    Can you test compressors in future with raw noncompressed drum tracks? Or other raw dynamic stuff. That's the real life use and i think that's where you really hear how the compression will behave with transients

      he's emulating the plug-in by changing the parameters of the Sonible as a reference to what the ADC1 is doing...as it was already achieving the desired effect...he reviews the controls at the beginning...it's geared for those who already know something about compressors so i don't see it as being that deficient

    Regarding the last section of the video, talking about speed and efficiency, kinda reminds me how many mix engineers will use Rvox on their vocals. It might sound better to go into a comp and match it up with the vocal and get the settings right. Or you can get a great sound on Rvox by pulling like 2 faders. So this reminds me of that, slap it onto my drum bus and get that sweet vintage limiter sound with the flip of a switch.

    It's like the compressor is feeling the track as opposed to just analysing the volume. Release does seem to dance a bit as well, wonder if it's a knee/sustain setting as opposed to a release setting.
    Wish there were a standalone real time A/B volume analyzer for plugins like this to really see the technical settings of the compression!

      A day late and a penny short: This compressor has a LOT more options for a resulting sound than Pulsar Smasher, which I also really like.
      The range of capability and tonalities available with this compressor are not covered. He went for a particular sound instance and found he could achieve it. That was all.

    I completely agree with your assessment of the plugin universe. All your plugins are different colours for your palette whilst you mix and you can combine any of them to create your own expression. Alternatively, you can buy plugins that combine the colours you already have into an easier to use package. This Kiive thing is a tube compressor with a specific EQ curve is all I am hearing. I can achieve similar results with the Parallel Compression preset on the IK Multimedia Brickwall Limiter. Same width expansion, same stereo separation at some interesting frequencies and a pretty good slam on low tom area. In any case, I love your channel. I learn stuff about audio from your ramblings and appreciate you work. Keep going!!!

    I've unsubscribed and here's the reason. Almost every video has 10% useful information, 80% is skippable and the other 10% is mandatory mentioning your independence. I was hoping you would grow out of mentioning screws etc. in every plugin where you have to rely on your ears and not the visual interface of every single plugin, and all the antics that follow along in every single video you do. It's not for me and it lacks in depth sharing your knowhow of plugins you review. It's very superficial and overly dramatic to a point where I had to say, enough. I'll be back in a few years and wish you well with this format. Thought I'd owe you an explanation because you're actually really knowledgeable, we just get to see very little of it. Good luck.

    This sounds better than the UAD Zener Limiter/Compressor (Which still sounds amazing), IMHO. And Kiive's Distressor sounds way better than UAD version. I compared them and it was obvious. Likely because UAD don't update their emulations (Many still sound great though). But this developer is using more modern code, and emulation development processes (UAD's are 8+ years old). I bet he wins awards for his plugins, especially given the intro prices. It's like plugins have gone from 90% sounding like analogue to 98% and many engineers could not tell the difference blind tests.

    • @Oleoproteus
      @Oleoproteus Рік тому

      it's your point of view and I disagree, I tried both in different configuration when it cames out and the UAD is much more organic and alive, much deeper and bigger sharp sound. Not sure but I guess the Uad is the Softube one

    • @RJ1J
      @RJ1J Рік тому

      @@Oleoproteus I compared the UAD Distressor to the Kiive one in this review, not Softube. Also. Softube don't make a Distressor. I think they work with Empirical Labs on a version of the Distressor called the Mike-E compressor. Maybe Softube did both UAD and their own version of the Distressor, but I've used both the Mike-£ and UAD Distressor and found the Mike-E to be less noisy. Yes, the UAD is deeper, but I disagree on sharpnees. The Mike-E is so expensive, and as far as I'm concerned the Kiive is just as good on the comrpession side (Maybe not so much on the saturation).
