- I'm glad you stopped by! In an eco-friendly time, we are learning to be conscious of what we use and what we waste. You may want to consider starting here, where bacteria like E.Coli, salmonella, yeast and mold love to collect; your sponge! Watch this tutorial to see how I tried 3 different sets of materials to come up with my ideal reusable sponge in an effect to go a bit more green and a bit more sanitized!
You will learn how to sew reusable sponge as well as reusable towels; just incase the supermarkets run out of paper towels again during our health pandemic. : )

I love the reusable dish scrubber.
I started making sponges using 4 layers of polyester batting cause thats how I LEARNED but OMG! I never thought to use the nu-foam and I have SOOOO MUCH NU-FOAM from making outdoor bench cushions! Holy crap thank you for this. Now I can use my nu-foam scrap peices! And everytime you said dogfeeds I'm like FEED DOGS! 😂 my sons like she can't hear you mom!
I love theese they would make cute perfect table mats on my table
New viewer. New to sewing. Liked and subscribed! Thanks for explaining the WHYS! So much easier to learn, for me, when I understand why I am doing something. I retain more. I have attempted 2 practice sponges. Haha… if you could only see them. 😂. Glad I am using old 9” fat quarters in flannel left over from another project before using any of my new, better fabrics. I’m finding the nufoam difficult to work with, my foot wants to dig in and get caught up and I can’t get a nice close due to the bulk. I will keep working. Hints welcome!
I like the idea of using tulle and doubling/folding it. And you are right about the foam as well. Great video. Thank you so much.
I have used tulle and doubled it. I agree with you!
Great tutorial! I always put any dishcloth in the washer every day . No stinky cloths !
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I hope this video will reach more people so we can contribute no matter how little or how big to saving the environment 😊
Every little bit helps! Thank you so much!
I love watching your tutorials, and I don’t even have my sewing machine yet 😂 getting one for Christmas and I’m gonna make so many of your tutorials!
Yay! Thank you! That makes me smile! I promise you can do this!!!!
Thank you for this great idea. So earth friendly!!
This is such a great idea! And thank you so much for testing so many different materials for the best thing to use. Love your vids.
Thank you, Nikki. Absolutely love you & your video. Easy to follow … great tutorial!
Thanks for sharing. This is a very nice and easy project. Great gift ideas.
..using old towels to make the kitchen towels is a much better option whether giving them or not.. 😀
Ew!
Making then or now, this was still a great tutorial Nikki and honestly these sponges look great because i currently launder TOO MANY "un-cute reusable towels" currently, that tossing one of those in diswasher might help cut down 😊
I LOVE this idea!! This is the first tutorial I've seen for the reusable sponge. Well done!!
I just finished making several snack bags. Thank you so for your video. I am watching your video on the kitchen sponge. You are great 👍
You are so welcome!
Scrabble queen. Love your word wall
HUGE Scrabble competition in this household!!!!! We love Scrabble! : )

Thank you so much for this video, I have been looking for something like this.
You're very welcome!
Your voice sounds like home, I miss it. 🥺
Also thanks for this - I just bought a sewing machine and am looking for my first project, adding these to the list!
I love your personality and awesome ideas. I am going to try it out!
Newbie here & loving ur channel! Tks for sharing these projects with me 🙂
Love your background and thank you for this video its very helpful
You are so welcome! Thank you so much. I hope you watch other tutorials!
You really have some really great ideas! Thank you.
Thank you!
I just found your channel!!! I am hooked you're wonderful and I want to send a great big thank you!
Yay! Thank you! I appreciate this so much!
Love this idea. Thanks for doing all the R and D for us. Did you think of making an envelope slip cover out of the tulle, and you could just slip the fabric/sponge inside as needed. 😊
I did not. After using it several times, I just decided to purchase a sink clip from the Dollar Tree where it could air dry. I prefer that..... :)
Great ideas! Thank you
Glad you like them!
Great video
New here and I love how you explain everything. New like and subscriber. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for subbing! I am glad you were able to find my explanations useful! Some people love all the explanations or hate them... no in between. : ) : ) I like to tell you the how and the why so that you learn!
Nikki, Thank you for sharing your talent. What size needle did you use to sew the un sponge? Your nails look pretty.
Hi!. Thxs. : )
I use a 90/100 needle. You want to use one that can go through multiple layers. Denim needles are good for that because of its thickness.
What size is the sponge fabrics? Did I miss it? Ty❤
Love this thank you
Your hands and nails are gorgeous! You should be a hand model. As for sewing, I’m brand new- what does sewing on 3.0 mean?
Yikes! I am just seeing this! Not sure why ..... Thank you!!! Sewing on 3.0 means the stitching on your machine... or if you do not have an electric one, turn your stitch length to 3.0. It means the size of each stitch..... it also leaves a certain amount of space between each stitch. There is stitch length and distance....
Thank u very much ĥow lovely I am sure if I get the foam sponge
New to your channel. What size needle are you using for this project? Thank you for the video. Great job. 😊
great job!
hello where did you purchase the foam? what excatly was it called? also is all tule equal i have some and it seems so thin. i am wondering about using a mesh laundry bag ( its new so okay for gift giving) how to you think that would hold up
Thanks for the tutorial! What size did you cut your fabrics for the sponge with the NuFoam?
