Rise of the Ronin - Perfecting Nioh Style

  • I have been learning a lot of mechanics for past weeks, and I can confirm that Nioh style is the hardest to master with intensive inputs. Ranging from violent gale cancel to one of the fastest "counterspark" vs enemy combo, I have been exploring many possible ways to take advantage of Nioh style by mixing it with other combat styles during combat and understanding how Nioh mechanics work. There are definitely more things to learn as I have been constantly discovering new limits of what Nioh style is capable of. I should be working on a Nioh style tech guide eventually whenever I finish exploring it.

    For this segment, I have tried with 4 styles + Nioh (which brings in total 7 stances) to see how intensive it is to manage all combat styles at once while trying to be comfortable with extensive inputs and various methods of weapon/style switch. During my sparring sessions, it was personally overwhelming when trying to keep in mind with weapon slots and Nioh stance that we are in (Low/Mid/High). I tend to mix with different combat styles by accident so I have to proactively use my analog sticks to switch into the right combat styles while switching weapons. It was also hard to properly showcase this segment since the fight last 2 mins at most. having only 2 min didnt give me enough time to show every combat styles and possibilities even with my lowest weapon lvl so I divided into different fights segment with different setups.
    1:55, 3:16, 4:30- three segments
    Here I went with 2 combat styles and Nioh style (in both weapon slots) so that I can heavily focus on Nioh stances/mechanics and showcase them. It was also easier for me to remember and follow my combat styles properly without mixing up with different combat styles. It is still intense to manage Nioh style with stance switch and violent gale/flash attack cancel, giving a brand new playstyle, such as bringing the defense of counterspark into offence, that creates a different level of mastery in Nioh combat.

    nice clip. I personally was a little bit disappointed with TN choices for the Nioh combat style, that game had so much cool moves and they decided to go forthe ones I personally didn't like that much, besides a couple of them. Also the iaio technique feels underwhelming compared to Nioh's. This game has a great potential but some decisions have killed it for me, at least for now, hopefully they give us a DLC and some corrections in the future for it to fully unleash its power

      That sounds more like a YOU problem. Ronins combat is intended to be way different than nioh. Which is to be simplified. Of course they're gonna remove some things. Also dont expect DLC since previously TN would tell you their games have DLC with day one season pass. This game didnt sell too well for it to warrant an expansion.

    Love the violent gales in between parries.
    Also how you keep your damage so low? I'm using a lvl 1 weapon with 70 attack power and still doing tons of damage on midnight

      Not sure exactly, I only have 4 pcs Prodigious dragon set to keep combat style in advantage, and my build is not optimized.

    How are all of your stances positive vs him? Is this some quirk to his fight only or is there something new I haven't heard about? Great stuff as usual tho

      Its a new set called Prodigious dragon from recent patch (change all combat styles to advantage when performing violent gales for a while). This set does take some gear spot though.

      @@LasttoLoad Oh nice, that sounds really cool and an interesting way to encourage VG though i'd rather it be an innate mechanic rather than a set bonus

    You know I love your game play, but if I wanted to perfect Nioh style, I'd play Nioh. :D The ki system is still garbage in this game.

      Yea, it is still a nerfed version of Nioh combat style with limited agency. Would love to see the good Ronin mechanics applied in Nioh such as the parry game and extra skill slots (they even have heaven flash allowed to ki pulse!).
