- Here we take a look at a DSP Receiver called the SDR 101. Clearly a clone of the brilliant DeepSDR 101.

No one really know whats a clone or not online these days. Cheers for sharing the info. :)
I've been told that certain companies 'clone' their own stuff too and sell them as cheap(er) money makers. Dunno if thats true.
Hi Matt had to smile, I was listening to same conversation on 7.120 where he says reading a book is boring
I have the original, but it is not good. The user interface is hard to use. There is one update of the firmware. It fixes one item, but breaks another. I will never buy another deep product. I wish the source code was available. I think one could at least improve the user interface. It has no NBFM demodulator, so it useless for VHF other than the AM air band. Avoid this. I think SDR for this means Sadly Disappointing Radio.
I have the Deepelec original too. And I totally agree with you. It's very disappointing.
I recently purchased one, and was looking for a manual online; I found the manual for the original of which this is a clone, I have now learned.
LOL yeah, the excessively high gain and pumping AGC can be a maddening feature of an otherwise good radio. I tend to believe many DSP devs have never actually used a "quiet receiver" where the background noise is 20dB or 30dB below the max audio level.
It is a pleasure to tune the bands on such a "quiet receiver" and you know there is too much noise if the environment actually has a floor so loud as to result in a level of -5 or -10 dB below full strength.
It seems to me there are a lot of differences, starting with the difference in the interface, but since the support for this product is questionable, I would not recommend buying it.
Regarding firmware upgrade: I'm not an expert in USB standards, but it seems that the C-socket is only connected to the PCB by the outer two pins in each side, however the eight middle pins are not connected it seems.
On the other hand, the datapins of the USB-A power out port, seems to be connected to the ARM chip, via R30 & R32 - so I'm wondering if it's possible to make a connection via the A-port?
Maybe via some kind of an USB/serial adapter as mentioned in one of the other comments below?
There is a pic of the PCB on Banggood.
As somebody who just ordered this thingy a few days ago, mesmerized by its incredibly low price, I have a question...
Has anybody had any luck asking for a refund? 😂
The Banggood description of this Item keeps saying this SDR can be connected to the PC via the USB port. If it doesn't work, then the product does not comply with its own specifications, and Banggood customer service should be notified & give a refund. But maybe the laws aren't as civilized over there in China as it is here in the EU 🙄
You said there was no way to select the band; the very first option for the encoder knob, called "Channel selection 1-99" turns out to be the band selection.
Hi everyone. Is anyone noticed the little peak runs form left to right at 5:20 and 6:09, and an inclined and dotted line on the waterfall screen. If yes, is there someone that can explain what is that. It's been a long time that I noticed this phenomenon specially from 160m up to 6m...
@5b4aezmarinoscyprus71 It is called "ionosonde", youtube or google search for it, and you will find out what it is!
Whats the difference between this and the Malachite SDR?
It seems to me there are a lot of differences, starting with the interface difference
The main question is WHICH radio's clone is this one?
Well; the Moonraker SDR-3000 🫢
Amazing that for once the wavelength is shown in Metres, not Meters; which in the UK are things you'd expect to find in your utility cupboard.
How long is an original or authentic piece of tech actually around after it hits production. Even beyond that, I just purchased an RSP-1 clone from Amazon because I wanted to checkout the software and GUI that is SDRPlay. I could’ve purchased the original but I have a huge problem for for profit software that “complements” the required hardware. That’s another story. The disturbing thing I came across when I received the SDR receiver, was the apparent Cry for Help or Warning of some kind that was printed in the solder mask on the back of the PCB. I’ve been trying to translate it but not having a lot of luck.
If you have one of these RSP1 clones, have you done a tear down that revealed anything as bizarre. I’d post a picture of it, I just don’t know if that’s allowed in the comments section. Great videos as always, thanks for all the info!
Hello! I bought such a radio, but I don't know how to delete a channel? Or how to overwrite it! Thanks in advance!
Szia ☺️
Damn, I just bought one. I’ll try it out but if I don’t like it it’s going back.
Thanks for the honest review. I will NOT be purchasing one.
Great video. Thanks 🎉
can you make a teardown video? it would be interesting to compare the inside with the inside of the original (I dont have one tho..)
The Clone works the same as the Original. I have the Deepelec 101 original, and it is the same. It is a very disappointing radio. Avoid.
Yes, I have this clone, and I am not satisfied with it.
The sensitivity is nothing, spurios and mirror frequencies, inexplicable clicks and pops and humming sounds, you can forget about the firmware update, it doesn't work. The only thing that works reasonably well is the FM music band, if it is a strong station. Don't buy this thing, in my experience.
It appers to be something with a lot of "cheap" asian radio's. The FM band working just fine but other bands not. Making them not- so- cheap radio's after all. And whats even worse is the amount of ppl telling on youtube that the radio is ok. I bought (as a non- HAM listener) lots of cheap radio's now and the only ones working quite well so far are the Tecsun/Sangean ones. (in the 0 - 100 euro range.) I know the difference between sdr and normal radio's by the way, sort of, but still i've noticed that lots of those cheap radio's (including sdr) are struggling with the other than fm bands. Many of them are of such a low quality that even non HAM listeners can notice. I personally believe that these products are just clickbait products. You buy them, get disapointed, dont want to take the effort of going through a lot of stuff sending them back and get your money back, if you even succeed in that, so they will end up in one of your "might come in handy some day" drawers. While the sellers have your money. And like i said: some youtubers are even helping them with good reviews. I'm glad tech minds over here tells the truth. More ppl should do that, and specially HAM operators, who should know better.
Yep, same story here with me.
the crap is in a drawer here somewhere, maybe I can use the battery for something else. I'm human so I make mistakes.@@Music_Never_Stops
I have the clone. Amazon. I do not use the AGC, it is useless as you stated. Main problem here is the sound quality is complete rubbish. It sounds terrible. I can reduce the gain down to where the signal is correct and it still sounds terrible. WFM and Stereo still sound bad. I thought maybe the internal speaker was blown. I connected an external speaker and it still sounds terrible.
I wonder if they are making a new type to stop the cloning.
No, cause then they can clone the newer version too.
Thanks for the warning.
I like mine works good until I fiddled with it to get used to it
I have it on my utube page mine is the clone like in this one in the video it’s still a good unit
Nice video
Mine gets over loaded like in this video
It works ok for now it will work for me till I get something else
I've got one, and I love it, easy to use, and the price is right, I used to battle with SDR UNO, never again. If it's a clone then it's a clone, I don't care.
overall, malachite clones seem to be hit or miss.
Как прошить?
I wonder if it could be fixed with a good firmware.
No.
You can't 😭
@@RollinJo most if not all of these things are just play stuff. The hardware itself is too limited and lacks too many additional stuff that you can safely say.. Nice to have but not in any way performant
I've already sold it! I prefer to keep my Sangean ats909x 😉
I had the ATS 25max decoder,Kenwood R1000 & Yaesu FRG-7000, and tecsun pla300
Anyway to over write or delete memories on this clone?
I have two that are broken. Does anyone know who cam repair them?
Can it work in GNSS bands? L band
This looks like a badly knobbled and cheaply implemented ripoff of the Malachite / Malahit, with a much reduced frequency coverage. The Malachite is brillinat though, for the money.
Software Dollyfied Radio
Baaaaa Baaaaa 🐑 😂
Clone of a clone ;)
I just bought one off bangood 🤣
original one is just as bad as that one.
