@@darrellslover6834 It's definitely not. It's an el cheapo piece of junk replica somebody sold at a flea market and this poor guy uses it to critique Gil Hibben knives. Pretty cringe. Seems to have quite a bit of trouble operating a pair of pliers in the video so I'm questioning his ability to judge the knifemaking ability of legendary custom knifemakers.
It's all about the construction. Master makes one of the best full-tang chopper knives out, with 440C steel - look up the Raptor. Nice Micarta handle, too. Yes, Master has a lot of junk... but every so often they throw in some quality models.
Remember, you get what you pay for! If you purchase a knife through Gil Hibbens website, you’re going to get a good quality knife. This shit that you are showing us was MORE THEN LIKELY made in a CHINA! Gil Hibben has his knives made in large quantities by a cutlery company. The name escapes me!
@@pipewelda ////United Cutlery too...Maybe they are the same company? Some of the Hibben laser-etch signed knives produced by United Cutlery have 7cr17mov or 7cr13 steel. And if you get one that’s full tang, such as the Hibben Combat Fighter knife, what could fail? Love that knife design! The man was at the top of his game the day he laid out that knife design....I personally think that if the U.S. military were to adopt a more modern knife design, the Combat Fighter should be it. Pairs up well with an AR-15.
First off, Gil Hibben didn't design the First Blood or even First Blood part 2 knives. The First Blood was designed by Jimmy Lile. The second was inspired by the first. Second didn't you think that's why the knife was at a flea market to begin with? Most flea markets sell junk. I have a Rambo 3 knife with a ticket of authenticity and have taken it apart and it looks nothing like that. The tang is much thicker and no welds. Third, that's not a tack weld. It's a forge weld (chemical weld) which is stronger. These knives are meant to be more of a collector piece, not to abuse by chopping down a tree. I use mine for display and an occasional knife to cut old shirts. Stays sharp. I've never sharpened it in the 10 years I had it
Well said! My knife doesn't behave like his. Ive just also bought the rambo 4 machete its full tang 1090 carbon steel and is heavy and mean. By G Hibern
@@donavantew8278i dont think he deserve to be called a jerk. We all know what is a legit knife and what are the imitation or display knives are. I think this videos is for newbies, who wants to be a collector. We don't want them to be disappointed. There are many kinds of knives of with different purposes. All my knives are fighting knives. I dont used that to cut bushes, Wood. I prefer using bolo for wood. Rambo 3 knife is a fighting knife. Stabbing, slashing, cutting. Not wood chopping or any utility knife. Otherwise the lifespan of the knife will be shorter
It's hard to be kind when someone makes as many completely goofy statements as you make in this one video. In the first place, you never use a knife to do the job of a machete unless you're at least two bricks shy of a load. More like two hundred bricks shy of a load. In the second place, that is not a rattail. There are several terms for that kind of tang, but rattail is not one of the. It's just a cheap hidden tang, and Gil Hibben did not even design that part of the knife. He made the design for the blade, and the cheap company that used the design added the cheapest tang imaginable to the blade design. In the third place, you lose a bunch more bricks for think this is actually a Gil Hibben knife at all, in any way. It isn't. It's a dirt cheap knife, made from dirt cheap Chinese steel, by a dirt cheap company, and you should have known what you were getting. But I suppose someone who would use a Bowie knife as a machete can't be expected to know much of anything. Even today, very few things from China are what they pretend to be, and this includes knife steel. You almost never get the steel a knife is supposed to be made of, you just get the Chinese approximation of that steel, which is usually pretty bad. What that knife was made, everything from China was pure garbage, and Gil Hibben had nothing to do with any product that came from China. In the fourth place, how in God's name could you not tell this knife was a cheap Chinese fake just by looking at it? And as soon as you picked it up, the weight, the grip, the pommel, the guards, and especially that that little pommel screw should have screamed EXTREMELY CHEAP FAKE! In the fifth place, you could have learned all of this by doing five minutes of real research. In the sixth place, I don't care how cheap a knife is, using old pliers to take off a nut means you are as far from knife knowledgeable as it's possible to get. But we knew that when you actually thought this was a Gil Hibben knife. Or when you actually thought this knife was worth more than two dollars.
I have used some of my Bowies for machetes and light hatchets , but both are well made from reputable manufacturers ... A western W49 And a tramontina 10" bowie
The actual real Rambo 3 is full tang. And Hibben had nothing to do with either of the first blood knives btw those were done by Jimmy lile and Stallone himself
That's what I am saying too. I had a hard time watching the video but when it got to that point I had to pause it and head for the comments. What ever credibility he thought he might have had just went out the freaking window with the pliers on the hex nut thing. That one move showed exactly what kind of judge he is.....
