  • Paul Pigat getting acquainted with the Elektra Amplifiers 'The 185' in Will's livingroom.

As we were setting up to get Paul to play some demos with the amp, he dove on the amp to familiarize himself with it. Since the mics weren't in place yet, we couldn't use the material for the demos.
But the result is beautiful nevertheless as it shows the artist exploring, connecting and then soaring off completely inspired on an impromptu rendition of the 'Dead Man' sound track.

Even when Paul's having a conversation his noodling is still 34958 times better than I'll ever be.
Also, really loving the tones. I think the lack of bass is more due to the recording quality than the amp itself.

Love when he kicks into Neil Young's guitar solos from the movie "Dead Man". Very cool.

I've got that same Beatles' LP. I think it's a Dutch greatest hits compilation. Bought mine around 1977 or so, still got it. I remember you can hear Ringo's count in on All My Loving!
Oh yeah, the amp sounds very good. Would just wish for more bottom end.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Yeah, Paul plays circles around all of us!:)
The audio isn't stellar here - I'd just set up the Nikon DSLR and that's what you're hearing (internal cam mic). One thing is for sure - in reality this amp has no lack of low-end! :)
Be sure to check out this utube vid of that same session: here the amp is close-mic'ed with a MXL V67 large-diaphragm mic.

what are the specs of model of that guitar... country gent but you actually cut out the f holes?

    • @Gretschme
      @Gretschme  10 років тому

The guitar is a ca 1980 Southern Belle. Specs are identical to the late 70s Country Gent, but when Chet Atkins left Gretsch, Gretsch could no longer use the name Country Gentleman.
      Specs:
      - 17" hollow body with open F-holes and waffle bracing
      - 25.5" scale length
      - 70s blacktop filtertrons (although this one has a TVJ Supertron in the neck and a TVJ Classic in the bridge).
Bridge and tuners are hard to tell - this particular guitar was one of he left-over stock when Gretsch closed production in Mexico. It came to the Netherlands in 2006 without hardware. The previous owner even had to drill the holes in the top for the controls.
He also mounted a Bigsby B6C and found that he had to reset the neck to get enough break-angle over the bridge. The original would have had a B12 with tension bar.