Thanks! That thumbs up lol
I’ve just found your channel by searching for this project. This is a great tutorial. I will be checking out the rest of your channel. Are you able to explain about the settings of 3.0 and .5 for distance? I know it has to do with tension but, I don’t know what each number means. For example, when you say .5 for distance is this the length of the stitches? If so, what is the 3.0?
Thank you for the great tutorial!! I can't wait to get started....What size holes is in the tulle you used? they seem large compared to the regular tulle used for wedding favors or ballet tutus. Thank you
I think it all depends on where you purchase your tulle. To be honest, I don't know the size. You are correct that they are larger than what is used in tutus... there were several sizes at my store. I wanted the larger holes, like the one I used, because it allowed for seeing the fabric underneath, as well as to provide scrubbing space. The other tulles' holes were so close together for the intended project.
Very cute
Thank you! Cheers!
Hello. Love your video. Where did you buy your foam? Is it called new foam?
Sorry, to bother you but, where did you get the foam? 🙏🏻💜
I have the same question! ☺️
I got it from Joann's.... when it is 40% off. : )
I was wondering if you have washed the sponge you made. If so, did you just put it in the dishwasher or in the washing machine with other laundry?
Hello. I have placed it on the top rack of the dishwasher because the water is extremely hot, and that will help sanitize BUT I have also placed it in the washer machine - using hot water - with only kitchen fabric items. I never mix laundry. : )
Hi thanks so much for making yet another awesome, informative video! What is the thickness of the Nufoam you used ? Thanks!
Will " Poly Foam " work the same as nufoam. As I can't find locally ? Please let me know asap.
Your nails are so pretty 😀. Your hands are beautiful 😃. Love the Visio, have you thought of hand modeling? I think you have two collings 😎
Not yet! Oh please! I get stabbed with needles and poke myself very often! My daughter is a nail tech; just started doing nails herself (Concrete Jungle Beauty, on IG) but she lives so many miles from me. : ( If I had her close by she would keep nails looking good. One day I will put out a blooper video and you won't think I have good looking hands!! : ) : )
I stand by my statement . I think your nails and hands are beautiful 😎
Where do you get that foam for the sponge?? Ty
I got it from Joann's. Be sure to use a coupon!
Hi, sorry if I missed it somewhere but what size are the materials/fabrics for the sponges? Just ordered the nufoam from Joanns with the 40%. Thanks
You can make them whatever size you want but I usually do 5x6.
Ah! I was spelling it wrong. I found some at Joann’s. 😊
Around how much would it cost me to make two of theese sponges
tku for this video…where did u get the new foam?
What is the measurements for the paper towels? Love your videos! Okay
You can measure a paper towel yourself, based upon what you like, and add 1/2' seam allowance. I use 2 different sizes...........
You have a list off all the supplies you use there
Doesn’t the terrycloth get into your machine and clog it up would flannel work too
No. If that happens to your machine, sew with the terry cloth on top, to go directly under your foot instead of against the dog feeds. I clean my bobbin area out often and don't let the fibers build up. I have never used flannel so I cannot give you any advice on this, I'm sorry! : )
Could you use a fat quarter for this project?
You can, yes. If you have paper towels at home - attempting to go green, measure them! : ) A fat quarter is 18 x 21. Go for it!
Do I see in the background that your name is Dominique? My daughter, also! People are always asking how I got Nikki from Dominique.
: ( No... I had to think for a moment because I haven't seen this video in a long time. It just says UNIQUE ... for sewing unique items. :)
Where can I find new foam?
I purchase mine at Joann's using their 40% off coupon - or when it is on sale.
Where can one get this 'new foam'? I'm very interested in making these!
Have you made it yet? I purchase the nufoam from Joann's; only when it's 40% off! : )
@@SewnByNikki I haven't made it yet, but I really wanted to!
Its raw edges for me tho
I use paper towels to drain greasy fried foods or my hamburger meat.... I wouldn't want to 7se these for that but its a good idea...
Where oh where did you find that bread fabric? Also where do you find the foam you put inside the sponge 🧽
Isn't that bread fabric awesome!! I found it at a quilting shop that was going out of business! They had premium cottons and a week before I found that shop,, during quarantine, I swore I was not going to buy any fabric because I have tons that I haven't used yet. That didn't work. That shop was addictive!! The NuFoam are from Joann's. Hobby Lobby and Walmart sells it as well. Those are the places close to me.
@@SewnByNikki I can’t help myself either when it comes to fabric. When it’s on sale you have to get it!!thank you
Where did you buy the new foam?
I purchased it at Joann's. Be sure to use a coupon on the app! : )
Hello
What are the measurements?
For which? You can make the sponge whatever size and shape you'd like. For the unpaper towels, I measured my last paper towel off the rack that I replaced with these.
I love those dishwashing cloth. Where can I get this foam?
What kind of thread do you recommend fir this project 🤔
I use 100% cotton thread. I would use a denim needle, however. (If you are doing the sponges.) The needle helps to sew through multiple layers if your machine can't handle them.
Where do you get the new foam?
I get mine at Joann's with a coupon however I know they sell it at Walmart as well.
From where we purched this
It is very useful.Ilike this
Hey no need to reply to my question I got that’s it 1” sorry!
I throw my sponges in the dishwasher.
Yes, I do as well - on the top shelf!
Does anybody know where we can find 1 inch nufoam?
Hobby Lobby and Joann stores sell it. I am also sure you can find it at Walmart... I cannot recall.
@@SewnByNikki thank you!
Joann, Walmart, and Michaels
Thank you!
