I wish bass was a more appreciated instrument. I remember going to my older brothers first gig to watch him play, and after the show another guy who had a gig there came up to him and said anyone can play bass and it doesn’t require talent. My brother and the guy made a bet that whoever got the most votes from the crowd after each one showed their talent. Let’s just say me and my bro where a whole lot smugger and $100 richer after.
senseislayer thank you! It simply came down to not wanting to pay for a different one haha. I am looking into 5 strings now. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Sophie Abrams I have two, an Ibanez SR305 which is super easy to play and a very low action straight out of the box but my favourite is a Marcus Miller V3 jazz bass but make sure you get the second generation version. It’s a great bass with an 18 volt pre amp so lots of head room. I just spent a whole morning at “Andertons” and they let me just keep playing stuff till I was happy. Totally recommend the Sire range. Good luck and put a posting on with what you decide! And remember...... Good Bass Players stay out of treble! 👍😉
I love it when I see other girls who play bass and who enjoy rock as much as I do! You also played so many of the songs I’ve been learning so that’s awesome:) I’m roughly 3 months in now and I can’t wait to keep on playing :D Keep up the good work!! 🤘🏼😜
Omg same. I’ve played for a little over a year. Haven’t had much practice time though cause I play other instruments. But I absolutely adore my bass. I play jazz and some classic rock. On just a standard bass. 🙂
I see a lot of people are saying “I’ve been playing for a month and I’m not as good” or something around that , it depends how much per day also , someone that’s been playing guitar for 20 yearscould be worse than someone who’s put in work like 1 year ( more than picking it up for five minutes a day and putting it down )
I'm starting next month with my first instrument ever, HB PB-20 SBK bass, and I am 46 years old. Hope to become a half good as u are... Nice work, stay safe and greetz from 🇩🇪 Sry 4 my bad English 😂

Saw this video when I was searching for bass videos to share with a friend who is learning bass. It caught my eye because I have that same bass but with some thick flatwounds on it (the roundwounds on yours actually make me kinda nostalgic.) I got it for my birthday since it was the cheapest bass on Amazon and due to the fact that I neglected the manual, it took me like one or two years to realize that the tiny little knob on the bottom wasn’t actually a volume knob, but a boost knob. I just wanted to play bass because I discovered Gorillaz and liked Murdoc, but playing bass and doing music is a really big part of my life now. Sorry for the life story on an ancient video, but I think that these kinds of stories are interesting and worth sharing. Keep on playing!!
Ahhh this is cool quq. I’ve been thinking about playing bass/electric guitar ALOT in the last few days. I prob will end up, but I wanna ask someone at school ab if they teach/where to get a good one. They play guitar and bass I know QWQ. I hope I can get good like this!
Good Job! I've started playing Bass on Nov 18, I like your progress Keep it up, I hope I can make a progress video because I've only recorded the full songs

@Sophie Abrams could you forgive me if I give you some advice for the future (something I think you have plenty! haha)? I think it is something important that I forgot sometimes when I was starting my path in music. its this: aways prepare yourself the best way possible before a show, learn well the songs, try to learn not only your part, but other parts too (the drums will helpyou A LOT, and the melody is mandatory!) be productive in the rehearsals, because when youre in the stage youll be capable to smile and have a shit-ton of fun! music is fun! good luck!

I see a lot of people start a song and give up instantly cause they think they can't do it learn small parts of the song and then put them together, also don't go trying to learn like purity or something as your first song go fo like smells like teen spirit. Finally remember you can use both finger and pick technique don't be one of those people who hate one of them :)

Hey! Congrats and goodluck! I was mostly self taught, but eventually saw a teacher for music theory and applying it to bass. My biggest suggestion is to use online resources, especially UA-cam, to learn songs and keep it fun! Next biggest suggestion is to join a band. Even if you’re new, learning tons of songs and playing in a group is motivating and will expose you to so much different music :)
Did you learn notes and arpeggios before you started learning songs? How much did you practice per day ? Im a beginner bassplayer myself and i would love to know :)
Impressive progress. Did you take any lessons or go through any online courses? Or did you just learn songs that you liked and try to learn along the way?
kevin perry for the first 3 months I worked on my own and learned a lot of songs. I eventually joined a program called School of Rock. This allowed me to work with a band, learning more cover songs, and have a 45 minute lesson each week to work on the songs, theory, and a little bit of technique. Thank you!
Pipo Parra Hi, thank you! So I tried to familiarize myself with the basics of technique in order to prevent bad habits. Then, I used UA-cam and tabs to learn song after song. Along the way if I found certain areas of my playing that were lacking (such as speed, muting, left hand finger control), then I would search for exercises to try and practice. Goodluck!
TenPavel it would vary a lot in the beginning. But I would play everyday. Sometimes 30 mins....sometimes 3 hours. Depends on my motivation! Just get out there and play :)
