My great granddad was a World War I veteran, he died when I was about five years old, but all my aunts and uncles tell this story. It was 1918 and they were moving their artillery up towards the front line during the battle of Saint-Mihiel, when they started getting strafed by German fighters. Granddad said that they had told all of them that
"if you get strafed don't run away from the incoming plane, but to run left or right of it."
Well that had slipped his mind as he was getting shot at so he took off, running, directly away from the aircraft, getting shot at the entire way. After running for a few seconds, he saw a big ditch which he jumped in for cover. After the plane had flown over him, and he regained his composure, he realized he had jumped into a latrine and was knee-deep in what he called "Bosch sh!t”

I love hearing old stories. You don’t hear too many stories like these anymore. Families just don’t take the time to sit at the table to just talk and share memories. I hope these memories get passed down to the next generation. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas.

Really enjoyed the video guys. Our older folks are quickly disappearing as well as their life’s stories. Now we are becoming the old timers of the families and we should be making a impact on the younger ones as well. I’ll tell you, families are not as tight as they once was. It’s up to us to keep these traditions going so one day we can pass the torch along. Merry Christmas to you and your families and remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. See you on down the trail. 🎄

Thanks for sharing. Almost feel like part of the family now hearing it. I’m lucky to still have my great grandfather, he’ll be 105 in January. He served in WWII as well but wasn’t as much of a luger collector lol. Merry Christmas, happy new year to all of you from 11bangbang.

Merry Christmas, enjoy old war stories, I remember my dad and uncles sitting around telling their WW ll stories, they were different branches of service and different theaters of service Europe or pacific, and my brother home from Vietnam, I miss those times, I wonder if that helped them mentally by talking about some of their experiences. God Bless ya'll, Happy new year also.

Merry Christmas to you guys and your families! You’re lucky to have all those war stories. My grandfather and all my great uncles fought in WW2. None of them enjoyed it. The only story ever told by my grandfather was about cutting gold teeth out of the mouths of dead Japanese soldiers. He brought home a 45 automatic after the war but he gave it to his nephew. None of them would talk about the war. My grandfather was a heavy drinker when he came home from Okinawa.

Something to learn from a man who could feed and protect his family with a shotgun that wouldn't get a second glance in a rack of today's "have to have to get the job done" guns. Love the stories. Trust in God, keep your power dry. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas. My grandmom lost a brother, Great Uncle Stacey, at Anzio. My Grandad's brother, Great Uncle Elmo, was one of the infantryman that helped clear the way for Patton's tanks during the relief of Bastogne. Uncle Elmo was later wounded and captured (in Germany) towards the end of the war. He was with the Germans for about two weeks, they were on the run from the advancing American army. His German captors traveled by night and hid out from the allied fighter planes during the day, he was rescued from his captors by some American M.P.s. The M.P.s took him to a field hospital, from there they loaded him onto a C-47 and flew him to France. Soon after landing in France, he was then put on another plane and flown to England. He was in England for a short time before they put him on a ship that was headed for the good old U S of A. While on his way back home, the war in Europe ended. Thank you for sharing your family history with us.

I was able to search back 240 years of online records about my family tree, based directly from the stories I heard from my Grandmother while growing up.
Im the only one that listened to her. The first time I ever bought a computer, 2011. I not only confirmed her words but was able to find out even more.
Many people today dont even know the names of their grandparents

I know I am a little late. Please forgive me. I've been with family. I however, consider you guys a part of my family, because your family reminds me of my own. The side of my family closest to your family originated in Texas and settled in Arkansas. Hill folks we are. Merry Christmas from our family to yours. P.S. the only story I have of a relative in WWII is not a good one, however, my geometry teacher in Jr. High school was a B-17 pilot. He told us of how he experienced two V-2 two rockets that hit London. He told us other stories but that one stood out.

Being in my 70s I was privileged to hear "war stories" at family gatherings from veterans of both world wars and even one who was a veteran of the boer war. I do remember the main topic being being who had it tougher the ww1 vets or ww2 vets, much respect.
Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to all of the Woods clan from one of your limey subscribers.
