Depends what kind of music you listen to. If you listen to Bach or Mozart it uplifts you. There have been people who have come to believe in God through great music. Keller says that music is an expression of the nafs: one could say that about poetry too (and many other art forms). Gregorian chant does not glorify the nafs, nor does Renaissance polyphony.
+Fulzar Ahmed My friend, dont worry, all the Darwishes that composed music pray their salah, and live a life to cometo the point attested with this Hadith: "When a servant of Mine approches Me through the meduim of that which I like best, out of what I have declared obligatory for him, and continues to advance towards Me through optional prayers (Nawafil), then I begin to love him. When I make him My beloved, I become his ears to hear, and his eyes to see and his hands to grasp, and his feet to walk. When he asks Me, I grant him and when he seeks My protection I protect him. (Bukhari) (Hadith Qudsi). "