@jhon doe Patrick Sira didn't say or even imply you "can't" use pliers to remove a hex nut, what he was saying is, that is a strong sign the narrator doesn't know crap about what he is talking about. One should NEVER use pliers on a hex bolt UNLESS there is no other option available.
@@1959jimbob And if you're making a video, for the sake of flow, why wouldn't you break the ut first before filming. Instead, fumbling around for everyone to see was just sad to watch.
this is not a gill hibben knife. it is a fake. i have the 1000 dollar version of this knife. only 100 made. limited. stamped JR for john rambo 3 of 100. i will be doing a video on it next week.
No sir, Jimmy Lile designed and made the First Blood and Rambo 2 knives, he went back to Lile for the part 3 knife, Lile couldnt pull off the concept but recommend Hibbin to do it, Sly hooked up with Gil for 3, 4, and 5, and the Expendables.
Yeah seems like using pliers, critiquing knives, and making videos ("I'm not sure if you can see this", "I'm not sure if this is showing up" repeatedly), is just not his cup of tea. Plus the tiny detail of that not being a Gil Hibben knife. Altogether pretty cringe.
Did you even consider the idea of where you got the knife from, I own two Gil Hibben knives which I purchase through an actual dealer and I have had NO problems with them yet!!! You said it yours, you bought it at a flee market so you don't even know who made it or what it has been through!!!
Honestly some goony could have busted the real tang an done ancheap fix (oh and by the way your a fuzzbrained idiot that doesn’t know scat about knives the screw in the handle should be a dead giveaway that the thing is crap all true knife experts know this)
It's a $29.99 Chinese version of the Gil Hibben 3 Fighter made of 420 stainless shit steel! A real knife made by Gil Hibben would retail into the $1000 and up range and you ain't gonna find it at a fleamarket.
This is made by united cutlery, You owe Gil a fucking apology he is a legend in the knife making community and his customs go for thousands of dollars for good reason. Educate yourself.
This is a movie knife replica no shit you shouldn’t use it for chopping stuff or using it in general. He makes other knifes besides these that are extremely great quality.
For the first time I’m so glad that the “ Thumbs Down 👎 “ are MORE than the “ Thumbs Up 👍🏻 “. Hibben makes some of the most beautiful knives out there . It’s a knife . Not a machete .
Under no circumstances should you ever use a Bowie knife or any fixed blade knife for clearing brush, I'm sure that's what he intended to say! Just as a machete would be inappropriate for shucking clams, a Bowie knife is not on the list of choices for yard work I.e. Brunch clearing, tree trimming. However the aforementioned machete is very well suited for this type of work . It is too bad there wasn't the appropriate level of supervision on hand to intercede on his very poor and possibly fatal choice of implements for this task. What father has not instructed his adolescent offspring to trim the shrubs and trees, then came outside only to be horrified by his child's choice of instruments, for the task. This is clearly what isee has happened here. Wrong tool for the task! Chalk it up as a learning experience and you'll be none the worse for ware. Good day to you fine sir.
This knife isn't a Hibben. Only the knife design is from Hibben, Master Cutlery is the knife maker. United Cutlet has the rights to make all Hibben knives, besides the Rambo ones...

@@lindahibben6718 First ,thank you all from Hibben knives It works for me very well. I make every outdoor tasks with the knife. I cannot believe that you have written me. I Wish the whole Hibben family only the best and I’m proud to have such a good knife. Greetings from Germany.
That knife isn't the real thing. It is meant to be collected and not used. They go for ~$140 new. It is a prop/memorabilia reproduction. It is not to say that it isn't a cool piece to display, just not meant for cutting down trees and other normal things. Gil Hibbins designed the Rambo III knife. Believe it or not, you can still buy a quality Jimmy Lile Rambo I and II reproduction knife that is actually meant to be used. They go for $2k+, but at the end of the day, that is what was really used in the films. The knife you have was made just to give fans and collectors a taste of the look and feel of the real thing, just not the functionality.
Nice one! That is not a handmade Hibben Knife in the video, it is not even a Hibben Licensed reproduction. He bought it at a flea market 30 years ago?? Linda Hibben
@@lindahibben6718 hi Linda. Are you saying it is not a United Cutlery Rambo III? It looks like it from the blade etching and the sheath. Those were licensed replicas weren’t they?
