If you were starting from scratch (and had to buy one piece at a time) what would you get and in what order?
My personal situation? Rouge Fatboy sled, Wright Amp barbell and bumper set, Rouge T-1 yoke with safeties I also bought rings at this point to this point this was my biggest at once purchase, I chose the Wright basic bench for shipping reasons it's a Rouge clone made in Alabama. I did all this one or two paychecks at a time on a construction workers pay. I'd do it exactly the same if I could do it again. I've since bought a Rouge MG-24 that's worth mentioning because as a lanky guy with a crappy bench and plateaued OHP it was an absolute godsend. In the market for an SSB if yall got recommendations.
Reverse hyper. I had back problems my hole life even a operation in my 20s. I bought a Reverse hyper 5 years ago and haven't had ANY pain since. Worth the $
I would go minimalist at this point. A few sandbags, gymnastic ring set, weight vest, and kyubells.
We are pretty much agreed in the team on this🙂:
1. Pull-up bar
2. Gym rings
3. Exercise Mat
Bands
Barbell
Barbell Weights
Power Rack
Reloadable dumbbells
Dumbbell weight plates
Bench
Power rack attachable cable system
EZ Bar (put on dumbbells weight plates)
Dip attachment
Rings
Rings. Rings. Rings. It’s the piece I recommend anyone considering a home gym. It may be a bit intimidating, and I get that. But my $30 pair has lasted me 15 years and I’m only now looking to replace them. Definitely got my money out of them and have used them in every variation of my home gym. Hand down, would be my first purchase for the gym if I started all over.
Yes! Couldn't have said it better!
I bought the rings first... Whats next?
A set of powerblock adjustable dumbbells was my very first home gym purchase and probably the best investment I made. It’s been 10 years and I still use it everyday. Then came the bench, squat stand, barbell and Olympic weight set. Once I upgraded to a full rack, I started getting other stuff.
Exact same equipment in the exact same order. Had powerblocks for around same amount of time as well.
I started with a pair of dumbbells, a set of bands, and an adjustable bench. I wouldn't change the order if I had to start fresh.
Seems like a logical start and way to test it out.
Started with a pair of loadable dumbbells with resistance bands. Would love to see a build of yours for a non-rack set up for people with smaller spaces. Something that could be put away in a closet or not taking up too much floor space. A budget and all out one would be great
If I had to choose one thing first, and it was necessary to continue working out while I built a home gym, I'd probably go with dumbbells. Ideally, I'd save up enough to start with a few items like a rack, bench, barbell, and some plates (that's how I started) but a pair of adjustable dumbbells could go a long way.
Love the content, man! The gym setup is awesome!
I think if you know you're into it a set of DBs (or probably more logically, adjustables) is a great start.
Flooring, adjustable dumbells, barbell, plates, rack, bench. IMO if you do it in this order you can start with bodyweight movements and then add a lot of various exercises as you go...and this is coming from someone who trains in a powerbuilding style.
Good list for sure. I probably should've tried to justify DBs earlier but it is what it is.
@@GlucksGym the nice part of the Powerblock Elites is you can buy the expansion packs as you get stronger and space the expense out.
@@joecowan3719 yep! It's a good design in that regard
nice video. enjoyed the honesy and logic behind your recommendations.
When do I buy a shake weight?
Should probably be your first investment.
Bands are great for knowledgeble folks with a rack, problem is, newbies typically aren’t knowledgeable and don’t have a rack. So many newbie cringe band vids out there!
Powerblocks are somehow still underrated. Can do so much with zero footprint + low entry point + good resale value + easy to move/travel = perfect starting point. The most criticized aspect of PBs, the “cage,” are arguably an advantage for someone starting out with nothing - grab the back of the cage for goblet squats, and kettlebell swings, or other kettlebell type movements.
Awesome watch! Thank you
I could have used this video 3 years ago! Another great video. Thanks
Hahaha, sorry
Entertaining and informative, as always. Thanks for the content!
Thanks for the support!
