On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

I just like to imagine him not being intimidated by a tube of explosives going mach 4 meters from his cockpit.
While he does fly well, the real thing and real life at stake is a whole different animal.
The fear factor, the non existing g-forces an such makes it a liittle bit easier. Not saying this is easy, but you cant compare it.

Sidewinder you just keep doing a good job with these videos and your flying and don't pay no attention to these guys worrying about the difference between this and real life situations. Fact is they probably don't even know what they would do.
The topography is the great equalizer here. I think over open terrain or water this becomes significantly more difficult.
It's why NATO jet drivers find places like the 'Speed Notch' in the U.K. So many poster quality photographs are taken there every year. Plenty of other areas like at Nellis where they do the same, Goose: "Watch the mountains!!!" 😜
For both jets, a Felon cannot hide over water as well.

@@heitorkovalescki6613 Still can't hide from a meteor missile over water, there's literally nowhere to go. Cant be to close to the water since that will increase your signature as well.

I love how every time GS is in a dogfight where there isn’t an extremely large difference between the capabilities of the two planes, he comes out on top. Maybe Rooster was onto something…

Fighting the Felon with anything other than an F-22 feels like an absolute boss battle
In reality, Russian pilots dont have much experience, Felon doesnt have propper engines, rockets are not that effective, radar the same. I would say, that Gripen-E Is slightly more capable than SU-57.
@@petrsafranek5725 When it comes to most russian equipment the issues are usually in the way it is operated and maintained more than the design itself. Odd how NATO Migs work just fine while russian ones fall on their own.

@@AakeTraak as I saw on YT and other there are more than 4, more or less usable, on the other side pilots still learning to fly that plane, my opinion...very capable...danger, but in fact wjen and where and when you will see real close merge of those planes, both works mostly BWR

Love these intercept simulations. I feel like they better capture what I imagine may actually happen in conflict, where literally anything can happen. Pleasantly surprised by the underdog win here.

I think modded missiles have performance bugs since they're made by amateur modders who don't have access to the actual DCS SDK.

Because it is not really designed "to win dogfights". If it was it would have a lot more umph and twin engines. But being small, it still holds its own. It should be the perfect underdog for GS?
I thought that’s the whole purpose for it having a delta wing to be a better dog fighter. It’s made to be cheep and maneuverable.

This is pretty much a setup I suggested like a year ago, so thanks for that - seeing if the persistent suppression of the Meteor was worth a fighter generation. I'm not surprised to see the answer in this case is "lol no, I should have been dead twice", but I think the setup could remain interesting in other matches and scenarios.
The real strength of the Grippen is in squad formation not really a standalone mission. Nonetheless great flying.
I can just imagine some virtual bean counter grilling the virtual airbase commander over the virtual misfiring of a million dollar meteor

I'd love to rewatch this combat video for a destress. I suggest for the 71st time that you should either repeat with these jets, but in a dogfight setting, or do the dogfights between the MiG-29/Su-27 vs Su-57 Felon to compare pilot skills with different tech capabilities as well. Such a breathtaking and epic gameplay you posted so far before, GS. Aim High and Soar High!

I'm really not the patriotic type but whenever I see Swedish fighter jets (even simulated) I actually tense up a bit (that second hypersonic missile) and feel a sense of pride when the Gripen gives a good showing. We are a country of 10M people with a rich history in the fighter jet space and it's just cool that we are still relevant in this day and age.
Having had backstage access to most of the Swedish airforce fleet in my youth has also made me connect more personally with its performance.
TERMA spent 10billion on developing the Gripen or helping with it but pulled out due to Swedish corruption. Look up who Terma is and where they are from, cousin.
Gripen was actually a joint venture, not just Swedish.
@@shades2.183 I'm very aware that it's not solely Swedish of course. But as with other brands it has a very Swedish profile. Considering the time the original Gripen was ordered and developed I'm not surprised some dodgy stuff went on. But I mean the engine is American, the armament is Nato standard. It's very much not solely Swedish and we have had considerable help in development. Still, Saab Aerospace is the contractor and with that comes at least some national pride for me personally. I also had family members in the Swedish airforce back when they were flying SK60.

Give the people what they want and do Battle of the Canards: A battle royale between (at a minimum) the JAS39 Gripen, SU33 Flanker-D, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Dassault Rafale. May the best 'nard win.
Su-33 is a bit too old for them.
Su-30SM/SM2 on the other hand will be a proper gen 4++ adversary, since they both have canards, great avionics and vector thrust.

Lol yeah, i don’t understand why people seem to think Russian hardware is that good, because it isn’t. They have made 11 SU57 in total, where Sweden have several hundreds of 39 Gripen.
@@johanbtheman well, each SU-57 is quite good, but pilots who fly those arent. Here, in the video we can see how that is as important as a jet capabilities.
Very low total number of su-57's built also limits it's capabilities (US also has somehow small amount of F-22 and very small amount of B2 Spirit planes).

I would love to see a Dogfight only video between the Gripen and a 5th Gen fighter like the F-22 or SU-57, I can only imagine the Gripen’s performance and want to see if it will hold with a 5th Gen.
I always underestimate those European fighters, but when GS came into the merge with the felon, he was defensive for most of the fight. Felon is just built to well for dogfights.

There is no advantage in “5th generation” when it comes to a dogfight.
Obviously the canards gave you those few extra degrees to dodge those missiles.