Beware of those who make fancy claims in the areas of bolt cutting and piercing silver dollars. If you want to cut a bolt get yourself a chisel. If you desire to punch holes in a few silver dollars you will find a drill press does a much smoother job. It is true that any good piece of steel can be sharpened to an edge that will do these things, however, a knife sharpened to skin a deer or elk will not make a satisfactory chisel or punch. - Gil Hibben (From his first catalog, 1964)
Wicked looking blade and handle. Had mine since 1990. Just a show piece and also a Black Jack Mamba. Which is the real deal. Tops Knives are awesome. TOPS Steel Eagle107C Delta Class. TOPS TEX Creek XL
The late Jimmy Lile made the first two Rambo movie knives. Gil Hibben made the Rambo 3 and Rambo 4 movie knives. That United Cutlery knife you have there is a factory made replica, NOT a hand made Hibben knife. These Chinese factory knives are primarily display wall hangers, and are not really designed for hard use. A real Hibben handmade would last a lifetime, even with hard use.
Correction sir! Jimmy Lile made the the knives for FIRST BLOOD and RAMBO. Then Stallone wanted to go into a “different direction” with the RAMBO knives. So, for RAMBO III, he hired GIL HIBBEN! Gil Hibben, has done the knives for RAMBO 4 and finally (hopefully not the last) RAMBO 5 Which is called, RAMBO LAST BLOOD. Hope this helps.
Nice looking knife! Even though it may be of a weaker quality, look on the bright side! You can drill a hole in the tang, and have a screw secure the handle. You can also try to take it to a knife-maker who could perhaps reweld the tang tail with a better quality material. Look at the Extrema Ratio Mk2.1 tang solution. It also uses somewhat similar technique. Also, if you choke up on the handle and do not abuse the knife, it could serve you well. You know cheapo knives are great for getting the feeling of the real one, and make nice decorations, light use hobby knives. How about in the kitchen? So cheer up! This is not a 600 dollar strider that you find that you don't like anymore, or worse yet, scratched up!!!!
I also need to correct you with some FACTS. For a start, Stallone had collected many of Gil Hibben's HANDMADE knives for years, before he approached Gil Hibben, to make the Rambo III knife back in 1986, for the movie. Stallone wanted the blade to look like Gil Hibben's Coffin Handle Bowie. With some twoing and throwing, between Gil Hibben and Stallone, they came up with the handle shape that we all know today. You have incorrectly stated that the knife you are showing is one of Gil Hibben's handmade knives, which is incorrect. Gil Hibben, allowed United Cutlery to make a slightly scaled down mass produced copy, so that the fans of the movie, who couldn't afford a hand made knife could have one. These mass produced factory made knives were NEVER intended to be manufactured for hard use, and were manufactured for display purposes, or for light use. The craftsmanship and materials that Gil Hibben uses for his handmade version, will take a lot of hard use, but everything has a breaking point! You can purchase a set of Snap-On tools, but if you abuse the hell out of them, they will eventually break and fail, that is common sense. Gil Hibben has made handmade knives for over 40 years, and has been recognised and given many awards, for his craft. Here is an analogy for you, I could go out tomorrow and buy a cheap knock-off Rolex watch, and a few weeks or months later, the internals will stop working, or the strap will break! A more expensive original Rolex however, is made by professionals, with top of the range materials, and should last a lifetime, if however, something fails, which is not due to abuse, it will be covered on the lifetime warranty.... So you get what you pay for I am afraid....You buy a mass produced factory replica from a flea market, that is solely intended for display purposes, do not expect it to hold up, like a handmade knife would....
Man, you have got to use the right tool for the job. Get a wrench. Don't use pliers to turn a bolt or nut like that... Also, I don't believe that knife was made to be used as a machete, get a machete... Finally, that thing was made in China (fairly certain Gil Hibben isn't Chinese), you probably paid less than $100 for it (or you got ripped off), so what did you expect?
A little disappointing to see such effort put into a video that is pointless. You state you bought this knife at a flea market....for how much? Gil Hibben's knives are well over $1000 - did you pay that much? Probably not, which should tell you that its a replica for being a toy to be displayed in a case or on a wall.
yep i got number 3 of 100 of this knife. the real one that has jr for john rambo and 3 of 100. he did 100 ones of rambo 4 and those are 1500. my brother who is a scientist bought it for me. not sure what he paid. i think it was 500 etc.
