- This is a Slovak Armed Forces 24 Hour MRE - it's acronym: PODAP actually stands for "Emergency Food Ration" in translation. Sparing no nutritional value to the food - there are very few empty sugar calories in this MRE. Very wholesome and natural ingredients and recipes. This rare, interesting, and unusual Military Ration was sent in by Curahee off MREinfo - thanks so much, Marek - this really was an awesome experience!

These comments are so pure and positive. It's so refreshing.
Kay D. Steve brings out the best in all of us.
Kaylyn Dotson they're quite nice
It's got positive undertones.
Nice!
nice
"I'm still happy...no matter what." For some reason that just stopped me dead in my tracks. Wholesome stuff man.
Remember friends, even if things aren't perfect, they can still be nice.
*Steve picks up a dead snake* "No hiss"
iliveonjupiter I giggled reading this. NICE! Thanks 😅
iliveonjupiter 😂😂😂😂😂😂
iliveonjupiter haha 😂😂😂😂😂 nice!

iliveonjupiter picks up a live baby snake......"thats a nice little hiss"
Man i just really love this guy. I always come home after work, grab something to eat and watch him either enjoy a ration, or suffer through unimaginable pain.
A can lid in the first can, and a can opener in a can in the last video... It's Tinception.
I sort of made a screeching noise when you didn't add water to the rice
I thought the same. The way it looked- it needed water. Oh well
Screee
add water to the rice on the cover it said dehydrate grain
As a regular rice-eater, that bit pained me so much.
"It looks like an easy spread. That's always nice."
Lmfao
Amen
You should have added water to that second main
TheDogeThatCriedWolfy yup
a little bit of water that is what i kept saying to myself.
"hey mom! i just trim my beard like Steve1989. how do i look?" - "NICE"
"Nice hiss"

“You look like Steve Rogers in Infinity War.”
*Camera shows Steve's face*
_Nice._
With the rice, I would have thought a little added water probably would have helpedit cook/heat up better. And likely make the food more easily edible.

would love to see anything pertaining to your vids, steve. top ten youtube channel brother keep it up. where are you from man, just curious?
Thanks Steve! Really appreciate all your effort that goes behind these videos.
Always pumped to watch them.
As a Louisianian I find myself duty-bound to let you know for the most part the sausage is pronounced "on-dew-ee"
you dude your happiness is beautiful there is not so many like people like us who enjoys little things keep it up you inspire me to start collecting or eat mre
with my regards from Turkey
flatbread's there because in the Eastern parts of Europe and i presume most of the Slav countries you eat almost every meal with bread, soups/broth's, stews/casseroles. Most of the savory dishes.
"but uh... it gets the job done" * takes bite of flatbread and nods head* xD
I kept yelling at him "put some water in the rice and take off one of the fuel bars dude!!!!!"
congrats on the 1 mil Steve
Slovakian Frodo: What food have we got left?
Slovakian Sam: Crisp bread. And look! More crisp bread.
imaging Steve working at a convenience store? "have a NICE day!" "soda from the soda fountain, cool, nice hiss, that'd be $1.10."
How funny would it be if every time Steve opened a can, there was just another smaller can inside of it 😂😅😂😅 "oh look, another can... Nice!"
Hmm...no coffee, no desserts, no real tea, no utensils, no sweets, no gum, no toilet paper, no regular drinks, no chocolate bars, no fruit bars, no soup...I can't imagine that Slovak soldiers would be too happy with this MRE. Maybe it lacks all of these because it is actually an emergency ration, like being used by civilians in a natural disaster, just to dole out calories.
Sar Jim Or if it's like we have in Finland, we don't mainly use rations, we have our own mess kits and most of the time eat food that the logistics platoon cooks in field kitchens
Sar Jim I can't imagine why they would include a heater but no utensils
dan Because they are issued messkits
I don't know who dan is but even militaries where soldiers are expected to use mess kit utensils include antibacterial wipes to clean up after a meal. Saves half your troops being down with diarrhea just before the big attack.
Could be but all rations like this are issued for when you'd be away from a field kitchen. This just doesn't look like a typical military ration. It looks more like the UN humanitarian rations that have been reviewed earlier. No frills. just vitamins and calories.
I am getting hungry watching this video. I was in Slovakia in 2005 when I went on leave from my deployment in Iraq. I was in Sturovo, right across the Danube river. I went from Romania, through Hungary and ended up in Sturovo. I sampled the local food (had Hungarian Goulash in Hungary), but never got the opportunity to check out the military MREs.