Thanks for your reviews Gluck! I’ve been telling my buddies about your channel for the laughs and the general slavering over glorious equipment. Just built my first home gym with the SML-2 rack,Ohio power bar, mil spec bumpers and rep 3100 bench. Starting with the basics and hopefully my wife will join in so I can justify more gear haha!
That's a damn good "basics" start. Get that wife involved so you can really spend 😂 thank you so much for the support!
I'm watching you, Wazowski. Always watching. 👀
Side note... We agree the Economy bar is a GOOD bar. But good things can be improved upon. 😉
Hard to argue with how good it is for the money.
Also Wynie and I read that comment in her voice 😂
Just saw your interview with Garage Gym Radio. All the work you put in really shows. You guys put out solid content.
Ohhh that was awhile ago! Thanks! Love to hear that.
Iron Master dumbbells with the 120lb adder kit along with a bench were my start down the home gym journey years ago. They're rock solid, fairly easy to change (though not as quick as Powerblocks), and you can do most exercises. I love rings and bands are really useful but I don't regret starting with these. As part of my home gym ebb and flow (I know blasphemy, but at one point I had 20+ commercial selectorized machines, in addition to two power racks and countless other staples), I ended up with a full set of vintage York roundhead dumbbells on Hammer Strength racks. After years, I actually decided to go back to the Iron Master set along with Powerblocks to minimize footprint. While I loved the York's, I honestly can't say I miss them with this setup. Cheers
Great video and highly informative!
Thank you! Appreciate it
Good stuff, informative video. My order was 1 - peloton 2- powerblock 3- rack 4- bar and plates
I’ve had equipment my whole life (I’m 61). I already had everything that I have now for the most part but after getting bit by the upgrade bug I bought in this order. Rep Fitness stainless steel deep knurl bar, Rep Fitness equalizer change plates, PR 4000 rack, 5 pairs of Rep Fitness 45lb urethane coated equalizer plates, lat/low row attachment for the rack, Rep Fitness AB5200, Pepin dumbbell handles, Titan back extension and gun rack. So my upgrade is complete for now! Lol
Adjustable dumbbells (or just a pair or two to start), adjustable bench, barbell+plates+rack (they can't do much by themselves), bands, cardio stuff, a 2nd bar for convenience, cable machine of some sort and maybe specialty equipment like a leg extension or ghd, then specialty bars, etc... and etc... and etc... as young adult I started with dumbbells, pull up bar and a jump rope. You can do so much with just that.
This is extremely helpful!
Glad to hear it!
I started with adjustable dumbbells, adjustable bench, door mounted pull-up bar, and some bands. Budget. Small space requirements. Great way to start.
Now look at you, the king of green and you were 1 of the 5 channels shown from our followers 😀
@@GlucksGym Honestly, what else could I ask for?

Great video. I also am just about to unveil my new home gym to the world in the next couple of weeks. I just bought a new house WAY out in the country but it came with a private airplane hanger in the back; seemed like the perfect place to build "coyote ranch gym." Thanks for all you content; I really enjoy your quick one liners too
What the! That sounds amazing! Let us know when your drop that reveal! And thank you!
This video is great. How is it possible I just discovered it?!, Also I realized I was not subscribed yet.... how was that also possible?... great content. Thanks!
You've fixed your mistakes 😂 thank you!
great great video thank you for this video. love the jokes and the content . keep up the great work .
This guy is too nice 😊
I started off with a cheap Barbell a cheap adjustable bench 255lbs of iron weight, and a cheap adjustable squat stand all off facebook market place. This was great for awhile and covered most of the movements I wanted to do think most people would do well to start there. To be fair I also bought at the same time a set a dumbells(5-50) and rack for them, a cheap plate tree, and an Olympic easy curl bar at the same time from the same person. All for the price of thr dumbells new. Then shortly after bought a doorway pullup bar. But I wouldn't recommend all of that for most people unless you find a deal.