Reminds me of the survival knife they sold in the comics for just 19.95. As for the knife you presented, it needs to show you using this knife and failing the test you gave it. 😮
I have the hibben 4 machete knife thing. Its a solid peice of 1090 high carbon steel and the sheath is really well done. I wouldnt buy a rat tail tang or a stick tang rambo knife but the one solid chunk of 1/4" steel is good.
Same. The hibben IV is basically a one handed axe or hatchet. I use it for final prep of firewood. Also makes a killer draw knife. Solid thick 1090 steel holds a razor edge and easy to sharpen even with just a file. There is nothing that can go wrong with it since it's a slicey leaf spring.
That's not a custom made Gil Hibben knife. That's a replica made by United Cutlery. I own several Hibben Knives. Its a disgrace you cant distinguish the difference. Gils knives are phenomenal.
I own a few Gil Hibben knives. These are Chinese knock off pieces of junk. I've been collecting knives since 1963 when I was eight years old. I have high-end Rocksteads down to flea market junk. Sir, you are entered into a world view. There are regiments of knife aficionados here. It is better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
I jad a real Hibben knife as a young lady new to the hobby. It was far from an amazing knife but I wouldn't call it garbage. Definitely more for show than use but I feel I could have used it lightly if I wanted to.
@@markperkins9445 as I thought....the problem with this video is the guy is intimating the knife was MADE by Gil Hibben and it was NOT, the knife in the video is not even a licensed replica by United Cutlery!
Thanx for your honest review Gil Hibben Knives suck i bout a Rambo IV Machete the black one, the handle doesnt fit even in the biggest hands, it was so doll it couldnt even cut a carton !! i send it immediately back
I don't know about this particular knife but I did purchase a Gil Hibben Alaskan boot knife that I would only recommend to small people, the handle is way too short for a normal size guy also the knife came very dull. Love the looks of it and it seems to have some nice heft but what good is a knife that you can only fit 3 finger on the handle.
And another guy who just talks nonsense on UA-cam. Firstly, the procedure for welding a threaded rod is used by many knife makers. Secondly, the knife shown is designed by Gil Hibben and manufactured in small numbers, but most were mass-produced in China under license from United Cuttlery. That means that it is a replica of a Gil Hibben knife. I've been using the so-called Gil Hiben Highlander Bowie for 32 years, as seen in Natural Born Killers, and I can't complain about its flawless functionality over the long period of time. So before you badmouth someone in a video, get the right information.
Absolutely amazing. What resources did you use to verify that this is an authentic Hibben? The person you got it from at the flea market? On the upside thanks for the entertainment value of your vid. BTW, probably not just the "Makers of this knife," that should be prosecuted. I think I've heard of a little thing that rhymes with liable.
Gil Hibbin designed the knife, and he made a small run of them, to my knowledge, what u have is a Unighted Cutlery reproduction, Gils pommel is slightly different on his builds, one says Rambo 3, and one days Hibbin 3, one is made by Gil, the other by United Cutlery, i dont know which is which though.
I was thinking that a lock washer would fix the "loose nut" problem, but when you took it apart I thought a display case and mounting over the fireplace was more appropriate. LOL I steer clear of knives in BUD K magazines, which this knife is in (and other Gil Hibben knives. Mr. Hibbens makes high quality custom knives, but his design is probably the property of the manufacturer and they can change it to lower costs. Ask PM101 about his Schrade made chopper, Jess X I believe. Schrade changed the saber grind to a hollow grind and he cannot do anything about it.
Ya this is the guy we need technical and mechanical expertise from one who uses a pliers on a headed bolt . None of my hibbin knives have ever given me a lick of trouble and they have been used and abused for years now.after watching this review I went down and took mine apart just to see if there was any differance ,mine looks norhing like the one in the review same basic desighn but neatly done and zero rust on the bolt .The only problem I have ever had is with the sheaths I just don't like them but that is because I can make my own .THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM IT IS NORMALL WITH LOW AND MID RANGE PRICED KNIVES THE SHEATHS ARE ALL LACKING in one way or the other but the knives are all great so fare some 40 years of buying and playing with them . There was an od statment made by the reviewer the blade was to hard HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
This is not a knife made from Gill Hibben. it was designed by him but it is made in china like all the other Gill Hibbens knifes that they are sold out there
It's a 3/4 hidden tang with a rat tail. Who else used rat tails? The Romans. I would use a Gladius in combat any day. The construction doesn't suck, the materials could just be better.
