Spot on with the peak at game 5. This defense as always has a looooong way to go. Big time defensive commits in the 2024 class but they will be young. LBs Stutsman, Lewis and McCullough are beasts. Kanak is a train wreck and out of position most of the time. Gotta vigorously hit the transfer portal for DLs and LBs .
Stutsman was the same his sophomore year too.....kanak is learning and in his first year...normally he would be a redshirt freshman this season and people would think it was a big deal he playing as a freshman....he will develop.
What you guys said about based on hardly any Tight End usage (till the end of the year) we might as well use a FULLBACK..... something a former fullback..... Littrell..might DO! I Love that...last year I remember thinking if they weren't going to throw Brayden the ball, then line up Daniel Parker as a blocking FULLBACK.....they could've done that this year with Tawee.....
Agreed. TE was not utilized this season or very little. However, I think Stogner and that room was depleted with injuries. Stogner is not that guy. Devon Mitchell is J. Sanders of Texas 2.0. and will be day 1 starter. TE should be used more or might as well put a fullback in the backfield.
The TE room had Stog that's it all others were either True Freshman and not big enough yet or injured. We had no TE to pull from and Stog is a shell of himself and that's the best we could get from him and he was a liability in blocking.
@@donfrazier8103 I know this. I just like traditional fullbacks and last year we needed one. This year they actually used the Tight End to block....too often....Austin Stogner was wasted.
Let’s run the ball more. We’ve got one of the best RB rooms in the country and we just don’t use it to the best of our ability. Also our O-line is big but they don’t block that well IMO
IN this day and age, there’s always a rest to be first is there ever a rush to be right and when there’s a rush to be first or not right, there is a rush to judgment, and when there’s a rush to judgment, there’s a rush to action, you shouldn’t of taken it in the first place. BV take your time.!!!
Venables being a genius on defense should consider an OC that he believes is hard to defend. Someone that gives him nightmares to game plan and stop. Is that Littrell? Maybe. Is that someone else?
So, here's the bigger question, and I asked Gabe about this before the game on Friday...... When can we expect the Teddy Lehman "Get off my lawn" line of apparel to drop? Starting with the "RPO = BAD" T-shirt. I'm all in. 😂
They need to run that Kevin Wilson type offense. I remember him letting the QB get under center, passed to the TE and passed to the RB a lot. That spread offense is very easy to stop and one dimensional
I want defensive line play good enough to at least the point that I no longer have thoughts that the now senior citizen Selmon brothers could play some snaps
I'm not sure how to feel about Lebby leaving. At times he seemed like he could put together a brilliant game plan. Other times it seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. When he let the reigns go and let the offense do its thing I felt like he was at his best. When he tried to play chess against the uncontrollable elements, like the weather, he played a little scared it seemed. It's very difficult as a fan to reconcile the Jeff Lebby who ran the 3rd or 4th best offense in the country and the Jeff Lebby who seemed scared to let his QB throw the ball down the field against Kansas or the Jeff Lebby whose offense couldn't get it down against OSU or looked anemic at times in the BYU and UCF games. In fact, every game where our offense didn't play up to its standard and expectations was a road game. Is that something that's psychological? I know BYU's field was complete shit, but BYU had to play on the same damn grass. Our kicking woes really hurt us - even when we won the close games - and it was only a matter of time before it bit us in the ass. We need a kicker, not a belly itcher.
I’ve been harping on it for the past year. 5 of the 7 games OU lost last year could have been won if the kicker would have made all his kicks…..and almost lost the TX game and a hand full of others this year. It’s pretty telling how the coaches feel about the kicking situation when they’re going for it on 4th down when they should be going for a FG. Just when you think the kicker doesn’t matter it bites you in the butt…..
In naming the games we lost were away, but you forgot the UCF home where the Jeff Lebby offense was really bad. We would have lost that game if we hadn’t scored late in the 4th quarter.
When a picture of 2 mascots with their arms around each other captioned with "'til next time" hits you in the feels, that's when you're already 3 or 4 beers in and you start to think about the good ol' days and nostalgia punches you right in the goddamn balls. So what do you do? You drink another 3 or 4 beers. If Old Lady Nostalgia wants to try to make me feel ways about stuff I'll show her. I'll just drink until I can't feel feelings anymore.