Now I have expanded a ton. And since my job is outside sales and I drive a truck I've been filling my garage with everything from free road finds to yard sale stuff. I've even developed a hobby of cutting up and welding old stuff to make something new and unique for my gym. It's been alot of fun.
The Gungnir adjustable dumbbell is really the only one that anyone should consider for a home gym. Nothing comes close.
That price tho 🤔
@@BrandonSchwartz1 - yea but considering Gluck spent $4k on his fixed dumbell set, it pretty much pales in comparison. Plus its a one time purchase for life.
4 stall mats if lifting in a garage or basement. They are a pain in the ass to move later. Second piece is Iron Master Dumbbells, third is a good adjustable bench.
Good list. I left the flooring off to make the video a little more exciting but it should really be first.
TSC horse stall mats, barbell/bumper plate combo, bench, rack, change plates, foam plyo box, chained belt (for hanging plates). That was my order. As per Gluck, I think rings are next, but they have had stock issues lately.
Reps rings seem to be out a decent amount. I actually liked the wood on Titan's better but the non labeled straps I don't love.
I left the mats off the list though they really should be first, they're just not exciting on video 😂
You mentioned powerblock elites and I have a love-hate relationship with mine. I think they strike a nice balance for an adjustable DB when it comes to quick weight changes and durability, but if I had the space and budget for a 5-100 lbs fixed set, I'd definitely go that route
Yep, I'm with you!
If your garage has concrete (or similar) wall it's really cheap to do all kinds wall mounted DIY stuff from raw RHS/L/flat iron.
I had DIY wide pull up bar, dipping rack and squat rack made from raw iron bought from my local hardware store and they all cost less than 100$ in total. Sturdy gym equipment can be really expensive, DIY is worth considering if you have some basic tools and craftsmanship.
And one thing absolutely necessary in any home gym are big speakers and decent amplifier. Blast that heavy metal and lift, no excuses! xDD
bench, adjustable dumbbells, and resistant bands. can accomplish a lot with just that.
Hey broski! have you pulled the trigger on the ares? i just did! loving all your vidoes man keep up the great worK!
Yep. We'll be doing a review 😊
@@GlucksGym sick! same here! Can't wait!
Do you prefer the handles on the REP to the Rogue dumbbells?
Great breakdown y’all! I would say dumbbells, bench, barbell, plates then rack in that order if I was recommending. How I actually did it was rack, bench, bar, plates and dumbbells then throw 2 machines and 5 more bars in wherever your imagination chooses😅
hahah the truth came out in the end
Adjustable DBs, adjustable bench, jump rope, barbell, Stall mats, Olympic weights, squat rack with safeties
Maybe I should've put the damn DBs earlier 😢
@@GlucksGym yeah you really failed us all lol. Seriously though, adjustable DBs should be the standard go to starter if you’re serious. If you outgrow 90lb DBs (which could last a long time with single leg/arm movements) then you can always get a barbell and weights.
Agree small items ad so much versatility (for the price) and are also a great option if you don't know if home gyms are "your thing". IF you drink the home gym coolaid, then 100% GO power RACK. It'll be the flagship piece, cornerstone, and a great way to build out from there.
They also end up being what keeps things interesting down the road.
Please a video on order of which specialty bars you'd get!
Someone else mentioned something similar. Might be a good idea!
I went powerblocks and adjustable bench only for a while. Then squat rack with barbell and iron, then added some bumpers. And after that…it just snowballs!
It really does 😂
Great video!
Gluck I enjoy your content alot more without everything being a cheap innuendo, but you do you. I don't know if a GHR fits in your workout plan , but if so! Would you consider doing a review on the new Titan Fitness GHR. I believe it a original design, I've never seen anything quite like it before.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
It reminds me some of Sorinex's mobility maker bench. I wonder if there's some inspiration coming from there. I wish Titan made the center telescope, would've added some functionality
@@GlucksGym Yes, with some simple adjustments the user could do nordic curls as well as GHRs. It looks pretty nice still I think, but more functionality in a garage gym is always appreciated.
Keep up the good work
Gluck, what dumbbell rack do you have?