"yeah, that's lit"
hearing Steve use "lit" in the literal sense threw me off for a second lol.
Steve could start an MRE restaurant just because of how good and wholesome he makes these sound
Kapustnica is what you enjoyed so much for the MRE
Add some water to the chicken and rice main in the canteen cup. Disperses the heat and helps prevent burning.
HEY.....that's pretty..NICE!
When you are slowly revealing yourself as the second coming of Christ
I love your vids, man!
Quite sure you're supposed to add water to the can of chicken and rice. It will become soupy. I mean that's what you do with any rice dish when heating it up. Rice soaks up all water as it sits, you cannot heat it without water.
Anyway, I would happily go for a Slovakian MRE now, it made me salivate.
I love watching Steve eat weird stuff way too much lol
The last meal you had is called "bigos" in Poland and is very popular for Christmas along with other celebrations.
This guy is like the Bob Ross of food.
A little water added to that dry rice might have helped with heating it up...🤔
Looking extra stoned at the end
He was high on MRE
Maybe that's why he likes this canned stuff so much?
....lol cmon we love Steve he can burn all he wants!
😂😂😂
You could have tried adding water to the thick rice entree in the mess cup so it would soften up and the heat would be more evenly distributed.
this is the most wholesome, accepting channel and community I have ever seen.
Man I love your channel Steve! Alright, cool.
Man, I'm Hungarian but this hit me right in the nostalgia. Haven't seen those drink tablets since I was like 8.
Love the handy little stove. Works quickly
"Let's paint paint some nice little hisses "
I think that to myself every time he opens a can
Well portrade will illustrated. Looks delicious
@ 1:41 there's an orbs floating probably the ghost of the former owner of that ration lol
i from slovakia best video
sk,cz dajte like:D
I think I'd have added water to the lunch main.
Cabbage sausage and potatoes was the breakfast, soup was lunch, and the rice one was dinner
I wonder if Steve says "nice hiss" everytime he opens the gas can for his lawnmower or opens a pop? 😂
Keegan Johnson lol
Are you a Midwesterner?
Slavs doing it the right way ;)
I thought for sure this one would have cigs in it!!!
Jason Eddy why
Lol dont be crazy... For czechoslovaks it's too expensive
Yep thats right, way too expensive
If it comes with cigs, does he light up and sample them as well?
@@wperdew6078 yes he does
When I was a kid in the 60s we had Fizzies aka effervescent drink tabs.
15:06.....POUR SOME DAGGONE WATER IN IT, STEVE!
I love you steve but that rice entree just really needed you to add some water to it! :)
I think the can lid in the accessory can was meant to let you reseal the chicken liver so you could put it on the crisp bread later on
I know this video is over a year old, but I've always wondered why you just didn't add a little bit of water to the mess cup and kind of steamed that main warm since it was so dry.
probably should have thrown some water in the chicken and rice and you would have been able to heat it proper...love your vids man
NO HISS

14:10 You sir, are the true soldier. That looks like frozen vomit.
Mr. Steve has the best comment section on youtube
I have a request . can you show me ow a water purification tablet works ?
Dragonoo1990 kinda like the drink tablets in this video. You just plop em in ur water and theyll dissolve and kill bacteria in dirty water.
have to add water to the rice.
If you add some water to it, hope this message travels back through time to you Steve
Man, that looks good. That patte looks insane.
Steve add some water into the rice, then mix in the crisp bread to make a Hobo Pot meal
Plus I suspect that in field use the can opening to eat some of the rice first and then stir it in the can, BEFORE you try and heat it
You can always mix the vitamin drink with the tea. And that rice and chicken might have been a better if you had added a little water. It would have created steam and heated better. I was really wanting some of that chicken liver pat'e. Oh yumm! And that cabbage and sausage looked delicious. I need to make that!
Put some water in with the rice and chicken. Heat until the water is gone. The water protects the food and distributes heat.
Anyone else yelling at Steve to "ADD WATER TO THE DRY RICE DISH!!!" while he is in the process of trying to heat it on a direct flame??? C'mon man.
Yeah me
I am glad you liked the cabbage with with sausage, but I would consider Russian or Czech ration little bit better in versatility what it offers. Great channel by the way because comparing military rations is like a comparing food and culture behind it. Great idea!
Maybe adding some water in with the lunch course would have helped it cook better.
Very nice how Steve seems to read all the worlds' languages easily :-)
they had no spoons in that? the fuk?
1v9GOAT they probably have their own mess kit?
1v9GOAT they probably carry a small mess kit with a fork spoon and knife in it on them the us did it up until a little after Vietnam if I remember correctly
1v9GOAT Eat with your hands, you animal 😂
First, I am from Slovakia and I am surprised just how... Slovak... the whole ration is. The drink tablets? Those can be bought in any shop, exactly the same packaging, the same protective cap, a bit bigger(I guess they are 15 tablet pack in stores). The food that you got was pretty much your regular school/army/socialist factory canteen type of food. The crispbread can also be found in pretty much any shop. I can pretty much go to any shop and buy like 50% of this ration. Its also surprising that our guys are still running around with cans like its 1980s.
Regarding the crispbread ratio. Its because usually, bread is eaten as a side to cabbage and bean soup. So one pack for cabbage, one pack for soup and one pack for liver pate. I mean, you dont have to, but thats my guess of what was the logic of packing 3 packs of bread.
Always love reading the stories from commenters on these vids. Awesome window into life in another country.
Nice!
Can you get those sweet can opener/holder things at a store?
@@Colddirector Yes We can, in other shops with kitchen utensils
@@82dorrin It's one of the most fun parts of these videos!
*Slavic Frodo and Sam*
"What have we got to eat?"
"Well, lovely...Crisp bread. And look! -more crisp bread."
Eh, again Lembas :)
You forgot to mention the crisp bread.
And no second breakfast.
Well... In all honesty? Theres an "ancient" slavic (or at least czech of that I am certain as I am one) tradition of giving guests loaf of bread and salt. Usually to travelers. So it fits quite well. :D
you know what i like about you, steve? you appreciate little things like cool can openers
it really is a cool can opener... i mean... beats the heck out of the ones GI's used to get back in the day
Lee Buckley Seriously! That's a real deal can opener like I'd find in my grandmothers house. I like the old P-38 for its small size. It gets the job done. Also, easy to keep on a dog tag style necklace. But this is a sturdy, overbuilt can opener. I'd like to try one.
Cmon guys, its just a can opener.

