STOP Using AI for your vinyl record eBay listings

- AI has come along way, but it's still a ways off for helping you write your ebay descriptions and certainly for helping you grade records. Here, I'll share my thoughts and give you a live example of using eBay's AI-assisted listing tool.

If you're new to my channel, what you can expect from me is a vinyl collector's approach to the jazz genre. For years, I've only collected vintage pressings and prioritized originals of Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Bethlehem, Riverside, New Jazz, and more classic labels. Lately, with the resurgence of the medium and more collectors coming to the space, the music industry has taken notice and prioritized putting out high quality reissues of some of the best albums ever recorded. Subscribe to my channel to watch me navigate how to rationalize how I used to buy vs. how I buy vinyl records today.

God I hate AI
OMG! AI totally nailed your authorial voice! You’ll never have to write another album review again. Haha. Seriously though, thank you for the heads up and (adding to the) reassuring proof that wordsmiths of all styles and genres have a while longer. The second part of your video was especially revealing. I’m using AI quite often in the hope that it will save me time in the research process, but in 9 out of 10 cases I have to realize that that the current models remain, it seems, in their infancy; the data they provide is the opposite of what eBay and co. claim it to be: “More Accurate.” In my current experience, even if eBay sellers would feed all the word-perfect, precise and flawless data in their listing process, or if it would be extracted from somewhere else, say Wikipedia, the AI generated outcome would still be loose and inaccurate. And to be fair, as you also pointed out, the vast majority of sellers do not only use stock images but usually grade with “VG to VG+++” which basically means they haven’t even looked at the record let alone play-grade it or anything like that. At least that’s common practice for most sellers here in Germany, while the exceptions are truly exceptional and the reason for me still using eBay occasionally.
schoolkids! love it
People should stop using AI for ALL eBay descriptions. They’re full of generic unhelpful BS
Agreed, these AI listing descriptions are terrible. I cringe whenever I see one and it immediately diminishes my confidence in the seller.
I'm getting responses from sellers that are clearly written by AI. Not helpful.
This won't ever go away, it is unreasonable to ask for this. AI is on the rise and people are lazy.
I just want a description of the item and if it’s from a smoke free home. All the rest is BS.
I had no interest in that Three Sounds record on eBay until I was assured it would transport me to another era 😂
"Hello seller, I have to return this record because you told me I would physically be transported through space and time and that didn't happen"
When will we realise that ARTIFICIAL intelligence isn't a substitute (and never will be a substitute) for REAL intelligence.
Hi Chris, I would like to put you on to an album I find very enjoyable. It is Anita O’Day swings Cole Porter with Billy May V-2118. Hope you give it a listen. Best wishes
THANK YOU for bring this my attention! I've gotten burned by eBay in the past. Now this is something else to look out for.
I have noticed that too and my feeling is that if you’re that lazy to use an AI description I will not bother with you as a seller. It’s not that hard to write a succinct description that gives prospective buyers the info they need to know in determining whether to bid on or buy your record; and the beauty is that once you do it, you can adapt that description to all other listings.
Many of the YT ads during your video are powered by AI voices, pathetic, but unfortunately will improve quite quickly
Thanks for video. I was just looking at a listing for the new Jack White album and sure enough it's in "excellent shape". Even more to your point - the vinyl is "white". It is not white.
Yes! I detest it when sellers use the AI ebay function. I actually don't even buy a record if the listing is AI.
We should be cautious of any sales pitch, be it Artificial Intelligence or Real Intelligence generated. AI can be used to create any sales pitch and that is as old as the hills. People need to learn personal responsibility, or in other words, take ownership of their actions.
The AI has obviously not heard of the UK sale of goods act, basically AI is saying sue me as so incorrect
The transcription of this video will be used for training in the next version of OpenAI 🤯
Haha and don’t forget what was used to create the title card
AI has figured out that every single record on earth is VG+.
@@johng.4711 haha apparently so
AI. LMAO 🤣
As someone who regularly sells records online, yes. Especially if they’re not sealed, there needs to not only be description, but adequate photographs. Especially if you’re charging more than $20 for something.
As a buyer, I’ve had the experience of buying vintage records, from reputable sellers, that were far from the grading listed in the description, and only two photographs, with only half the record visible.
I told AI to write me a comment in reply to this video and it said "Fascinating video! It's impressive to see how AI is transforming the way eBay descriptions are generated. The potential for more accurate and engaging product listings is huge. Can’t wait to see how this technology evolves and improves the shopping experience!"
