust the size of the buttons. Take a note from Ecobee.

      That would be a nice feature and probably a simple update, the easiest way is just based on your changeover temp that way you can tell what’s actually running. Do you know what the changeover temp is set at? If you look at the furnace it’s easy to tell obviously but I know what you’re asking for, for it to show in the app :)

    I can confirm one touch doesn't have wif connection issues, I have it for 3+ months now. However, I'm very irritated by the fact Daikin didn't think a remote temp sensor was needed!! they should be offering compatibility with redlink accessories since it's the same base CTK04 system. I might end up getting split unite for the bedroom to get over this. but if they can make C7189R1004 work with Daikin One touch it would be amazing.

    I have a new Daikin FIT system in a Fla environment. It is great when it works. I too have been struggling with the installer for over a year now trying to get the ONE+ stat working. It reboots 7-8x day, locks up with “white screen” and loses communication with other systems circuit boards. I can go on and on but if I had known about these issues in advance I wouldn’t have taken the chance on Daikin. I had Trane and Carrier systems for 18, 20 years, respectively and they ran great. @@TheHVACDopeShow Thank you for the response and insight. The thermostat in the master bedroom upstairs is right next to the door which is next to the front foyer. As a result the heat downstairs rises up the foyer to master bedroom. When the heat downstairs is set to 67, the temperature on the upstairs thermostat reads 67 even though the thermostat is set to 62. As a result the upstairs heat won’t turn on unless I set it above the temperature downstairs.

      I’m 90% sure on this but if you are using a BRC my guess is this is on a VRV life system is that correct? If so double check because it technically has a gateway module so it’s a little different setup. I’ll have to check with the parts house to refresh my memory but the Daikin one has a + version for VRV systems, and I believe they came out with a touch as well!

      Firmware update? Idk if you’re connected to a specific network that’s 2.4 vs. 5 ghz but if you try connecting to a different network frequency (sometimes routers broadcast at 2 frequencies) this can make a difference. So the one plus has a dial, light bar and 2 aux. The One Touch has 1 aux and no dial or light bar. I assume the internal parts are exactly the same, so besides getting rid of the ugly wheel, I don't think it would be worth upgrading to the one touch. They both have 3.5" screens. I would have liked more details about how the communicating thermostats work and compatible systems. What makes these thermostats so much better than something like an ecobee or nest.
    I just had a new 4 ton system installed - AMVE air handler with ASZV9 condenser. The installers spent all day messing around with the thermostat and were having major issues. The thermostat they were trying to install (and presumably provided by their vendor who they got the equipment from) was incompatible with the condenser (looked like the white one in your video). I'm not fully up to speed but it sounds like the the thermostat they were trying to install was a communicating stat but couldn't control the condenser. So they put my old ecobee back in and went through a lot of power down and power up cycles to reset the system such that the AMVE will do the control. But i believe i'm losing a lot of detailed features and functionality by not using a communicating thermostat.
    They are trying to get me the new Amana smart touch screen thermostat but seem to be having issues locating one for me. Just feels really bad having this many issues right off the bat with the Amana/Goodman system and making me question if i should have gone with the Carrier Infinity series and gotten better support/integration/installation. Company doing the Amana install has been in business for 100+ years and very reputable in my area, but maybe this is just teething pains with these brand new high end systems. Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth with how much we are paying for this system, and the fact that i am spending more for the Amana system than i would have for a Carrier Infinity system as i wanted to go with the company that's been around longer.

    • @TheHVACDopeShow
      @TheHVACDopeShow  6 місяців тому +1

      Oftentimes communicating issues are the wiring if it’s not picking up the condenser. This is true with all manufacturers… It sounds like they are waiting for now but are going to put in a communicating thermostat once they figure out the issue? 90% of the time it’s communication issues related to wiring or the wires used. If they run a stranded wire to the condenser they will get better communication. This is why VRV units use stranded wires because you get much better communication / signal that way. I would maybe pass that along because I’ve heard that can help. Anytime we’ve had communication issues / not picking up condensers it’s usually wiring. Because if the wire is connected and double lugged into the Phoenix connector they’ll have issues vs. having a single wire going to the Phoenix connector, and then having the communication wires meeting in a wire nuts. Hope this helps them resolve it I would pass that along. What city / state are you in? I may be able to find some support for you and pass this along

      they ran a new wire set from the air handler to the condenser along with the new line set. I do believe the wire set is solid core and not stranded, i'll take a look if anything is double lugged. ecobee stat is working fine. original stat they tried to use was the CTK04 but according to the Amana rep on the phone said that stat was not compatible with the ASZV9 condensor. I'm now waiting on the ATST-CWE-BL-A thermostat which does indicate in its datasheet that it is compatible with the ASZV9 condensor.

Instead of using an 18/4 shielded bundle use 2-18/2 shielded bundles isolating the VAC from the VDC conductors with only the VDC circuit shield tied back to the legacy C terminal within the indoor unit.