when you're a millionaire uploading videos once a month, its easy to be happy while filming
Daniel M theres also plenty of millionaires that kill themselves.. how u explain that?
nice
A little water in your rice while heating would've taken you a long way.
Was looking for this comment, since I thought the same thing.
Exactly, pretty much every time you reheat rice, water is added.
It would have been
NICE!
I would`ve maybe thrown the can in a hot water bath
Break off a chunk of the tea tablet with the nice can opener and make a broth.
Steve knows every language, can taste vitamin B, and throws a tantrum when there's no hiss.
he is more powerful than any mortal could ever be

Riboflavin has a very strong odor/flavor as well as dark red color. I hate the smell but some people like it, it's smells like extremely meaty and volatile
Everyone can taste vitamin b
You should just be a ration consultant for armies. Like the Gordon Ramsey of rations.
Daxaaar The Bot WHERE IS THE GODDAMN HISS?!
IT'S FUCKING RANCID!!
*nice* finally, some good fucking food
But Steve likes everything
Yeah, our troops would be getting ancient hardtack and entrees that smell questionable but are technically edible.

NICE!
Hi Steve! Slovak guy here. Biggest problem with these PODAPs is no variety, thay are all more or less the same. Every PODAP version has pate, some soup, some rice with meat, some potatoes with meat and same bread and tablet drinks. Soldiers are fed up with these rations in days. We call that bread "polystyrene" :) Sorry for my english and great video as always!
Ján Čarnogurský Uh.. your English is amazing. Probably better then mine. Did I use the right your?
nekocal you did, but not the right "than"
Hi guys, Czech here. From what I've seen, so far only 2 rations had that "křehký plátek" shitty bread - Czech and Slovak LOL. I hate it and it's a shame that we are giving this to our soldiers.
Clarissa Liem In Canada, then...
what do you mean, your sentence read very well. I would even say it read very,,,,,,,, nice!!!!
"Hey man I got a new cat but he's kind of aggressive"

Steve, you needed to add some water to the rice before warming it.
He probably has enough water purification tablets to last the rest of his life.
Napoleon the Comedian He should dump them in the sea and we would have clean seas LOL
Nico Stenfors Now i'm really curious as to what a water purification tablet can kill.
if you put enough it will kill anyone. But it tastes like bleach smells. (They are chlorine) so you couldn't get away with it.
Who else says "nice" along with Steve when he says "let's get this out onto a tray, Nice!"

Probably one of the Steve's all time best videos.. interesting unique foods, drinks, got the open flame and stove use, which I love for some reason. Old school style cans. Definitely one of my favorites! Just missing desserts..
Me too. Such positive energy. I am envious of Steves attitude! He just ROCKS!!

Hey Steve, hi from Slovakia! :)
You're right, the cabbage with sausage is a traditional meal.
I love your videos, so relaxing. A NICE way to calm down in the evening :)
Just one remark. I noticed you said "Slavic". Well, there is a difference between Slavic and Slovak. Slavic refers to all Slavic nations (Slovakia, Czech Rep, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, etc, etc.), while Slovak refers to Slovakia only.
Looking forward to more videos!
Oh hey I learned something in a UA-cam comment section nice but I wonder why the distinction between the Slavic nations and Slovakia
@@mr.wonderfulwisdomouswonde2991 hi. Well, as I explained above. "Slavic nations" is an entire group of nations. "Slovakia" is one of them. It's a specific country.
We can say "Slovakia is one country in the group of Slavic nations".
It's similar to saying "Texas is one state in the group of American states".
Slovak and Slavic are cognates. Both come from Proto-Slavic word "Slověninъ".