Well well well , Not sure if this is UC or MC but either way you should not say Gil Hibben knives because those are not Gil Hibben knives those are only designed by Gil made in china ! And only one company is actually endorsed by Gil and that is UC everything else is garbage and not endorsed by Gil. Regardless if you want real Gil Hibben knife that you can actually use you have to pay for it if you can find one because there was only like 450 of those made. One would have to saw the handle off in order to get it off lol but get ready to spend pretty penny .
SENGVIN look dude clearly your Hibben fan , the mans name is right their on the blade, you know what that means????? It means gill hibben got a check from Uc or mc or whatever chinamen company made that price of crap. Do you understand that this dude is trying to save people the headache or possible injury from buying this garbage. And there is no way for you to clean up hibbens reputation , it's fucking trash dude that's the grief hibben is gonna get for making a quick buck of his name. End of story.
Well clearly I'm his fan and clearly I can tell difference between hand made knife made by Gil Hibben and Design by Gil Hibben made in china....You know what that means right ? yea it means they are using Gil Hibben Design lol . I know devil is in the detail but it got you confused right ? Anyways who knows what would you do in his position but a lot of people are selling their design and I'm sure you wold do the same if the opportunity came knocking. In this case the UC company is using his design ,that is far from the original knife. There is not much he can say as far as the material used to make those chines knives. Some companies are using his name illegally, what are you going to say about that ? Clearly companies want to use his name because he is famous guy. And now he is even more famous because of that . (nothing wrong with it) Lastly I do agree with you that all those Chines copies are junk (99%) and people should be warned about them 100% true. I my self did the same mistake at the beginning because I didn't know better. We all learn every day and one of the most important skill to learn now days is how to distinguish between deceiving advertisement and reality .
You're right dude, because there has never been anyone who sells clone/counterfeit knives at a flea market. This guy's channel is so bush league it's humorous.
Its an early United Cutlery wall hanger, and NOT meant for use, unlike Gil's real handmade knives, that this was based upon. The guy in this video is also incorrect in that Gil never made the knives for the first 2 rambo movies. I hope the uploader of this video will correct his negativity towards Hibben Knives, and give people the correct information. :/
I can see why you think that is garbage and rightfully so, but I am a collector of knives and I have just purchased a Gil Hibben Karambit which the quality is excellent. I'm used to collecting cold steel knives and victorinox also. I'm not sure about Gil Hibben yet but I would ring them up and complain as that Bowie is crap. For such a heavy knife having a parcial tang is just madness.
Can't add anything that hasn't already been said. Except stop buying knives at flea markets before you hurt yourself, and use the right tool for the job.
That's not your everyday kitchen knife. That's a Rambo knife. A killing tool. Nothing more.. if you find it hard to sharpen the blade, it doesn't mean it's a bad kind of steel. You just don't know how to sharpen knives. If you're still using a whetstone, well this isn't the stone age anymore. Get yourself a belt sander to shArpen yours
I look at Hibben knives as decorative art. Something to use on a camp - I use a Cold Steel SRK. I know there are better blades out there for actual heavy use. Gil makes art knives and I personally like his stuff. Plus, he has a few dozen designs at least and that is just one - and I'm not sure that is a legit Hibben.
My idea of a Gil Hibben knife has always been that they were display pieces anyway, so I mean, if you thought a display knife would do the work of a REAL Knife, who's fault is that?
This is a Chinese knockoff of a real Gil Hibben knife. These can be found all over eBay! The First Blood and First Blood Part 2 knives were designed by Jimmy Lile, and unfortunately there are numerous Chinese knockoffs of his knives all over the internet. Master Cutlery has the license to the Rambo name, and they produce those knives in China as well. The 1980's United Cutlery replicas were closely monitored by Jimmy Lile, Stallone, Hibben, and Carolco Pictures as the official movie replicas produced in Taiwan. Even those knives are not meant to be used as actual survival knives, and they are literally just considered movie props. The real Hibben and Lile Rambo knives are priced well over 1000 dollars.
As many here rightfully have commented jimmy Lile designed and made the knives for the first two rambo movies. For the 3rd movie Sylvester Stallone, as also mentioned in previous comments, wanted something different. And here's where I'm not really sure about what actually happened but I was told that mr Stallone first went to Bill Moran and wanted him make him a st23 knife which I believe was a design mr Moran made as early as in the 60s. Mr Stallone apparently wanted mr Moran to make him the knife for free since the knife would be featured in the movie thus making it and and for most it's maker famous which mr Stallone maybe thought would sufficient pay for the knife. So when mr Moran declined the offer Stallone went to Gil Hibben asking him to make a knife for him which mr Hibben also did copying Bill Moran's st23 design. That's why the rambo 3 knife looks the way it does and if laid side by side with the st23 anyone should see that it in fact is a straight out copy of mr Moran's design. This is how the story was told to me, or at least how I remember it, 30 years ago when I went to the ABS Bill Moran school of bladesmiting in Arkansas. Since I haven't read all the comments I don't know if someone already brought this to attention but I definitely think it should.
