I picked up a bottle this past winter mostly because of Martin Cates tiki book. I tasted it once and havnt been into it since. Ill have to bust it out tonight and give it another try neat and in a recipe from that book. Thanks for the review!
@@rumbrothersreviews Ill have to agree mostly with your assessment. Very dry, barrel, subdued carmel flavors, astringent nose. Im not getting much of the pepper tho. An interesting note on the age: Smugglers Cove has this listed as "blended, long aged" whatever that means. For my money, I'd rather buy a bottle of Zacapa 23. Santa Teresa 1796 makes a decent daiquiri but sugar and lime can help any rum across the finish line. I wouldnt buy it again, and probably wont need to. This will be on the shelf for a while.
Zacapa is another solera rum though you guys have only reviewed the XO. I think you’d get a lot more out of Zacapa 23 than you did this. Also try Dictador 20 from Columbia!
Nice review! Along with Diplomatico, Pampero is also a Venezuelan rum. Comes in a leather bag. Not sure if you have reviewed it? Would be interesting to see your take on it!
