      Hey Joe. Yes Dave got us kettle users spinning steaks on the kettle first, then designed that SNS into the kamado on the top, and standard kamado cooking style with the changeup. Looking forward to doing so many different things on this cooker. Thanks for watching.

  • @crazymonkey9611
    @crazymonkey9611 4 роки тому +1

    That’s a nice looking cooker. Will it tolerate briquettes without impacting the ceramics? I’ve always heard you should only use lump in a kamado style cooker bc the pores in the ceramic will absorb the lighter fluid flavor that’s built into the briquettes. Or did you use the all natural briquettes that don’t have that? Always love your work. Please send me one of those steaks.

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019  4 роки тому

      Hey CM, I used Kingsford Premium and it was contained in the Stainless Steel Slow N Sear charcoal basket. I have not heard about charcoal being bad for use in the ceramic cooker. Pretty sure both can be used, but most use the lump which I will use if setup as a standard kamado cook. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy Thanksgiving

    For a 1st cook you hit out of the park. I would suggest that the slow and sear flame is close to the seal. Would like to see the tray mod to a smaller dimension to allow you to move away from the edge. This would give a better flame protection and longer life to the seal .at least 100mm from the edge for searing. 🙌🙌🙌🙌. Great unit. When are they coming to Australia. 🤔🤔🤔

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and your thoughts. I thought the same thing after watching the playback how the flame was kissing the gasket. Not sure about offering to Australian users. Maybe Dave could shed some light. I'll ask him about it.

    Grate steaks! Any concerns over the longevity of the gasket with the flames?

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019  4 роки тому

      I noticed that too. There is some room to slide the SNS out away from the edge as much as you want or need.. Only do this couple times a month. Next time I'll use this trick to prevent the hot fire from being hard against the gasket. Should be fine. Thanks for watching and the comments.

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019  4 роки тому

      Hey Craig. Two things I found out. Kamado's are heavy meaning you know you are hooked onto something when you grabb it like you do the kettle or wsm and it doesn't move. lol The other thing is they can get very hot, but that can be a plus if you learn to control it. I shut it down with a hot fire. Came back two hours later and still couldn't leave my hand on top. Holds heat like still on. I saw on a video where the guy pulled the kickash basket out after the cook to help the cooker cool down quicker. You should go watch the short videos about the Kickash basket and kickash can. Very worthwhile accessories. They have them for the KJ at that site. You just lift the basket and shake it, them grab the kickash can from the bottom and dump it.

    • @beers-jackofbbq
      @beers-jackofbbq 4 роки тому +1

      Phil N Florence Thanks Phil! I actually have a Kick Ash basket, it was the 1st accessory I got for my KJ, but I really do appreciate you sharing your thoughts! I agree, it is great to use and a great way to shake out the ash and save the charcoal! When I got my Big Joe, I talked Jack into helping assemble, we should have had another person or 2 young guy to help put into the stand. LOL It was heavy! They take a little longer to heat up but they hold tremendous heat. Dave is doing a great job with SNS grills. I just saw they have a rotisserie for your new cooker! Have a great Thanksgiving!

    Phil, another great cook! Thanks for sharing your new “toy” :-). That said, did the steaks taste appreciably better using the Kamada vs what you have been able to produce on the Kettle or modified WSM using the SnS?

      No, pretty much the same experience. It's just a nice feature for sns kamado owners to be able to use this method also since that is one of the features of the cooker. Thanks

      Ok, thanks! I was wondering if there was a bit of a difference. Still, the Kamado looks like a nice/versatile rig.
