This is a technique that most beginner drummers overlook so I am glad you covered this, as someone who has been learning for a while now I decided to come back to this technique and perfect it as it is so important… thanks for the advice
That's class. Best demo of this theory/practice I have seen. Very helpful thsnkyou.
Back when I was young and becoming a professional drummer there was no youtube or internet. I was playing my first live gigs in the disco era which was sort of a drag for me with everything four on the floor etc...and sixteenth notes on the hi hat. I always assumed the drummers on these recordings were using both hands on the hi hat and I would just do an extra note with my left hand on the hi-hat when my right hand would hit the snare. I still play like that to this day and despite the great job you and others do explaining that one handed technique my arm/hand cannot sustain it for that length of time; it's like torture. I wonder if it is just genetics.
I’ve been playing for decades now, but have never spent time on hand technique. I’ve never been able to play fast hi-hat grooves, I think mainly because I grip my stick too tight and use my arms too much. I think I’ve improved naturally over the years, but I’d love to be able to play at this speed. Time is now my enemy 😂
Thanks. This is the most helpful video I’ve found yet on one handed 16ths.
I’ve been practicing along with Donna summer’s love to love you baby which has a nice accent like the way you play it. A lot of disco drummers almost seem to ghost the e and uh. I can do this technique in single or double strokes.
This is quality content. 🔟
Nice video. Working on this off and on the past year. Brutal. One of the harder things to master. If I can get it to 80 BPM with nice BD permutations I’ll be a happy man. Gettin there.
Great useful lesson!
Looks easy but definitely takes a lot of practice with it
Thank you Sir!....
excellent explanation and demonstration! Thanks
Good video and technique explanation
Thanks great video.
Good video, thank you!
Nice dude thankyou
Great.
Hello I'm stuck at 180..I can play 30 secondes and that's it.. Have you a tip to improve that or it's just practice ?
I'm still working on this. How long will it typically take to get up to 80 - 85 bpm smoothly for a 3 - 4 minute song?
depends on how much you practice
Hey there. It all depends on how much time you spend on this technique! Remember to perfect the technique at a very slow tempo start getting comfortable with smaller and shorter motions. I am actually working on a book at the moment with lots of exercises to help playing one hand sixteenth grooves msg me on my website and I can let you know when the book is finished! www.jamiesdrumschool.com