I think the best move would be to name Seth Littrell to be the Interm OC for the bowl game. Then spend the next month figuring out the long term answer. He should be ready to pick an OC as all the bowl games are ending.
The only issue with Littrel is he hasn't called plays in almost a decade. I definitely think for the Bowl Game, it needs to be Joe Jon. But most importantly, I want them leave no stone un turned.
@@cryhwks I see what you're saying about Littrell, but how many plays has Joe Jon called? We only have a month to get read for the bowl game, it's easier to take someone who has done it before. If they want to make Joe Jon a Co-OC for the game, that would work fine.
Why does everyone spend so much time praising Jeff Lebby and the impacts his going to Miss St will benefit that school? I want to know more about OU and how it is now impacted.
Someone tell Teddy we ARE doing the right thing with all this conference realignment. You want to make an omelet you gotta join a better conference. I don't think all these classic in-state rivalries are going to go away forever. Once the dust settles I think the ones who were left behind will eventually realize that pouting isn't going to change anything (OSU). How is it Iowa and Iowa St can play every year? What about Florida and Florida St? What about OU and Texas before Texas joined the Big 12? There's a super easy fix, but teams like OSU would rather sit and pout about it than put on their big boy pants and make the necessary changes. Once college football gets to where it's headed there is going to be a better product on the field. If I had my way the top 60 teams would break off and form their own league, and could ONLY play the teams within that league. No more 11th game of the season against Chattanooga for Alabama. That's a total embarrassment, and Alabama should be ashamed of themselves playing those FCS teams in week 11.
I heard that Joe Jon Finley buyout is a big problem. And his agent does not want to go through it again. Also that Joe Jon is the interim OC. All from the OU insider guys Brandon and Parker. OU commit Devon Mitchell tweets out last night (Sunday) he is locked in with OU! Also tall the QB commits are staying with OU. Michael Hawkins jr is the only one that might go somewhere, it depends on the new OC. One of the QB said that As long as Venables is head coach at OU he is going to play at OU does not matter who calls plays. This is From OU insider podcast Sunday night one.
Am I the only one that thinks handing it from under center, is far superior to handing it in shotgun, sideways, RPO? Personally, I just fell like RBs have better momentum getting a running start?
OSU will have to play better than they have all year in order to keep from being embarrassed by Texas in the Big Xll Championship game. I watched the OU mens basketball team beat the USC team and was very excited and encouraged for this coming season. Friday was a good day for the Sooner Nation.
You said you weren't worried about losing much in the upcoming class. I'm concerned with the Tweet from Devon Mitchell after the announcement. We need this guy.
Eventually BV is going to have to hire a good defensive coordinator if we are going to be a competitive football team year after year with a chance to win a national title. Til then OU is going to have to score 50 points a game to be competitive.
While I respect Seth’s and Matts credentials do we really want to go to the SEC with a Texas Tech offense? From a plug and play perspective Finley may be the best fit inside the program. Maybe the best bet would be Bedenbaugh/Finley as Co-OC’s. If not BV needs to get Cale on Oprah and then back in the program
I'm not a doomsdayer and I'm a huge Gentry fan but no, everybody needs to get better and I'm not sure that group being "ok" is a lock. This team, especially on the backend, struggles with play diagnosis and overall intelligence. The reason? I honestly think overcoaching is a thing and BV and company need to learn how to teach in a clear and concise manner instead of teaching intensely or going on and on verbally like we've all seen BV do.
What's the chances of getting Cale Gundy back? I just don't get it why that one incident could tank a talented recruiter, developer, and loyal coach. Couldn't that situation been handled differently...Feels like a knee jerk reaction. Cale was the ultimate example of loyalty to the team and program.
So he got canceled for repeating some else's words? Come on...how are you going to win when you create a thin skinned politically incorrect cancel culture in your locker room. You damn well not everyone is going to be held to the same accountability.@@glennwarshaw5982

The H-back is combo player that be used like a tight end to throw to or be used as a blocking back in the backfield.
