Place for ‘Declarative knowledge’ in contemporary word Dear Ma’am, I just watched seventh lecture and found it interesting and informative. I would like to share my comments about mitigated place of declarative knowledge in modern times. There was a time when learning timetables till twenty were considered inevitable for multiplication and division. Now a days it seems to me waste of time and energize, as calculators are cheap and easily accessible because of mobile phones. Many information that were considered essential like learning the names of all 206 world states and their capitals is no more required. When browsers can direct you to the latest and the most authentic information, you just need to know reliable sources and browsing skills as you mentioned in your lecture. Although cutting edge technology has undermined the role of declarative information in my opinion there are still certain disciplines that require declarative knowledge in limited scope. It is disheartening to know that majority of our public schools are still practicing obsolete methods. In context of Pakistani schools public sectors teachers and learners both not only require proper training but the failure of learners to learn and teachers to teach must be taken seriously. General decadence in our society should not be completely considered because of extreme poverty, insufficient economic means, corruption and fragile democracy. It is said when there is a will there is a way as a nation we need to believe in our will to get for ourselves and provide to our students the best possible education.