Please keep up the honest reviews. If the companies (titan) can’t handle honest reviews about their product than screw them. That’s why their equipment won’t get better.
I stopped watching coop because he major sold out and became a company man.
No worries there it's just who I am. People are spending a lot of money, we should be honest and review things not sell them.
@@GlucksGym I really appreciate the honest reviews! Oh and the teenage pun humor!
We prefer honest reviews on our products, otherwise we would not be improving our products based on your feedback and ultimately you would choose other brands over us. Which is why we appreciate guys like Gluck. I also think we can confidently say that we've drastically improved the overall quality of our products over the past few years and we will continue to do so on our entire product line. All to say... keep the feedback coming and @scoooby J if you have any feedback, we are all ears!
@@betitanfit first I have to say good for you and your company for taking the time and effort to reply. It shows a lot of dedication.
As for choosing your company…the majority of my home gym is titan products (X3, safety straps, spotter arms, mono lift, deadlift jack, barbell holder). I do like your products and have seen HUGE improvements made from the first product I purchased (X3) in 2018.
My biggest grievance was that companies would strong arm influencers to make only positive review videos. I have made many criticisms to other companies, especially rogue, on other channels for how they try to bully influencers into only positive reviews.
You should do a short of disassembling the titan economy bar and measure the wiggle in it. I haven't seen anyone else do it. And post more discount codes, while making it sound very urgent so I can convince my wife to let me buy stuff.
I started off small, just a bench and a few DBs. I was working out upstairs in my parents house, added a pull-up bar and some bands and had great progress. Now…..it’s a small commercial facility and it’s nowhere near budget friendly. Anyways, rubber flooring, adjustable bench, adjustable dumbbells, functional trainer, TRX or Rings and then barbell , plates and wall mounted squat rack.
In this order.
Pull-up bar
Barbell
Plates
Rack(w spotter arms/pins Dont Die!)
Bench
Plywood/mat (platform)
Plate tree
More plates (you're stronger by now)
Rogue echo bike (time to lean out)
Captains of crush grip trainers
Where did you get those double horizontal change plate holders? Those are awesome
Those are from Sorinex. They're pricey but I wanted the double with urethane. There are others like Stray Dog that make a triple and the list goes on
@@GlucksGym Great, thanks! Only one I can find for 5/8” holes is through stray dog strength
I started out with a used eliptical total gym and roman chair. both used and all in it was under $500. added some bands and 3 or 4 kettles bells along the way I was at $600 -700 all in. Looking back, I wish I had gone straight to the Power Rack with lat pull that I have now. Its was under $600 and I have received much better results from it. Now if you add in the flooring, weights, bar, adjustable bench all the attachments, i am still under $2000 all in. THe roman chair is gone and so is the total gym but i still use the kettlebells at least once a week.
Next up: Adjustable dumbbells.
I have the Titan Bar from the black Friday 2021 sale it was $80
I started with Iron Master adjustable dumbbells mainly due to not having room for a barbell yet.
What do you think of them? I'm thinking about buying some too.
@@scraby5778 I love them. Really well made and no plastic parts. I only have room for 5-50 lb dumbbell pairs, so my Iron Masters take care of 50+ weights. I have had them for 3 to 4 years.
My order was floor mats, rogue boneyard bar, on sale Rep Fitness bumper plates, on sale Titan squat stand. I'm not thay cool to have a garage, but I got a basement with a short ceiling. I purchased everything over 3 months.
Besides the basement that's a damn good list. Also basements are pretty cool just don't let Brandon see that comment.
@@GlucksGym come on down to the land down under. #teambasement
Space and $ limitations...
1) dumbbells used from craigslist
2) cheap flat weider bench from Walmart
3) olympic curl bar from Dicks Sporting
4) Some small plates from Dicks Sporting
5) Set of rings are next
No room for Olympic bar or a rack at the moment. So I'll just go to larger dumbbells and plates eventually.
How did your York Legacy plates hold up? Do you recommend them?
