he really shows that he's human like everyone else. he's just got a spectacular talent, but that clearly doesn't invade his idea of being a regular guy
James is such an introvert . He is a deep thinker for sure. Even those less appreciated albums because that I still like so much because it kinda dig into your soul, and it can let you feel vulnerable sometimes, and not just cover youself with more and more layers. I grew up listening to their music, and I still do now with every album that come out, I have. It is a music for the loss soul and you can find the spot that you fit right in. That is why, I am a fan since 92'..ish. through high and low with them. Awesome journey!
Love the analogy of him and Lars both driving the car while Kirk and Rob are happy in the back. When Cliff was with them, the dynamic was different. Cliff wasn’t driving, and he was happy in the back, but he also showed the other guys some amazing scenic routes they never would’ve taken without him. Jason of course had the impossible task of taking over from their brother Cliff, so any scenic suggestions he came up with were usually shut down. Bless all of them, their collective journey and their individual journeys.
Brilliant interview, James is like my father in music and soul.. as a musician myself i can totally related to him especially on deep stuff fucking love this guy so much.
Exactly! We're close to the same age, so "father" isn't quite the word, but James, especially since he's the lyricist, has had a large role in shaping who I am.
James looks very healthy on this interview and speaks pure wisdom and inner peace of himself. i really dig that attitude. he knows now and its great to see him grown up.
kirk hammett not complaining and demanding something more after not having many contributions to their song making only shows how humble he is. Many musicians have left their band because of this issues including sad to say jason Newsted and in megadeth marty friedman.
5:25 When he said my mom, you can see it was hard for him to that. I know how it feels because I lost my mom as well. It can be hard to talk about her at times.
He is very intelligent compared to other metal musicians. He stands out. You can see that mostly in his Lyrics and Interwiews. Followed by personal demons throughout life, as it is the case for most brilliant people.
James gives such a amazing interview....he really thinks out his answers and explains himself so well ..I really like his body language u can feel his sincerity.... And my god he's one of the best people to interview...he really makes the Interviewers feel comfortable..... Thanks James you are amazing person and have helped me in so many ways ❤️🤘
I know that few fans are interested in the personal life of James, but for me the truth is I appreciate James, I know that he has suffered a lot and I pray to God for him, God bless him not as an artist but for the human being that is
God, how much I love this man! Excellent interview, James gives really profund and smart answers. His simplicity and sincerity are just wonderful. And that voice and laughter are mesmerising and so damn sexy!
I love how James handled the torture question. As well as all the political questions. If you know Metallica, you know they aren't (publicly) political. What I wouldn't give to go hunting with him.
People believing pop artists' political views are more important just because they are popular. He nails it right there. That belief is so fucking wrong and that is partly why I hate the likes of Bono and all those activists. This guy right here, that's why he fucking rules. Hail the great James fucking Hetfield.
I don’t think most pop artists believe their political views are more important, they are just self-aware that what they say reaches a lot of people-more than the average person. It’s that way regardless if they want it to be that way. Some choose to use that power for good, like Bono. I never understood the hate he gets. I don’t like U2’s music but I respect that he doesn’t use his fame for just selfish and shallow things, he actually is trying to make the world a better place through humanitarian work and political enlightenment. The problem with James is he’s secretly a bone headed right-wing nationalist. His views are wrong and ignorant and as the spokesperson and lyricist of the band, it wouldn’t work to be political so the others in the band are inclined to be apolitical.
I thought asking him about using their music to "torture" Guantanamo detainees was a stupid question. He has no control over that. Interrogators also used Barney the Dinosaur, so...
Great great interview ! Best part for me: 12:21 - 12:29 (except the Guantanamo subject where he had no idea what he was talking about, he got lost there :-)
The interviewer sure does seem like he sure is trying to elicit a negative reaction from James further into the interview especially talking about “torture.”
James's comment about his childhood religion not having any funerals is really the way it should be. Bury your dead and move on. Sounds cold, but there's no need to draw someone's death out for a week or two with the funeral business. It can cost close to $10,000 to bury someone, if not more. That's just plain greedy. "We're sorry for your loss, but don't mind us as we turn you upsidedown and shake you til your pockets are empty. Thank you! Next!" Hell, I just may write a will of my own stating that I want to be buried the very next day. Don't draw it all out and make the grieving process even worse than it can already be. The most common phrase I've heard from friends and family after suffering the loss of a loved one and burying them two weeks later is, "I'm just glad it's over." I think they mean the whole drawn-out process of burying the deceased. That's just my two cents. 🤷♂️
Yeah losing someone is painful enough that I don't really need some extra paid celebration to mourn and trigger even more pain than I'm capable of dealing with. If I am capable at all.
Think about it, James has Metallica and really very little else. I mean money is made and lost but the relationship of James and his band is tangible and you can hear that through his conviction in everything he talks through.
i am not sure whether he did not understand that these prisoners were deprived of sleep and exposed to their music at harmful volume or whether he actually condoned it. i hope he was just ignorant, but it does not seem that way.
Doesn't matter. These people are terrorists or help terrorists. Whatever it takes to make them cough up information that prevents more death and destruction . Don't waste your sympathy on them.
The journalist kept trying to bait James into taking a political stance, probably so he could decide whether or not to shit on Metallica later in print.
I adore this man. He’s gone through so much darkness, and yet he’s such a Light.
he really shows that he's human like everyone else. he's just got a spectacular talent, but that clearly doesn't invade his idea of being a regular guy
Glad he's not such a dick anymore, although I loved his attitude on stage back then because of it. It made him such a badass!!
He's a light...that nevaaaaa...never warms.
Must know the DARKNESS too truly appreciate the LIGHT.
And I love he so much too .GRATEFULLY .
one of my favorite interviews.. could listen to James talk all day
OMG RIGHT!!!!
Im agree, I love that interview too
Same here wish more people were like him
Will never get bored of James speaking, from talking to his lyrics its just mesmerising

Utube; are you a good person by living waters my guy
And this interview shows how James is one of the best lyricists in history. An artist indeed.
He has such a great speaking voice.

