Yo-- that home-made applicator looks like it works REALLY well.
It does! It’s awesome and simple to make
Great advice with the DIY cup & glove combo, I'll definitely be doing this!
Lol, it spreads the flock out! My son walked into the room while watching this video and he thought it said the f word! LOL.
Lol no I didn’t say the Flock word!
Thank you for this! Im using this technique for flocking my walls for a flocked vintage wallpaper look!
Meet the Flockers... thanks for sharing your methods, appreciate it!
Best ive seen on how to use flocking. Tysm for this tutorial 👌👌👌
Great tutorial! Thank you.
I had never heard of this, and was looking for felting options. Thanks for the easy to follow vid man.
Love it! Legit!
Nice work Ben. I need to start doing this to some of my turned boxes. it gives a great finish.
+David Crandell Hi David yes it's super easy too!
This works incredibly well
Very informative Ben, that is exactly what I wanted to do, flock plywood.
Great idea with the cups. You saved me the $8 cost for the applicator. And I think you need one for each color. Good Video.
Thanks Ralph! :)
I agree! Such a useful video, you didn't just show flocking, you showed a great way to apply the flocking much less expensively. Years ago, I bought multiple colors but flocking tubes were so expensive, that I could only get 1...now, I can use a different setup for each color (I have at least 6 colors, it's been years since I did anything with it). I make all-occasion greeting cards and only need a little flocking for each one, as all my cards are unique, and no two are identical. I also use recycled materials to make keepsake containers and I need to line them. This video shows me that it's doable without a huge investment cost. Thank you so very much! Blessings.
You need one for each color?! This is why i'm cheap.
Very good video. Thanks for sharing. I've never flocked till now. But it seems a nice technique.
Thanks Hans
Awesome video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Justin!
Brilliantly clever!
Thanks Mate
“That’s how you flock a piece of wood!” Ha! I love it! It truly is a great way to finish jewelry box interiors and countless other things! I actually think your applicator works better than Flock It’s version! Cheers!
Well flock... what a great flocking idea
FLOCKIN GREAT VID....
Thanks for showing
Genius making the flocker! When I was 19 I had a job flocking wire hangers that were sold to dry cleaners and uniform companies. That’s another very specific use for flock.
Wow I haven’t seen a flocked hanger for years!
Another use: I put flocking in gelatin and silicone special FX makeup prosthetic pieces. Gives the impression of skin with depth.
That’s a cool idea Misha
That’s so cool! I found some flocked 1960s/70s red cocked wire hangers at the thrift store, and they’re my absolute favorite!! Saves space and clothing never slides off!
Hey Ben, great video! Where did you bought the kit?
I would imagine you can do this on both paper and fabric, yes? Thanks!! Great tips!!
You're going to get a lot of flocking jokes
+Mike Franco flocking tell me about it! :)
Get the flock out of here really ?
Amazing! Does flocking work easiest on wood or can you flock on pretty much any surface? (Metal, plastic etc.)
Whoooooooaahhhh.. easy
Flocking me, what a great flocking video
clever sod!
Nice
is this possible to do this in silver and what base type of color i have to use is enamel ok? does the power sticks ? i would like a velvet look on silver
That's crazy creative! Nicely done
That's flocking good
Lol thanks Adrian
Can that glue be used on any surface? Also, how would you handle flocking a curved item, or a hinged item?
It is important to use a quality dust mask when flocking. Airborne particles of this stuff are invisible but will mess up your lungs. Be safe.
Thank you. I didn't know that 😳
Do you think flocking would hold up to the inside of a dice shaking cup?
Get the flock out of here! That was a great video thanks Ben!!!
I've never flocked before. Can I just use a tacky glue to adhere the flocking, or do I need that stuff you use? What's the difference between the two? I'm trying to get a fuzzy feel on some wooden cat ornaments. Thank you 😊
What seems like an aeon ago I worked a place in Brookvale that made really cheap pool tables. We would spray the table and cush's with enamel paint and flock onto that, worked well.
That’s not a bad idea mate 👍
@@BensWorx I should have mentioned that we used to add 10 percent oxidiser to the enamel, any hardener for two pack enamel will work. This kills the smell that enamel gives off as it is drying. I have just tried your applicator and it works a treat, thanks now the cook can have her sifter back.
Yeah that enamel smells awful
Nice))) do you know how to make home made flock?)))
"It evenly spreads the flock out" almost NSFW hahaha
The 2 cups with the glove...great idea
Thanks Mate!
wonder if i could get simm effect on a xmas tree with the snow flock?well ill find out soon enough just ordered a bag to give it a try on a small tree
That’s a good idea
Could you demonstrate applying flock to a figurine? I had a red velvet Jesus piggy-bank statue since childhood that broke this year. Not replaceable (apparent was a rare item 🙄) but looking to replicate it.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
👍👍
Quick question.i tried flocking plastic figuring i used modpodge glue. At first it was really thick but when i got it dried completely and brush the excess flocekd it got really thin and you can still see the plastic part. How do i make it thicker and can i use acrylic paint to glue the flocked? Tyia
Hi Tyia, all you can do is experiment, I’ve always used the flocking glue and had no drama’s
I live in japan and its hard to het american materials but ill try woodglue thankyou
Chabby POPTOKYO you want to look at “static grass” which is called flocking when used in model use
Hi Ben
Is it possible if I use salt shaker instead of plastic glass ?