They have plate snack stickers on them now because the coating chips off easy. Besides that they're pretty accurate.
The Ohio Power Bar has been in the boneyard all this week for the various coatings option. It's been tempting but I'm not sure I want to gamble on which coating I'd get.
I had a pretty good experience with Titan earlier today. Was shipped 2 pairs of 10lb bumpers mislabeled as 25s and they told me to keep them and refunded the order after seeing a picture of the mixed up items. Sure I still need 25lb plates, but their customer service was great.
I check a few times a week and have had little luck besides "various coatings" 😢
🙌
Oh man, you got the Mutant Metals Dip Attachment? I have one on order. Hope it's worth it, but since I'm currently using sawhorses, anything's an improvement
Hahaha. It's really nice and we like it but it's not cheap! Well my version wasn't 😂😭
I see that mutant metals dip attachment 👀
Yep 😁 it's nice!
I have to post a gym tour on Instagram or UA-cam... I have 20ish bars (mostly specialty)... Have a rower, assault runner, skierg, assault bike, commercial cross crawl versaclimber, marpo endless rope, sissy squat, GHD, commercial functional trainer, and odds and ends between
Oh no I've gotta take this guy out! New competition 😂

I started out on the used market with a body solid power rack, 2 barbells, 300Lbs of plates, a cheap adjustable bench with leg attachment, and a plate loaded lat pull down and low pulley. I got all that for $450. That was back in 2007 and since I won't admit I now have a problem we won't discuss my current gym. 😜
hahaha the first step is acceptance?
Have you done a full review of the Titan Economy bar? I hear about about it but I've never seen an in depth discussion and comparison to other bars
I have not. Debated it but there's so much new stuff I can't keep up with. As a budget bar imo it's much better than the price and probably keeps that title until just under $200
@@GlucksGym Give the people what they want
Where did that monster rack come from? And please get the Rep Ares, I'm gonna need an opinion on it!
You haven't been watching?! It's been there a bit. And yes, we have the Ares on order and if it works out it should be a heck of a build because we're changing things up with it.
@@GlucksGym Thanks for the reply! That's exciting to hear. I love the content, you should get back on your UA-cam shorts game! Stay corny my friend.
I know you have done plenty of adjustable bench reviews, but never saw the Rep AB-3000 in your review, which seems to me to be the best budget "do-it-all" bench on the market. As a result, I would love to see your review on it if you ever get it.
To be honest you'll probably never see me review it at least on its current iteration. . It'll be updated at some point and I'll revise the new version whenever that may be.
@@GlucksGym I like its design and wish more of their AB series benches had the decline option. I think it is their only one that does that at ground level.
@@GlucksGym keep the great videos coming.
Would you be able to do ring work off a power rack?
Some people do but I've never spent much time on it because of my space. Just have to be conscientious of height.
I’m Trying to remember, did you review/get the GETRXD bench? I remember Brandon saying that he felt it had a firmness somewhere between the rep bench and the Rogue bench. If so, that seems like it would be a darn good bench, especially being able to get the Dumbbell spotter arms on it.
I haven't reviewed it though it's on the list. I just need to do the sled before they kill me first 😂😢

I really didn't say anything negative about power blocks just things I don't love about adjustables. If I didn't like them they wouldn't have made the video.
Almost put sandbags in my under $100 video but for various reasons they didn't make it in.
Let's get you to 20k subscribers
Lets gooooo!
I'd get bar, plates, rack and a flat bench. Honestly don't use much other than that. I got 15 different bars and I 99% of the time I use a powerbar & a flat bench, I've got a adjustable bench, but used it like 3 times...
Hahaha we all have things we don't use. I swear I use all my bars 😬 But in reality we use a lot of it because there's always 4 or 5 of us working out. Then again, my situation is far from normal.
@@GlucksGym some of the bars i have are really expensive if you calculate cost pr use.
