    On the west coast we call these sand dabs. I was hooking up with these using gulp sand worms. I was using new penny color. Also the gulp red worms. Those chartreuse mullets were good for halibuts near the san pablo marina and pigeon point, CA. Thx for posting, great rig bro.

    Thank for the video. I needed a new rig to try out. I use the belly of the fluke (the longer the better) instead of squid and it works wonders.

    I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing the rig when it's underwater. If you want to keep the offering (gulp and spearing) straight up and down so that the mullet looks like it's swimming (as it states in the video) , how does this happen if the weight is above the hook? The weight is going to hit the bottom and the hooks are going to drag behind along the bottom. Bought 2 of these rigs to use this weekend and would like to understand your technique.

      if there's fish around, you will catch them on this rig and as I've explained previously, you can fish it several different ways. Good luck, I use it every time when I go for Fluke, I've done well with it and so have many others. Yes, the weight hits the bottom but there's enuff of a "leader" to let the bait do what its supposed to.

    Earl, when you drift with the current with this rig, will it stay on or near the bottom without any additional weight or would I have to add weight to it to keep it just off the bottom?

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  9 років тому

      Bill53 In the vid, you will see there's a clip where you attach the weight to get it to the bottom. The amount of weight you need to get it to the bottom will vary depending on the conditions you are fishing in. Sometimes you need 2 or 3 ounces to get to the bottom, sometimes more, sometimes less. The clip is part of the 557 rig. It is part of every 557 rig for you to attach your weight to. In a very small space, you have alot of attractants including the chemical attractant from the gulp, the bait you add on the hook, the silver spoon of the 557, the motion of the gulp tail and the movement of the bait as you are drifting for the fish. Fluke love to chase bait. So, in general, anything that moves is gonna entice them to chase. Having all these extra attractants of this rig, in my opinion, increases your chances of a strike. I really so have an IGFA certified all tackle world record on this rig and really have caught every flatty I've caught in the last 2 years on this rig. I've caught from the shore and from boats with it. Folks who haven't tried it can say whatever they want to say, I HAVE tried it, it works for me. Again, Fluke LOVE to chase bait, that is a no-brainer and this rig has a whole bunch going on to further entice them.

      Earl Kayoss i'm trying to drop a photo of my world record certification from IGFA in here but i don't see any way available to do it. If anyone knows of a way, lemme know. There's a photo of it in this listing. www.ebay.com/itm/FIN-STRIKE-557-FLUKE-SUMMER-FLOUNDER-KAYOSS-RIG-/231519326916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35e7a092c4

    I tried this last two times out, it works, but seemed that using a simple Kahle 3/0 with a squid strip out performed it. I'm sure some days this would be the superior rig, just have to answer what they want, and be on top of em.

      it would work. or... you can use a squid strip.

      no harm in trying. minimally, the Gulp has the chemical attractant.

    New Jersey guy here..... I have a question, do you want to keep the rig/weight straight up and down from the boat or give the rig extra line while drifting? Nice video too, looking forward to trying this because bucktails don't always do the trick

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  9 років тому +1

      Nick B a little extra line would be the way to go. This rig works because it has alot going on in a small amount of space. Butyou can jig straight up and down with it is well in still water.

      Jackson Walker that should work as well... minnows, shiners, squid strips work...

    what do you recommend, for surf casting with this rig,,weights etc..where can they be purchased...looks pretty neat no crazy drop loop rigs

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  9 років тому +1

      John Toth i've caught alot of Fluke surfcasting with this rig. The weight you add depends on the conditions where you're casting. By me, I wind up using anywhere from 2 to 4 oz.'s depending and... the rig comes set up with the clasp for the sinker.

      the weight u need will always depend on conditions... like depth of water, strength of current, etc. Normally, I'm using between 2 and 4 ounces. But, depends on conditions really. 516.785.3223. Tell them u saw it on youtube, they will ship to you.

    Hey Earl, tell me if this is worth trying or just hurting my chances. I use bucktails as my weights. I figure the more hooks the merrier. Instead of just using a weight. I'm going to try your rig tomorrow.

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  7 років тому

      I dunno. Never tried it. I could picture a teaser above the rig but... in any event... this species like to chase things and the rig works as shown . It never hurts to try so if you wanna try your bucktail. i see no harm in it. You're gonna have alot going on down there, that's for sure. Good luck, lemme know how it goes even though I can't picture it all too well. - ek.

    Is there a website where I can order this rig?? And also how can I add a sinker to it if I fish off a pier

  • @trevorhorn5783
    @trevorhorn5783 9 років тому

    Hey Earl Kayoss. I just brought the kayoss rig...can u use the kayoss rig as a teaser. And use a bucktail as a weight to touch bottom?

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  9 років тому +1

      Trevor Horn I've never tried it and I guess it wont hurt to try. If it works, great. If not, the rig works rather well as i explained it in the video. The main thing is... to have MOVEMENT with the rig. Drifting, cast + retrieve, jig it up and down if there is no current, etc.... is best... the movement of the rig/lure is critical. You don't want it just sitting still if at all possible but... i have caught fish with it when it is sitting still. Optimal though is.... MAKE IT MOVE, they like to chase it.

  • @augustin09s
    @augustin09s 9 років тому

    Are they live minnows or fake ones I was wondering what they were

    • @over700songs
      @over700songs  9 років тому +1

      augustin09s they are real. they are not minnows, they are called "spearing' and they are about the #1 Fluke bait here in NY. Whatever you are using to catch Fluke in NY, there's probably spearing involved 85% of the time. They are sold in frozen pkgs. They thaw out. The spearing in the video are thawed. Most times. folks will feed the hook thru the eye of the spearing and back thru the body. I usually do that, in this vid i just ran the hook thru the eye. Spearing is amazing Fluke bait so... added to the other attractants on the Kayoss rig... there's alot of attractants in quite a small space on this rig.

    do u need to put a weight on this to cast it far?

    • @over700songs

      yes and the rig is made to accommodate the weight, you just slide it on to the rig. you will see the clip for it.