James really does seem like a down to earth dude. Much respect.
Brilliant interview, James is like my father in music and soul.. as a musician myself i can totally related to him especially on deep stuff fucking love this guy so much.
Same here man
me too bro
Exactly! We're close to the same age, so "father" isn't quite the word, but James, especially since he's the lyricist, has had a large role in shaping who I am.
me too i love him a shit ton
"Poor Kirk" pretty much sums up my feelings watching Some Kind of Monster
this is such a calming interview...
I love his deep voice, his laugh, and his honesty. I could, and have, listen to him sing or talk all day long.
James looks very healthy on this interview and speaks pure wisdom and inner peace of himself. i really dig that attitude. he knows now and its great to see him grown up.
Such a pity what happened now...
@@nico.ch029 he's healthy and sober again
Perfect example of money can’t buy everything. James had a hard time like all of us. And I’m sure he still struggles.
Now he is harder than ever
This is one of the best interviews I have ever seen. James' so open
Unfortunately there is New Kind of Monster that James needs to deal with now. Wish him all the best.

This was pure gold. I wish this was a series.
5:25 When he said my mom, you can see it was hard for him to that. I know how it feels because I lost my mom as well. It can be hard to talk about her at times.
He should totally do a TED
i think they only allow leftwing fruitbag type people ..
"exposing your weaknesses is a pretty strong move" hmm. Yes James I agree.
He is very intelligent compared to other metal musicians. He stands out. You can see that mostly in his Lyrics and Interwiews. Followed by personal demons throughout life, as it is the case for most brilliant people.
Most metal musicians are morons. Like mustaine and Hammett. Kerry king is dumb 2
most of metal musicians are intelligent.
For so many reasons the timing of Death Magnetic, the music, lyrics, vocals... was so fkg great. A great Metallica album, meaningful..
I would've named the sequel "The Monster Lives"... 🤘🏼
One of if not the best interview. I liked the guy let him talk and James seems relaxed. Bless him.
I LOVE this man!
Love THAT voice Metallica ever \m/
yyyyyeeeeeeeeaaa

Such a beautiful soul.
New grattitude and new love for life. That's the thing. Love how James listening and sharing each of his inspiration.
I LOVE YOU MR JAMES HETFIELD AND I LOVE YOUR MUSIC, METALLICA, YOU ARE THE BEST.
James is so honest and very polite.
*My idol, I wouldn't be alive right now if it wasn't for Metallica, James Hetfield & Dino Cazares is the reason* *why I picked up the guitar.*
Love this band
There's a wealth of lyrics to a hundred songs from this interview.
“Good thing he stuck through it cause it would have driven me crazy” lol
He never mentioned Jason who put up with exactly that for 14 years.
i've never loved someone i've never met this much. literally like a long lost best friend
Thanks for uploading!
Great interviewer, letting him talk and asking the right questions

I could listen to this man everyday of my life. I Wish my Uncle was around to have listened to this interview, it may have helped battle some Demons.
So handsome
I like his laugh 0:32
He deserves so much more than what he has ❤
Let's sacrifice Harry from 1D and have James live for 100 more more years, such an awesome guy with amazing music, I love Metallica!!

"Wherever passion lies that's the answer.." I'll need to go and process this now. lol
thanks for this video
I don't want it to stop...in otherwords..james isn't a snowflake
Welcome to the path Brother James.
He must have the benediction of tibet monks. Throughout the years he's become a wise man. Tons of respect. 🙏
Purify on loop 24/7 is indeed, torture.
I thought asking him about using their music to "torture" Guantanamo detainees was a stupid question. He has no control over that. Interrogators also used Barney the Dinosaur, so...
His choice of words sounds like that of Brian Griffin.
I luv the Het! 🤘💚
I wish he had more of an evolved point of view on torture. That aside glad he could get sober and keep his band together. Something I couldn't do.
James is the glue that holds metallica together
RESPECT 🤘
Great video 🤘💀👍
I. REALLY. LIKE. METALLICA. BECAUSE. MEATALLICA. IS. A. VERY. VERY COOL. BAND. I. REALLY. WOULD. LIKE. TOO. SEE. METALLICA. IN. CONCERT.

Maybe the most REAL guy in r n r ever. Over the barriers giving good vibes👍
Metallica is the most punk band ever.
He's like a preacher with a really soothing voice I wouldn't be so shocked if he became a pastor at some point
Some kind of darkness

Right on the hammer so true every word he says we fear death so much that we sometimes invite it fuckin Metallica rules

Nice softball question to start out the interview🙄
Who is the interviewer here? Is it a German?
Better late then never...
Yeah, the interviewer is german, 3sat is a german tv channel.
The sequel would be called suicide and redemption (death of the old mind set)