Amen to a single barbell. You watch enough videos and get convinced you need all sorts of variations in bars, when your standard barbell will last a lifetime in a home gym setting. I think you can only justify speciality barbells if a) you lift really heavy and actually need speciality equipment, b) are injured and lack ROM (and often times people aren't injured, they just haven't worked on their flexibility enough), c) you're riiiich biaaatch
hahaha to c but they are nice for variety as well so let's add some d in there....
@@GlucksGym innuendo in the comments section, you just can't help yourself can you?
Hey you can’t just drop a Mutant Metals UDA cameo in here like that and not post a full review? I just ordered the exact one you have shown… we have similar issues apparently 😂 how do you like it??
It's great! I've been saving up for the monos so we can do another of our Small American Businesses videos but haven't gotten that far.
Just one piece to start, harnessing all my hindsight, towards the ultimate do-over?
Ok, I need to start with the goal, and reverse engineer the ideal data inputs to get there.
1) Goal = To like what I see in the mirror. Bonus points for health and fitness confidence.
2) What do I want to see first? - My high school abs.
3) Let's see - Starting from zero purposeful exercise, I tried +1 sit-up every morning for an entire year and what did that get me? Knowledge every day that year what number day of the year it was, a stronger stomach, and no 6-pack. Ok, I quit after Thanksgiving but still, let's just skip step 3.
4) Hey, here's a workout program that promises to melt fat to reveal abs.. Ok, i'll follow that and skip the part of eating healthier. Damn, that was a brutal summer, only needed a few dumbbells, a chair, some garage space, effort, and it worked, Who knew my stick frame actually had 10 pounds to lose and there's my abs? Too bad I tapped my neck with a CAP iron dumbbell once too often, pinched a nerve, and now can't look behind me without turning around. Several months later of zero stress, neck is ok again, shooting pain down arm is gone, but now my abs are gone, too. Ok, what did step 4 teach me? Crank up metabolism via intense low-weight cardio / fat-burning sessions - and do that safely else risk soon finding yourself back to square one or worse.
5) What else achieves the ab-revealing / cardio upsides of step 4, with much less risk, and extra bonus easy on the knees? The Concept 2 Model D
6) A year later. Give me that SkiErg, too.
7) Another year later - my cardio is tapped out - the only way I can improve is to add power. To add power, I need more muscle in my posterior chain. To achieve that, I need to start squatting and add protein to my diet. Carbs are so much easier to acquire, prepare, and afford compared to vegetables and good protein. And tastier, too. I'll start with just the squats. Let me check the Internet/UA-cams for how to get started with that.
8) Hey, isn't that something? I considered health and fitness secondary nice to haves vs primary goal of 6-pack abs. Turns out the cardio-fitness part was a prerequisite, plus it's the first rule of ZombielLand survival, and now global lockdowns due to government reaction to da virus makes everything related to home-gyms either a piece of junk, an arm and a leg, or out of stock.
Ok, after all that ramble, what single piece of equipment would I start with in 2022 for home gym from scratch? Probably the Bells of Steel / Fringe Raptor knockoff you beat Coop to the punch on reviewing 3 months ago.
Just reviewed by Coop!? What about this guy who reviewed it well before that?! Oh man you're in hot water now. I read that entire comment and that's how you end it?! 💔😭
@@GlucksGym . Yeah, that guy's something else. I've updated my initial comment to a more deserved ending.
Alternatively, had I zero Ergs already, I would go back to January, during Fringe's 20% off moving sale, and pick up the Raptor for $624.
Please never stop being critical lol. It's the #1 reason I watch these videos haha.
I'd probably stop watching when/if you become all positive and butt licking to these companies.
I own powerblocks and ironmasters. I can talk shit about both companies as well as praise them. A good balance of cons and pros is what we love to watch because it's not like Transparency is something big companies strive for.
There's coup from garagegymreviews and basement brandon. Buuuuuuuuut yeaaa, they're not that great at listing the cons.
No worries I'm not changing 😂 This stuff is expensive and people should know both sides. Hopefully it pays off.
People sleep on sandbags for the cost, barbell, mats and rack.
