Just wanna pop in and say it’s ok to take meds if you need them. Your Avenue of treatment isn’t any less than and you aren’t wrong or broken for not being able to achieve homeostasis within your body with “natural remedies”.
I know your intention probably wasn’t to put down medication but I just wanted to put that out there. As a person who previously had a lot of internalized stigma around Meds, I went to therapy for several years without making enough progress with my anxiety and depression and was so set on not using “artificial” things in my healing. I’ve been on an ssri for 1 year now and cannot believe the relief I could’ve experienced long ago.
Meds aren’t necessary for everyone but for some they are a life saver- literally. ❤️❤️❤️

This!! Medications are designed to assist with/replace what your body is in need of and there is nothing wrong with taking them - whether it be because there are no other options, they work better than a diet/lifestyle change, you don't want to or are unable to adjust your lifestyle/diet to supplement the need for medication, etc.
There is no shame in taking medication! Not to mention, "natural remedies" are still supplementation and are altering your body function just as medication would. If you are able and willing to find other avenues then more power to you, but medication is a perfectly good option for you if you need it!
(I also don't think Sam was bashing the choice to be medicated, more so saying that it is her personal choice to try other avenues, but if anyone else is struggling with this decision just know its your personal choice but there is nothing wrong with either choice!! :) do what is best for you!)

Totally agree and wasn’t trying to put down medication at all! I just personally like to get to the root of things and try to find natural alternatives first and use medication as a back up, when possible. But of course I’m speaking for simple, non life threatening things, because I know sometimes the root of the issue does require medication. Minor example: if I have a headache, instead of immediately going for the Advil or whatever, I’m like “hmmm maybe I didn’t drink enough water today, maybe it’s because I haven’t had dinner yet” etc. I know the issues I have currently aren’t life threatening (thank god) so if there’s a way I can naturally heal myself through lifestyle changes, I would rather do that ❤️

Yes i totally agree! Two stylists were nice until they ruined my hair when over bleaching it... and weren't nice about it when i pointed it out. And that in turn made me go elsewhere. Everyone messes up, that's inevitable but taking that and owning it is what made me go back to my natural color. Thanks for being honest with your clients!! I know as a client, it takes a lot and its appreciated :)

As someone with hyperthyroidism I would recommend you get your levels checked. Hyperthyroidism never goes away and lifelong medication is just the treatment. Hyperthyroidism can cause weight gain and inability to lose weight easily, depression, fatigue, join pain etc. I feel like maybe your doctors didn’t explain it very well but I would at least check back on it.

    • @styledbysamvay
      @styledbysamvay  3 роки тому +9

I appreciate the concern :) I’m aware of that, but my levels to begin with were just slightly off, and my doctor told me the medication was optional because of that. Most hormone imbalances can be regulated naturally, and that’s my intention. If I notice any of those symptoms return, I definitely will get everything checked out, but I don’t want to rely on medication if it’s not necessary. That’s just what feels right for me though, and of course I’m not giving medical advice to anyone, just sharing my personal experience since I was asked.

@Little Aussie Girl correct you’re right . It does go away . I have hyperthyroidism it’s mild so not severe . I’m getting my blood levels checked to see if it went away . Yes it can come back but that’s why you see a specialist . So I totally agree with you . My specialist told me it will go away just need to be on medication .

Per usual I just have to say I love your longer vlogs! The question about staying in your hometown was so relatable. I studied and worked in Manila from 2010-19 and moved back home to the province when I started freelance. I tell myself I'm doing okay, I earn good money working from home full-time, but I sometimes miss the city and living on my own and find myself comparing myself to my friends and former colleagues in the city.

I wanted to put this out there for you or anyone else who struggles with anxiety and/or depression. I have tried every anti depressant you can think of over the last 10 yes and nothing worked AT ALL. Felt no change. Drs acted like I was lying. About 6 months ago I finally got a dr who decided to give me a gene test which showed that my brain works differently and the typical meds like Prozac and all similar anti depressants just can't physically get to the part of my brain that needs it. So he put me on limotragene(sp?) And for the for the first time in my life I dont have anxiety attacks everyday. I still do once a month or something and my personality isn't different. Im not groggy. I just feel "normal" so anyone who has struggle with that, ask about getting a gene test to tell you exactly what your body needs. 🙂

I unexpectedly lost my mom three months ago, and her being the only family I had, it devastated me so I started therapy. I never thought it would be such an important thing; I now think everyone could benefit from therapy, whether they have gone through something like loss, or just because.

I was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism this year. Being on medication helped, but your doctor may suggest a permanent solution such as taking radioactive iodine or getting a thyroidectomy.
The diagnosis answers a lot of unexplained changes or lack thereof, that are currently happening within your body. Luckily, my thyroid levels returned to normal after taking Tapazole and Propanolol for several months. I go for another blood test next month to see if it's finally gone! There is a chance it can come back after going into remission.

We don't crate our dog for long lengths of time either, even though she's an adult. If she's not coming somewhere with us or all of us are out of the house for more than a few hours and none of us can take her, we close off the kitchen and dining area, put her water and food bowl in the section of the house that's "hers" and the cats, and call a pet sitter to check on them twice a day minimum. Training her into loving the crate and also not to need it for behavior and safety was one of the best things we did.

Speaking as someone who has PCOS, it isn't curable. You can definitely manage it with diet and exercise (I do, mostly because I can't take birth control) but the symptoms never truly go away and you really have to stick with the healthy living.

I totally get the thyroid struggle. I have been hypothyroid since I was 12. But after I had my daughter, my hormones went all over the place. It was too high and then too low and up and down and I was constantly getting bloodwork. But I also had undiagnosed depression and in the past, when I was feeling down, I'd get my thyroid checked and my levels were off. So, when my doctor was like 'no, you're fine" i got super frustrated! She put me on some depression meds and they help a lot but now i'm in that same situation where when I feel 'down' or have symptoms that overlap it's hard to know what's causing what LOL

Ok all my friends moved to cool states and cities and I’m stuck in my town. I llobe going to visit cities, I fantasize about living in a big city, but I also like that small town vibe and yes I run into people I know, and yes I get FOMO. But, I also save a lot of money living in a simple town and I plan to just vacation to where my friends are rn.
Everyone goes thru this! You’re doing well for yourself so just keep it up!! I bet people you know might be looking at you thinking “gee she’s doing great for herself, saving money, and I’m still throwing my money to rent to pay someone else’s mortgage in this expensive ass city”