Sorry, but this is incorrect.....Stallone went to Jimmy Lile after Moran and that was the beginning of the First Blood Knife. Moran had nothing to do with the Rambo III knife....As I formally mentioned, it was Gil Hibben's Coffin Handle Bowie Stallone wanted modified, for the Rambo III movie knife...Stallone wanted a "slot" not a huge oval, that Jimmy did as a prototype. I think you are referring to the Hibben "Arizona Bowie', that was never used in the film, it was actually made for Last Blood, which was never used.....Some people who are ill-informed wrongly stating that the Hibben 'Arizona Bowie' is a copy of a Moran knife. Stallone went to Moran first, THEN, Jimmy Lile and that was the birth of the First Blood Knife....Gil Hibben wasn't even involved until late 1986 AFTER Stallone rejected Jimmy Lile's oval slot Bowie. Stallone then approached Gil Hibben, as he wanted to use Gil Hibben's Coffin Handle Bowie blade for the Rambo III knife. I hope this has dispelled some of the incorrect information that is doing the rounds on the internet? Did you ever try and contact Hibben Knives to verify the facts first? IF you had, Linda Hibben, would have been more than happy to give you the facts, as the Hibben family are very approachable, and will ALWAYS find time to reply to your questions. :)
It was always my thought that the Rambo 3 knife was designed more for the fantasy element rather than its practical application. Regardless, it seems like the one you have here is a cheaper knock off version anyway so not a good example overall. Still some important safety information, I think some of the haters have been a bit mean in the comment section here, but I can see both sides.
Damn! 'End him rightly' is all over the internet like an outbreak of measles! But really, Gil Hibben is mostly known for his fantasy designs which while they're nice, fon't have to be-and aren't indended to be-functional. They're art you can cut yourself on.
I´ve you don´t need it anymore, you can send it to me Sir. By the way. I use my Gil Hibben Highlander Bowie for about 27 Years, and never had any Problems. Sometimes it´s less the wrong Knive than the wrong User.......!
this is a replica knife its basically a decoration and not meant for use many of his knives are pretty sturdy and the discription of the product tells you if it is full tang never use a fixed blade unless it is full tang
Gil Hibbin makes excellent knives, u need to clarify that Gil Hibbin didn't build that knife, it may now be ur opinion that Hibbin makes garbage, but u would be mistaken, Unighted Cutlery is not known for great builds, and thats who made ur knife, its a movie replica, u would think it would be usable, but use was not its intended purpose, its a novalty knife, for show, to collect, display etc. How many actual Gil Hibbin knives do u own, to call them garbage? What did u pay for that knife? 100$ maybe? Gil Hibbins version was about $700.00, the 30 year anniversary edition is $1280.00 big difference in quality there sir. U should do more research before telling people the guy makes garbage knives, based off of one knife that he didnt build. Peace
For starters that is a China clone. The Gil Hibben Rambo III knives were limited edition and only 100 were made. The hilt is lazer engraved with Gil Hibben"s signature and "X of 100" on 1 side and "RIII" on the other. The blade is also engraved with the Hibben Knives logo his signature and "LA GRANGE KY". For a while United Cutlery made clones but they had "RAMBO III" down the spine.
Anubis, YES, you are CORRECT, the knife in the video is a cheap knock off and that GUY who posted it needs to remove it or UA-cam needs to step up to the plate and remove a DEFAMATORY video. HOWEVER, you are NOT correct concerning Gil's handmade Rambo III knives...the original Handmade "Limited Edition" was 350 HANDMADE knives, made by Gil Hibben starting in 1988 under license from the film company, Carolco. And they WERE marked "RAMBO III" inside of the guard and came with COA's provided by the film company. Many years later, in 2018 we did a handmade ""30th Anniversary" Edition of only 100 knives, and they were marked "RIII" inside of the guard (all were sold). We recently did an "Author's Edition" with David Morell, writer, creator and father of Rambo, of only 50 Handmade knives...we have a few left for sale on our website www.hibbenknives.com
That's gonna hurt alot of folk with Hibben knives,,,but should save them money on ER and Doctor bills,,,Thanks I always wondered what it looked like under those handles,,and I must admit I once thought about buying that one and the smaller one as a set,,,but always read a review that focused on the tang,,,but seeing is believing,,,👍✌
If I was forced to use a pos like that I think I would drill the handle about an inch from the hilt, pin it and epoxy the entire handle! This should guarantee it won’t come apart. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t break on a hard impact.
