Today we have a Review, and demonstration of the Veritas Combination Plane.
The Veritas Combo Plane is really an evolution and refinement of the previous designs.
This is the first time I'm using multiple cameras, let me know how you think it works out. It's a learning process, but rather than NOT use it, I've settled for the imperfection of where I'm at in the learning curve.
    Hope you find it helpful.

Great Video!!! I bought mine a few month ago and I was disappointed to spend $500 because it's so hard to setup properly. But after watching your video now I feel much better. I think I am going to keep it. I just need to practice more

Glad I could help! Yes, it requires a bit of fiddling to get it right, but, indeed, with practice it becomes second nature.

Thanks for the informative video. I'm thinking about getting one and this gives me a good idea of how it is configured.

Great video, William. I like how you've upped your editing game. It really helps with two cameras.

Holding the crosscut saw incorrectly in your introductory part?

    • @allenwc
      @allenwc  Місяць тому

because I don’t extend my index finger along the handle? No, that’s not incorrect. You will notice that my hand fits comfortably in the handle with all fingers. This is a relatively large saw, with a correspondingly large handle.
One may extend one’s index finger but it isn’t required unless the handle is too small to fit your entire grip. A lot of small joinery saws have small handles.

    Peaceful raindrop.
With fence in position for a rabbet cut, I would suggest move the 2nd skate towards the main skate so you get support from both. It does look a lot better than the Stanley No 45s.

I have both skates just inside the blade edge, but as you move the fence in, under the blade, it would be worth moving the skate inside the fence, indeed. Thanks for pointing that out.

Its ths setup of blade to protrude slightly that always gets me like a shoulder plans.

I have one, used it once. All jobs are actually done between the skew rebate and the small plough for me. Too much hassle to setup and adjust and too heavy and unstable to use at length.

it certainly isn’t going to be ideal for everyone. Anything small one would be far better to use an appropriate sized specialty plane.

@@allenwc it's definitely a do-it-all item - nothing wrong with that. However, it's the master of none. I think if one can afford it, specialty smaller planes will work much better. One also does not need to buy veritas or lie Nielsen. Stanley 50 and 78 works perfectly fine (with PROPER tuning).

@@MintStiles Have to agree. The combination planes in general are very adaptable, but that is their weakness. That adaptability makes them more difficult to setup than a speciality plane. If you want a combination plane, I do think the Veritas is one to get, I’ve owned a Stanley and the Veritas has solved a lot of issues with the Stanley. Not all. It does an acceptable job as well.
      But
there is no question that a good quality tongue and groove plane is going to be much easier to use. 👍

That's very aggressive shaving indeed but I might back the blade for light cut to reduce the plane form digging while planning 🤔.
Waiting for my mail , just ordered one , I hope I can use it and setup it like you , any other tips of using can help me ???!

Any tips to give me other than the video demo ?????!

@@athmostafa2462 sometimes UA-cam does not tell me there is a reply. Best advice I can give is to start with the blade not cutting and advance it a tiny bit at a time. I wanted to demo a really big thick juicy cut so it could be clearly seen. Normally I take a much thinner cut. Thinner cuts are easier to push and to control that's for sure.

I already got mine and it's gorgeous to use and practice with 😊, bottom of the line I love it.👍

did you watch right to the end? When demonstrating the basic functions it isn't necessary to take much of a cut, or any really. One can actually practice just handling the plane in position without taking a cut and that will really help you learn to feel how the plane moves and where you need to push and how much.