Hey mate, as long as you can get puffs of air I don’t see why not
That sounds like a great idea. Thanks
Your homemade applicator was genius.
You're a natural engineer.
Can you tell me where I can buy the flocking powder? I've been really wanting to do this but only find tiny little jars of the material.
Where can I find a nice bagful like in your video?
Thanks James, Timbecon sells 450g bags
Of course this was over 2 years ago, Amazon sell all you need of course, and seems to be in most countries
Hi there, thanks for this video, I've been looking for the flocking felt plus the tubes with no success. I've been to Michaels and Hobby Lobby and they don't carry it anymore. I can't believe this is not popular, but maybe thats true I don't really know. I've checked Amazon, Ebay etc and the tubes are a ridiculous price for all that it is comprised of, funny thing is they don't sell the flock....imagine that, thats like buying a car without an engine and wheels, makes no sense to me. Can you advise where to get the Flock? I can do the same as you for the distribution tool..."Flocker". JFYI Amazon was $52.00 Canadian. Outragageous. Thanks for your help. Andrew
Hi Andrew, flock is getting hard to find and I’m not sure why, I picked up a bag from a local wood supply shop in Australia
Try wood working stores such as Rockler or Woodcraft.
Hey I really need help! I flocked a jewelry box and I used PVA glue(dries clear) instead of the paint from Donjer and it came out super patchy. I am giving this gift to a friend on Sunday before she moves. I’m wondering if a spray adhesive (3M Super 77) might work with an extra coat of flicking over top to cover up the patchiness?? I’m flocking our a little bit and I really hope I didn’t just flock this box up 2 flocking days before I am giving it away haha
If you are using black flock I would get some black spray paint and put a thick coat on then flock over it straight away
Thanks for the reply! I actually just sprayed the Super 77 glue on and put another good coat of the flocking on and it seemed to work pretty well. Next time I will definitely use paint, because I have some dark lines from the walnut showing through a little bit lol.
👍
Wow What's the name of the glue
Enough of the flocking jokes, grow up, for flock sakes.😂
😂
How do you colour the glue and what is the ratio? Thank you. Sandra
They sell the different colored glue, not cheap, but works well, buy the same company and type as the flock for it to work well. If in the USA, Woodcraft sell it and Amazon as well of course, what don't they sell
On some level, an improvised tool can be better than the actual thing, because being a self-made thing, you know your tool better
Thnx for the tips! Now im gonna Get the flock outta here
what kind of glue we can use? and anything mix with glue?
Maybe try I contact adhesive
@@BensWorx i asking you, anything mixing with glue?
i want know details.
Nope just flocking glue nothing mixed with glue
love this ingenious plan, unfortunately rubber gloves are probably more expensive than a proper flocking gun right now lol
Lol
Flocked her real good ! but its a big Flockin mess for that lil patch of flock
Can you post a link where you buy your flock powder and undercoat adhesive?
www.cwsonline.com.au/shop/category/-flocking-powder
Ben's Worx Thank you, sir. Keep up the great work!
No worries mate
Hey Ben where did you get the undercoat adhesive from? That website URL you have posted above only has the flocking powder.
It appears they are no longer selling it, i have used enamel paint in the past if your unable to find some
Can you do this on coir doormats?
I don’t think it would last long before it comes off
What the flock?
+Don Vanco hahaha
black to black hard to see wouldn't it be better with green so we can see it ? 🤨but a good idea on the glove
How do you put a logo on the bottom of that flocked board? It needs to be on the bottom of an item - so it doesn't scratch anything.
And I tried s stamp but it's not a clean look... looking for suggestions.
I wonder if you could use a branding iron over the flock??
@@BensWorx Thanks for the idea, we thought of the same thing and going to try it tomorrow. I was hoping to get a different color, so we are going to use a stamp for the glue and then flock over the base flock to see if the logo with the different flock color will take on the logo and brush off the existing base flock. Trial and error.... thanks.
I hope it works out for you Robert
just dump the whole flock material in a box with the thing that youre going to flock, then shake it, much easier and no mess
You had me at plastic cups. I'm cheap.
Wat can jou do with it??
+Sjoerd Goedegebuure its mainly used for the inside of drawers to provide a felt lining, you will see in my next project how it's used effectively
Ben's Worx how do u apply a felt lining
Once the flock is laid down it becomes the felt lining, flock is tiny felt fibers and once put down in bulk it becomes felt
Get the flock out of here!
That is not true flocking... for that you'll need to use current for the electrstatic part, to make all of them to stand up... that is simple powdering...
Can you guide me to webpage that tells how to do that? Would love to make my on velvet blacklight posters!
flock me, what a stupidly simple solution to the air gun.