I have a Bowie knife over $450.00 and I wouldn't use it for clearing brush or batoning logs for firewood . I would use a Maul or Axe or Hatchet . For close up and personal conflicts I know my knife is ready for action and will get the job done . God forbid me getting in a situation like that ! Clearing brush I would use my Machete . Yes I have cheap crappy knives too . 😊
I have the gel hibben fighting bowie knife and it's one solid peace of metal with handles and was going to get another knife by them ie the jungle survive bowie knife but that also has a bolt at the end of the blade. Not so sure now. Hate rats tail blades as they are shit. You have saved me £104 . Thank you.
You should do a little research before you start trashing a great knife maker. You bought some cheap flea market crap and think it’s a real Gill Hibben. You are not an authority on anything, but you are pretty good at slander….
Next time, show us a Gil Hibben knife...
that doesnt look like a gil hibben one
@@darrellslover6834 It's definitely not. It's an el cheapo piece of junk replica somebody sold at a flea market and this poor guy uses it to critique Gil Hibben knives. Pretty cringe. Seems to have quite a bit of trouble operating a pair of pliers in the video so I'm questioning his ability to judge the knifemaking ability of legendary custom knifemakers.
what you meant to say is never use a master cutlery knife! this is just a replica knife and it's definitly not made by the great gil hibben...
It's all about the construction. Master makes one of the best full-tang chopper knives out, with 440C steel - look up the Raptor. Nice Micarta handle, too. Yes, Master has a lot of junk... but every so often they throw in some quality models.
Master cutlery and United cutlery both have the tang. Knives made in Gil Hibben classes have the same tang.
Wisconsin edge ...Yeah that’s it! MASTER CUTLERY
I've never sharpened it in the 10 years I had it
Sip in other words uppity don't hardly use it as a knife, aka a tool
Well said my friend. This guy is a freaking jerk
Lol savage🤣
I have used some of my Bowies for machetes and light hatchets , but both are well made from reputable manufacturers ...
A western W49
And a tramontina 10" bowie
The actual real Rambo 3 is full tang. And Hibben had nothing to do with either of the first blood knives btw those were done by Jimmy lile and Stallone himself
🤣
❤☠❤
You're an idiot and I haven't even watched the video yet.
31 years ago I bought a knife from Gil Hibbon himself and it has never ever failed me.
Well anybody that uses a pair of pliers instead of a wrench or socket doesn't know shit about knives i'm just saying

Patrick Sira nail it !
This is a United Cutlery knife designed by Hibben.
Go buy the authentic hand-made one by Gil Hibben and make another video.
Those cost like $5,000 now, the Rambo one , I don't think he has the money for that
I disagree , my friend. I sincerely hope he DOESN'T make another video. About anything.
*Your next Video: Why you should never use a "Mercedes Benz" ;)*
*And in this Video you show us a PLAYMOBIL-Car ;)*

Yeah seems like using pliers, critiquing knives, and making videos ("I'm not sure if you can see this", "I'm not sure if this is showing up" repeatedly), is just not his cup of tea. Plus the tiny detail of that not being a Gil Hibben knife. Altogether pretty cringe.
You should be prosecuted for bad advertisement
The Hibbens should sue him for Slander, Defamation of character,, with the Intent of Malice to Gil Hibben's reputation.!

Who uses rusty pliers to turn a bolt?
69xoni lol I was thinking the same thing. Use a proper wrench spanner for goodness sake!

Thank you! You can still get a REAL handmade Hibben "Rambo III" knife made in Gil Hbben's shop for $1850.00.
You should never use a pair of pliers on it unless it’s the only thing you have and you can’t wait
So using a fighting knife as a machete and getting mad because it didn't hold up. God forbid if you use a lawn mower as a chain saw
You got a flea market bootleg .duh
Wicked looking blade and handle. Had mine since 1990. Just a show piece and also a Black Jack Mamba. Which is the real deal. Tops Knives are awesome. TOPS Steel Eagle107C Delta Class. TOPS TEX Creek XL
More than twice the amount of dislikes than likes. The knife community has spoken!
Gil Hibben, has done the knives for RAMBO 4 and finally (hopefully not the last) RAMBO 5 Which is called,
RAMBO LAST BLOOD. Hope this helps.
