Even the light frame and ceilings are designed to fit the vintage theme. The attention to detail is so on point. I've also been to Nara and too scared to buy the deer cookies in fear of them chasing me hahha
The train looks really lovely, I love the space for wheelchairs. The elegance of the dear crossing the street without a care in the world was a great sight. When you arrived on the train back to Kyoto I said to myself: he is going to buy that pudding straight away, I wasn't wrong 😂
A very nice day trip. The train is beautiful. The inside is definitely unique. Loved the looks of the pudding and the mandarin orange juice. I would have definitely kept the pudding container. Could have used it for homemade jam, plus the cap was adorable. Never saw mandarin orange before. It looked good and refreshing. So glad I took this trip with you today. Will definitely see you in the next one. Take care, stay safe. 😊
Hey I think Amtrack has some pretty nice train cars, particularly the newer observation lounges. As a matter of fact the last time I took a ride on the train there was barely any blood on my seat.
@@erikawanner7355 I lived in Japan for four years (in the late 80s). It is such an amazing country in so many regards. Loved every day I was fortunate enough to live there. ❤️
Hello! I've really been enjoying your videos. I'm learning Japanese (at a snail's pace) right now and I've got maybe 50-100 kanji right now, but it's very informative to watch these videos you make! I absolutely love the format without talking as it makes it a very relaxing experience and allows me to focus mostly on reading different signage around you. I've even LEARNED a few kanji by seeing them several times throughout different videos! Thanks a lot for posting from Washington USA
The train is so nice and fresh-looking and such a great price! I also can't believe how inexpensive your lunch was and it looked delicious. What a great little day trip!
I love that the seats are sold in pairs. This way there is no danger of a stranger sitting in front of you. This is a great sign of respect for the natural space and privacy that human beings need. Unfortunately this is constantly overridden in most societies/cultures, and it creates anxiety. Thank you for the video , arigato gosaimas 😊
Bellissimo! Beautiful! A warm and welcoming comfort. Natural and not with the cold modern forcings. I really liked the architecture of the Nara Prefecture, built in modern Japanese which reminds me of Italian Rationalism. The topic of food always leaves me amazed, it is of extraordinary variety. When I come to Japan, I think I will spend a lot of time eating!
I know you are used to it but what is really amazing is that the mark on the floor is EXACTLY placed to match the wagon number. Look from 13:01. Car #4. Reflex of the floor mark: #4. This never happens here! (we're lucky to have a rough idea of where the train cars will stop. This precision is out of this world 😁
This is the first video I have seen that showed wheelchair accessibility for travelers. My sons (who have traveled often to Japan) told me that I could never visit Japan because the country cannot accommodate wheelchair bound. I would like to see more of how Japan accommodates people such as myself. It is a dream of mine to visit.
It's not rare to see people on wheelchair getting on and off the train by themselves in the urban areas. You can ask the staff for assistance and they will set up a ramp for you free of charge with no reservation required. They will also help you get off at your destination. If you wish to go to a super rural area (i.e. unmanned station), you need to inform the railway company in advance.
Japan is becoming much more accessible. Most buses and trains in my area are accessible. Elevators to train platforms often have two doors, front and back, so there's no need to turn a wheelchair around, you can roll on and off in the same direction. Theaters and cinemas also have wheelchair seating, and shopping malls are accessible. Cultural sights like temples and shrines, because they are old, are more difficult to modify, but if you inquire they often have a ramp.
Asian countries are funny. You'll find a lot of accommodations for certain types of disabilities, but not others. For example, look at the sidewalks in the video (8:25): there's a lot of tactile paving for vision impaired people. Another thing specific to Japan is special facilities in public toilets everywhere for those with ostomy bags (14:22 Japan has a high colon cancer rate). Wheelchair accessibility is difficult due to the lack of space in the country and old buildings, but yeah things have improved markedly over the last 10 years.
Thank you for doing this video. Thank you for pointing out the Public Address Announcement in English. I was also listening to the background sounds & voices. The deer were gorgeous. Do they have caretakers/rangers? I'm glad you enjoyed your trip!

If there were a train like this in the UK it would be so expensive to travel on you would have to either be rich or save up to travel on it. I could not imagine our local council opening up their probably subsidised municipal offices canteen to the public. Excellent cheap day out, I would very much enjoy doing that journey.
What a beautiful train! Like others who've commented, I wish our trains in the USA were as lovely - and as clean! My family and I visited Nara in 1997. The multi-great grandparents of today's deer were just as aggressive (and cute). They reached into my pocketbook and ate the map I had in there. Of course they ate the deer cookies too.
Wonderful film thanks. I took the bullet train from Toyko to Kyoto and small train to Nara but not custom as shown . That train was not running back then. US can learn how t recapitalize rural areas by upgrading trains to connect small places quickly.

Find mandarin oranges in small cans at any US grocery store.
You can find fresh mandarins in the grocery produce dept. sold under the name of clementines.