I would love to see OU go to a two back system that can be used for greater deception in the running game, more so than a single back system.
Switzer OC. Wishbone
ATM reminds of that scene in Friday Night Lights when 4 guys come in and tell Coach what to do in that 1st game 🙄
So, here's the bigger question, and I asked Gabe about this before the game on Friday...... When can we expect the Teddy Lehman "Get off my lawn" line of apparel to drop? Starting with the "RPO = BAD" T-shirt. I'm all in. 😂
He needs to pick someone quickly because we’ll start losing recruits like when LR left. If anybody needs to leave it should be Ted Roof.
They need to run that Kevin Wilson type offense. I remember him letting the QB get under center, passed to the TE and passed to the RB a lot. That spread offense is very easy to stop and one dimensional
I believe under Wilson OU set an ncaa record for scoring 60+ in 5 straight games
Wilsons offense when Sam was QB was tempo on steroids
Do either of you ever think about going into coaching?
Garrett Riley being mentioned seemed like the most outrageous for obvious reasons lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
I want defensive line play good enough to at least the point that I no longer have thoughts that the now senior citizen Selmon brothers could play some snaps
We need an offensive ID....something the offense will hang their hat on no matter what the defense is that week.
Gotta have a QB coach now too
I truly feel like we can do way better than Seth Littrell and I think we need to entering the SEC.
I agree with your opinion. Either Littrell or Joe John as interim OC.
Definitely need Fb Hb. We have had some great ones like Flowers
Why does everyone spend so much time praising Jeff Lebby and the impacts his going to Miss St will benefit that school? I want to know more about OU and how it is now impacted.
What about the OC at Washington?
The last 5 out of six games, the defense has been a shit show...year two... concerning!
What headset do you all use to record with?
Gabe for OC!!!
Please no air raid in the SEC
So who do we have in the bowl game?
Am I the only one that thinks handing it from under center, is far superior to handing it in shotgun, sideways, RPO?
Personally, I just fell like RBs have better momentum getting a running start?
There never has been nor will there ever be an OC that fans weren't sour on and wanted fired. Fact!
Facts right after the 1st L or 3 and out they wanna fire everyone. Fans are stupid
I love how y'all referred to coach as VB, or Ventables. Not Brent.
OSU will have to play better than they have all year in order to keep from being embarrassed by Texas in the Big Xll Championship game. I watched the OU mens basketball team beat the USC team and was very excited and encouraged for this coming season. Friday was a good day for the Sooner Nation.
Yeah, Texas is loaded.
46:09 exactly 💯
You said you weren't worried about losing much in the upcoming class. I'm concerned with the Tweet from Devon Mitchell after the announcement. We need this guy.
He’s locked in and tweeted as much
Yup he already said he ain't going anywhere. However that can always change when Bama and them hitters start calling but that's always the case.
I don't have twitter so thank you!
Neither Cliff or Dana !! Good Lord Bad picks !! I think LR passed off QB coaching to Cliff and you saw what happened !!
Eventually BV is going to have to hire a good defensive coordinator if we are going to be a competitive football team year after year with a chance to win a national title. Til then OU is going to have to score 50 points a game to be competitive.
Roof is part of the reason for the defensive woes. He needs to coach them up. No excuses.
Before watching the video...
My first 2 calls would be to chip kelly and Dana holgersen
What candidate runs an offense that is most like or most closely resembles kyle shanahans offense? That's who we need to get
Hard to see JL leave. I hope it will not be a set back...
Willy Korn is my guy. I hope they look into this guy.
What bowl will we go to?
I feel like in the Tc u game. We got up so much at half time. And they let their foot off the gas on defense.
Bama and Georgia deal with this every year
I think corner will be ok. We have to get linemen to get pressure because corners can't cover forever. The qb has too much time.
Zero. Black players aren’t gonna want to come to OU if Cale Gundy is hired. Recruiting would be hurt big time for OU.
@@glennwarshaw5982 Glenn you black? Or you just think you can speak for black folks?
So he got canceled for repeating some else's words? Come on...how are you going to win when you create a thin skinned politically incorrect cancel culture in your locker room. You damn well not everyone is going to be held to the same accountability.@@glennwarshaw5982
