  • This is a CLIP from ‪@urfriendlyhood‬ covering Cyril of Alexandria's teachings on salvation and how they relate to Faith Alone Justification.
Cyril of Alexandria (Ancient Greek: Κύριλλος Ἀλεξανδρείας; Coptic: Ⲡⲁⲡⲁ Ⲕⲩⲣⲓⲗⲗⲟⲩ ⲁ̅ or ⲡⲓ̀ⲁⲅⲓⲟⲥ Ⲕⲓⲣⲓⲗⲗⲟⲥ; c. 376-444) was the Patriarch of Alexandria from 412 to 444.[1][2] He was enthroned when the city was at the height of its influence and power within the Roman Empire. Cyril wrote extensively and was a major player in the Christological controversies of the late-4th and 5th centuries. He was a central figure in the Council of Ephesus in 431, which led to the deposition of Nestorius as Patriarch of Constantinople. Cyril is counted among the Church Fathers and also as a Doctor of the Church, and his reputation within the Christian world has resulted in his titles Pillar of Faith and Seal of all the Fathers. The Nestorian bishops at their synod at the Council of Ephesus declared him a heretic, labelling him as a "monster, born and educated for the destruction of the church."[3]
Cyril is well known for his dispute with Nestorius and his supporter, Patriarch John of Antioch, whom Cyril excluded from the Council of Ephesus for arriving late. He is also known for his expulsion of Novatians and Jews from Alexandria and for inflaming tensions that led to the murder of the Hellenistic philosopher Hypatia by a Christian mob. Historians disagree over the extent of his responsibility in this.
Cyril tried to oblige the pious Christian emperor Theodosius II (AD 408-450) to himself by dedicating his Paschal table to him.[4] Cyril's Paschal table was provided with a Metonic basic structure in the form of a 19-year lunar cycle adopted by him around AD 425, which was very different from the first Metonic 19-year lunar cycle invented around AD 260 by Anatolius, but exactly equal to the lunar cycle which had been introduced around AD 412 by Annianus; the Julian equivalent of this Alexandrian cycle adopted by Cyril and nowadays referred to as the 'classical (Alexandrian) 19-year lunar cycle' would emerge a century later in Rome as the basic structure of Dionysius Exiguus’ Paschal table (AD 525).[5]
The Catholic Church did not commemorate Saint Cyril in the Tridentine calendar: it added his feast only in 1882, assigning to it the date of 9 February. This date is used by the Western Rite Orthodox Church. Yet the 1969 Catholic Calendar revision moved it to 27 June, considered to be the day of the saint's death, as celebrated by the Coptic Orthodox Church.[6] The same date has been chosen for the Lutheran calendar. The Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic Churches celebrate his feast day on 9 June and also, together with Pope Athanasius I of Alexandria, on 18 January.
Cyril is remembered in the Church of England with a commemoration on 27 June.[7]

St. Cyril taught the Eucharist is the true flesh and blood of Jesus:
Having learned these things, and been fully assured that the seeming bread is not bread, though sensible to taste, but the Body of Christ; and that the seeming wine is not wine, though the taste will have it so, but the Blood of Christ; and that of this David sung of old, saying, And bread strengthens man’s heart, to make his face to shine with oil, strengthen your heart, by partaking thereof as spiritual, and make the face of your soul to shine. (Catechetical Lecture 22:9)

Yeah but non of them taught faith alone
And i just give the fact that St. Cyril taught the eucharist as an example that he also didn't
But unfriendlyhood forgot to mention it
Or he didn't mentioned it on purpose because he wants to paint the picture that early church taught protestant doctrine or something

1: Nestorius did NOT teach that Jesus was human. It was that he taught that the humanity and divinity of Christ were separable.
2: Theotokos is an actual word that is used during Orthodox services and in Orthodox theology. It is a common term, not only used by "Orthodox trad LARPers" as you said but also by clergy and laity.
3: Cyril did not live the life of a "normal pastor": firstly, he was a priest, not a pastor, and more importantly he was the pope of the Alexandrian Patriarchate, not just some random clergyman.
I could pick at your argument here regarding Sola Fide, but given how many errors you made in the first 30 seconds of this video, I would rather not.

James 2 is not talking about salvation. If it was, it would contradict this:
      ‭Romans 4:5 KJV‬
[5] But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

@@unfriendlyhood it clearly states that without works faith is dead, the Catholic Church condemned the idea that you are saved by works in the council of Trent. You are not saved by works but by your faith and God’s grace. How can I say I follow Christ and have faith, but I go around hating people, not help the poor, even go as far as unaliving people, would I still be saved? No. That’s why the 10 commandments were put in place. Are you gonna say the 10 commandments don’t require works? Of course they do. Also St Cyril of Alexandria would disagree fully with your beliefs with this modern Christianity you bring to the table. God bless 🙏

@@fernandoandrade2097 If "True Faith" is needed for Salvation and "True Faith" requires Works or else it's not "True Faith", then you believe in Works Salvation.
      It's Simple Logic:

      "True Faith" = Good Works

1 John 2:3-6 - Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
We are to walk as He walked. To follow the commandments of Christ to remain in Christ. This is what faith means. To have faith means to be faithful to God, not just to mentally think some thoughts about God. If you want to abide in Christ, you need to follow the commandments of Christ and strive to be like Him. Of course we will fall. Everyone falls. The important thing is to get back up every time you fall. That's what it means to be faithful.

Theotokos is used by trad LARPers? That title is used by all Orthodox Christians everywhere in all times. It says much more about Christ than it does about Mary. The reason we call her that is because we are affirming that Jesus Christ is indeed God Himself and always was from His very conception.

He says we aren’t “justified by WORKS OF THE LAW” - to which you then only picked up as “not justified by works.”
Don’t let your excitement for a “W” make you over look the details. “Works of the law” is a reference to the 600-ish laws of the Jews at that time, as describes in the manuals found in the Dead Sea scrolls.

You clearly haven't read the Bible. Those 613 laws are found in the book of Exodus, Leviticus, and Deuteronomy. Among them are laws like, Thou shall not Rape, Thou shalt love THE LORD thy God with all thine heart, and Thou Shalt Love thy Neighbor as thyself. All of those are counted as "The Law" in the Bible.
