That really is incredible! A saw shark rostrum! Such a wild find!and it's really special that you found it and to be able to turn it into something that is so rarely ever found. The cartilage fossilized and that is so rare! You really have been having great luck with these rare finds! Wow! Don't stop now! Thanks Morne!
2:31 that... i know it may not compare with some other pieces you've found, because you've found some doozies out there, but at least to me, this is the most important find you've shown. Indeed, all the gubins are rare. And it's a stunning specimen. What a find!!!
That's a pretty spectacular fossil, man! Such a rare specimen too! I remember watching the video in which you found this - it was a really confounding fossil back then. Really cool that you've made such progress with it since that time. It does look like it'll be very difficult to prep, though, it being stuck in such hard rock and the cartilage being cracked like that... That is, I presume you'll continue working on it, right? Anyway, keep up the good work!
I'm going to keep working on it, I want to expose at least 1 of the large teeth 😁It's very tricky as I want to preserve any denticles I come across as well
Yeah, I can imagine. Would it work to cover the cracks between the denticles with wax, I wonder? Or would the acid simply cut out the area underneath in that case?
What an awesome fossil. I was wondering how you get your fossils scanned so easily. Is it just local connections? The museum I volunteer with in the US can’t handle get anything CT scanned.
Lower jaw of a young tooth whale is my guess it's cool to know what the bone cluster is are you going to fully prepare it? Thank you for sharing this six stars brother
Hey mate! Im just getting into fossil preparation and have a dremel at the moment. Would love to work on some fossils similar to what you find. Close to me is just brittle shale fish fossils. Would you be willing to sell a unprepared crab fossil nodule? If so how much would something like that run me? Keep up the good work love the channel!
Sorry, I don't send fossils out of New Zealand. Are you using the dremel engraver? The rotary tool doesn't work for fossil prep but the Dremel 290 does work.
@@MamlamboFossils No worries it was worth asking. I am using a dremel 920 engraver. I got the 3 piece set of tips from zoicpaleotech and they work like a charm. Currently working on a needle fish preserved in shale.
You are so lucky to have a place to find so many fossils. I would be having a blast looking for them if I lived around there. I found some fern fossils by me that are in sandstone they are hard to get out without breaking though. And the coal mines dig up a lot of shells coral and stuff like that around here as well.
@@MamlamboFossils it's hard finding any actual animals around here. I did find two trilobites though. There's more ice age animals than anything dont think we have any dinosaur bones sadly. Luckily I have found a horse tooth a piece of mammoth tusk and a bison leg bone though.
@@MamlamboFossilsI was thinking lower mandible but the serrations don't look like traditional tooth structure. I was wondering if it was actually avian?
In that case I will say a pterodactyl mandible. They have teeth and they would be considered avian, I think....??? But is this a local fossil?@@MamlamboFossils

I think its very unique!
Another fantastic find! You have a good eye spotting them.
My guess is a palegornithidae lower jaw. That would be an amazing find to have found a toothed bird jaw!
Pseudodontornis stirtoni is from motunau beach so maybe that genus?
That's a great guess!
@@tixonite5394 Ahhhh bird ?!? I really wasn't on that track !
My complements! I found your channel a few weeks ago and it’s a pleasure to watch! Hope you’re around for a long time to come.
Thanks so much Wayne! I'm glad you are enjoying the content!
Congratulations great find
Thanks!!
Looks like a pelagornithid (pseudo-toothed bird) jaw. Can't wait to find out.
Great guess!
Awesome find! 😮
That will be tough to prep! Know you can figure it out 😊
It's a very tricky prep for sure!
Have you thought about a mixed-prep? Like uncovering the main focus...then supporting other pieces like they do in a museum with wire ect
That is one hell of a find.
This is your best one yet! Love your content btw
Yay! Thank you!
4:17 - Could swear that it was the jaw of my mother in law, but she is alive.
😂
MWAHAHAHA 😂 ROFL!
Mate thats a good point, i kinda forgot that cartilage doesnt fossilise.
It's quite rare!
Very nice, im excited to see the rest of the teeth inside
man what a great find keep these coming my kids love them and my oldest has picked up a kiwi accent 😂
Oh no 😂 That's awesome, I'm glad they're enjoying the videos!
Very difficult prep
Incredible!
The first thing that comes to my mind regarding that beak is Pelagornis.
Oooh great guess!

It's quite unique!
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
I love solving mysteries!
It's the best!!
Congrats on this super find, will you expose more of it eventually? My guess on the future prep is a Pelargornis lower rostrum
Great guess! Yeah I will be prepping more of it!
I have an Australian Saw Tooth I bought up at Cairns years ago, amazing creatures
Very interesting find 👍
Thanks!
This is very cool, do you have plans to continue work on the rostrum fossil? Chance to get another CT after more prep to see how much is in there?
I'll prep it some more, the current CT scan is enough to see what else is in there, it's nice and clear
Looks like you have a Pliosaurus mandible, and it also looks like MY jaw has just dropped.
Nice!! Hope you're doing well! Mandible is close, but a bit younger
I am doing well, thank you, and I take great pleasure in how well you have done with your channel. Cheers. @@MamlamboFossils

Your next prep looks like Barracuda lower jaws.
You're close with jaws!
@@MamlamboFossils lol So not Barracuda. I still think I type of fish jaws. It doesn't appear to be reptile. Can I get a clue like the age?
@@shellmeyoursiii9380 Miocene I would say!
I’m just taking a shot in the dark and saying some sort of alligator or crocodile?
Not a reptile 😁
Lower mandible of a juvenile cetacean perhaps something akin to a sperm whale.
You have the most amazingly cool hobby/past time.
It's a mandible but not cetacean this time
2nd guess for the print is Pelagornis chilensis
I guess youre working on a cetacean jaw.
It's a jaw of some kind!
My guess : micrognathic mandible of a plesiosaur .

Do you have to tiptoe around the cartilage with the air scribe or is the cartilage as hard as the teeth?
I have to be very careful around it, it's sooo delicate!
What tool do you use to uncover the fossils? I need one sooo bad!
It's called an air scribe. The dremel 290 is a good starting piece of kit

Ichthyosauria?
