This is exactly the sort of series I need right now. I'm playing through all of my realistic wargames in chronological order right now and this series is just the thing to be keeping up on as I make my way through WW2.
Very extensive knowledge base on this interesting vehicle which often punched above its weight. A better Q card position and maybe a desk would help to relax the hands. Great pics. Thanks for the hard work. Very good. RPM and IBG and others do kits of this tankette,mostly 1/35 thank goodness and gamers have them in resin models. Gave Germany's blitzkrieg a battering in the early stages of its Polish invasion.
@Polish Hero Witold Pilecki correct Nazi Germany faced bancrupcy already in late 1935 hence the program of taking over Jewish property was started under Nuremberg Laws. The only reason why III Reich and USSR were able to afford this race to industrialization was their government willingness to engage in genocide.
This series might be improved by having a desk to lean on, facing the camera directly and being placed somewhat off-centre, in the corner, with more pictures in the background. There's some green screen anomalies on your right cheek, right forearm and the tank on your shirt. Looking forward to more in the series. Thanks!
Hi James, Thanks for the input. Yes, we are working on the technical issues. The greenscreen for this episode was not as evenly light as I would have hoped, making keying a bit tricky. Expect to see changes with each episode as we figure out the optimum way to shoot them.

Worth noting that the tankette concept is not completely dead even in the modern era. The Wiesel (technically an Armored Weapons Carrier, which is essentially a tankette in all but name) is a small air-transportable AFV that provides armored support to airborne forces that would otherwise have absolutely no armor of any kind. It's armor is just good enough to protect against small arms and shell fragments, but otherwise would probably be destroyed even by something as small as a 40mm grenade launcher. It is small and easy to conceal (by the standards of an AFV), highly mobile, and versions equipped with the TOW missile can provide effective anti-tank support, while versions equipped with the 20mm autocannons provide effective anti-personnel support. Also, like the TKS, it's just the most adorable little AFV ever! Unlike the TKS it fills a clearly defined role that can't easily be filled by heavier tanks or IFVs.
Good point, I have often thought the Wiesel looks a good deal like those old British light tanks of the 1930's. Airborne forces are usually the exception to the rule when it comes to AFV trends.

It will be a while until I get to the Italian tanks. I will cover them when I get to my series on the fighting in the Mediterranean. Honestly, I will need the time to work on finding some good English language sources on Italian armor.

M M don't forget the ultimate evolution of the tankette, the universal carrier. I'd love to see detail on the early variations before standardisation. Bren gun carrier vs cavalry carrier vs scout carrier vs machine gun carrier. I know they're not strictly tankettes but they are the closest thing that actually proved useful.
The base tankette was equivalent to the Panzer 1. They both only had machine guns and about the same armor thickness. Too bad Poland couldn't produce more than 24 with the 20mm autocannon. This was equivalent to the Panzer 2(20mm cannon too).
Beginning with the russian tanks only after Operation Barbarossa, you get the impression that the USSR has not been actively involved in the war so far. In fact, by June 22, '41, the USSR had invaded or annexed forcibly territories from 8 countries and was fighting Japan.
Good point, but I needed some way to organize the series and addressing Soviet tanks in the Barbarossa section made the most sense. The individual episodes will cover the history of each vehicle in these earlier conflicts.

This video contains many historical mistakes is inaccurate and lacks proper historical context. Host is condescending and clearly favours Nazi Panzers. To start statement that Poland did not existed as a country before 1918 is not accurate as it existed and rose to prominent position and fall between 966 and 1795. Further more host contradicts himself talking about reinstatement of the country. Host shows no understanding of the means by which Nazi Germany and Soviet Union got industrialized and shows no knowledge of COP and forgets about the fact Nazi spending almost bankrupted the country. Speaking about technical details host forgets to mention that reversible periscope on TKS was a breakthrough Polish design by eng Gundlach that was later given to Brits who had in turn provided it to Soviets and Americans. That design, known as MK4 periscope, was used on every major allied tank designs since then. Further speaking about Edmund Orlik host fails to state one of the destroyed tanks destroyed during the battle of Pociecha was Panzer IV commanded by Count Von Ratibor. Overall pronunciation of Polish names is wrong and is not even close to proper. Overall good idea poor execution.
Pointing out that the German Panzers of 1939 were superior to the Polish TK series of tankettes is a historical fact, not a mere preference on my part.
@@thetanksofworldwarii-tanka4368 TKS with NKM had superior firepower to Panzer I had lower profile and was able to take out Nazi armor of all types starting with Pz I to Pz IV as shown in battle of Pociecha. I will argue as well the field of vision statement since Pz I had vision slits and TKS used MK4 periscope. Further my statement about host bias towards Nazi armor is confirmed by the amount of research time he put into videos RE panzers and the lack of thereof in videos about 7TP and TKS. Just for your info Poland had a group of projects underway that were in different stages of development in September 1939 like 10TP and 14TP cruiser tanks or 25TP .

It's a one man show. I like to say "we' when I refer to Tank and AFV News, but its really just me doing everything.
Kinda curious why they didn't mount a coaxial type anti-tank rifle to at least give them a bit of TvT capability.

TKS with NKM made up a very small percentage (less than 5%) of the TK series fleet.