Your spot on about 3 and 4 But Dietmar pohl made the last blood knives didn't he?
I love my Hibben Tundra. Great knife, razor sharp and although I have other knives I would choose for heavy duty work I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Hey if you don't want it I'll take it
Jimmy Lyle designed the original First Blood knife. He made/designed a few hollow handle knives, along with several movie/stage knives.
Actually Gil Hibben is also made in china 😂, however they are quality knives and that is not a Gil Hibben.
Good heads up to look at the construction but your knife is 30 years old. How do you know all his new knives are made the same way?
That is NOT a handmade Hibben Knife!! It is not even a United Cutlery "licensed reproduction"!! Linda Hibben
@@lindahibben6718 I have 5 hibben knives and love them all. I have not taken them apart though.

Maybe next time, don't use a movie prop knife to hack down bushes. I certainly don't use a screwdriver to open my beer...
Reminds me of the survival knife they sold in the comics for just 19.95. As for the knife you presented, it needs to show you using this knife and failing the test you gave it. 😮
Yeah, I'm not a big Hibben fan but I'm pretty certain that's not an authentic one. That's a Pakistan special.
Thank you! Linda Hibben
I own a few Gil Hibben knives. These are Chinese knock off pieces of junk. I've been collecting knives since 1963 when I was eight years old. I have high-end Rocksteads down to flea market junk.
That's not a Gil hibbens where is the engraving
You bought it from a fleamarket..
You could perhaps sand clean the handle components and then glue them all back together using epoxy resin. Just an idea
then hang it on the wall
Agreed not an actual gil knife thats a chinese knock off......
Thank you for your honest response to this Clown!!
(nothing wrong with it)
Lastly I do agree with you that all those Chines copies are junk (99%) and people should be warned about them 100% true.
SENGVIN having the name on it doesn't mean anything Chinese companies sometimes clone down to the paper work on cloned customs
Simmilar construction have many other knives, some expensive ones as well as the San Mai Cold steel Natchez and Laredo.
For such a heavy knife having a parcial tang is just madness.
why dont these manufactueres just make a full tang??? is it really that much more cost effective not to??
Can't take advice about tools like a knife from a guy that doesn't even own a socket set.
My Dad bought me one, when they first came out, in 1980 something.
The blade chips very easily.
I love my BK-7.
the original rambo knife from both first blood and firstblood part 2 was made by Jimmy Lile not Gil Hibben
Yes The Movie Knive. But That "Original" and That Anglos Arms are made by Machines from the Mission from a other boss.
You weren’t strong enough to tear it up--I’m sure you tried.
The title of the video is misleading. You should change the title to
"Why Not to Buy and Use Fake Gil Hibbon Knives"
It's a United Cutlery one made in China so yeah not made by Hibben...
Peace
How do we feel about Gibbens throwing knives? They make pretty much every every ‘Top #’ list online.
Except it's not a Hibben knife. It's fake.
That’s what happens to a knife when you leave it in your garage for 30 years
To make the blade safer to use, you could aways drill a hole through the handle and tang and epoxy on the handle and pin it.
If I was forced to use a pos like that I think I would drill the handle about an inch from the hilt, pin it and epoxy the entire handle! This should guarantee it won’t come apart. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t break on a hard impact.
G. Hibben did not design the first blood movie knife, it was the great jimmy Lile knife maker! Hibben design that thing for the crappy Rambo III.
Where can I buy one of those knives at?
I have a Bowie knife over $450.00 and I wouldn't use it for clearing brush or batoning logs for firewood . I would use a Maul or Axe or Hatchet . For close up and personal conflicts I know my knife is ready for action and will get the job done . God forbid me getting in a situation like that ! Clearing brush I would use my Machete . Yes I have cheap crappy knives too . 😊
Jimmy Lile designed the first 2 knives. And original Lile knives are awesome.
I own several Gil Hibben knives .They are all very high quality.
I have the gel hibben fighting bowie knife and it's one solid peace of metal with handles
and was going to get another knife by them ie the jungle survive bowie knife but that also has a bolt at the end of the blade. Not so sure now. Hate rats tail blades as they are shit. You have saved me £104 . Thank you.
That's why it is better to have a peened pommel end ,not a threaded one with a nut. Peened you have to have a full tang.
Use the proper wrench. Not pliers!
You should do a little research before you start trashing a great knife maker. You bought some cheap flea market crap and think it’s a real Gill Hibben. You are not an authority on anything, but you are pretty good at slander….
Thank you, and you are 100% Correct! Linda Hibben
