- I have owned the Cadillac XLR-V for a year and a half. I bought if, but then quickly realized that I didn't know enough about it. It's been a fun time, but also expensive. These cars are very rare, under appreciated, and exciting. If you have any suggestions or questions hit me up!

I am an XLR-V 08er too. Dark Red. 70K mi. and love it, big time. It’s not a hairy-chested screamin’ sports car. It’s a fast, gentlemen’s touring roadster. As the man said, “It’s a Cadillac”. I had a vintage 4-tone Cadillac horn installed and a clear XLR windscreen installed on the deck behind the seats-just to give it another click of razz. Still getting lots of parking lot conversations with it. Parking valets love it.

Your your car is unique as hell built at the same plant in Bowling Green. Someday people will request your presence of this Unicorn. The GM engineers and designers know this👀🤗😤

I worked for GM at the Warren (Michigan) Tech Center for 35 years and remember that the XLR was somewhat controversial internally. Just like the Corvette, there was always another version coming. The XLR-V was even more controversial because it would ultimately have the supercharged Northstar engine. There was an internal tension because the “sacred” Corvette assembly line at Bowling Green would be used to build the car. The fact that it was a Cadillac was an “in your face” element that frankly pissed off the Corvette fanatics.

The Corvette C6 which came out in 2005 used the 2004 Cadillac XLR platform (frame). Corvette also borrowed from the magnetic ride control from XLR.

I've got an '06 V and you're right about the prices of the bespoke parts. Mine has the 2009 rear bumper with the splitter that surrounds the exhaust, and they only made that bumper and its parts for one year. The two mesh inserts that go on either side of the exhaust do not exist as far as I can tell, so custom fabrication was the only way to fill them for the stock look. Even though the prices of the V models have gone through the roof in the last 2 years, insurance companies will still total them out if even a few of the impossible to get parts are damaged. That being said, I love its rarity and the attention it gets. Now that the "V" brand is so much more recognized, people will literally say things like "holy crap that's a V!?" 😂 Also, lol at those Vette guys. I've owned several including Z06s and the Corvette crowd can be a bit much sometimes.

Nice car, thanks for taking the time. In regards to the Northstars, even the later ones have the potential to blow the threads on the block. It's not a bolt, or head gasket issue. It's a block/casting issue. The 00's cars were much improved BUT not fixed. They go much longer than the ones in the 90's did. You will read all kinds of crazy theories on the internet if you search long enough. Most are false.
Any easy way for you to monitor it is when changing your oil, pay attention to the upper oil pan. This engine uses an upper and lower oil pan. The upper oil pan uses about 23 bolts, and this is a common oil leak area. If you start to notice it leaking from here, then the block is likely weakening, and sooner or later it will happen.
Just enjoy the car for what it is, and if the day comes and it blows, literally an LS is a direct bolt in thanks to the Corvette bones. 😉
No way. Don't throw an LS in. Talk about messing up a valuable car. This car will be worth a lot with matching motor etc...... will people ever get that. Same idiots that replaced split window to solid window back in the day.

We had the exact same car in 2008, but with the black interior. No car, but maybe our 1995, red again of course, Jaguar convertible garnered so much attention wherever we went. The Cadillac dealer rolled out the red carpet for you when you went in for service since it was the most expensive Cadillac you could buy, and they covered all the maintenance! Definitely a car we should have kept, but we got a dog and it was not conducive for travel with him.

I owned a Mercedes SL550 that was the competitor of this car. The Mercedes was a beautiful car but I was admired the XLRs.

I was at a Morris Cruise Night in Illinois and saw a 2004 XLR for Sale for $15,000.00 back around 2014 Body was in great shape Milage approximtely 60,000!

WHAT I LEARNED IS THAT Cadillac made similar mistakes with the XLR as Plymouth made with the Prowler. THE IRONY IS, unlike Plymouth, when Cadillac SHOULD have borrowed from the parts ben they didn't. Cadillac SHOULD have borrowed the LS3 Engine from the Corvette C6 and dropped it into the XLR. Plymouth had no choice but to borrow its engine for the Prowler from the Dodge Intrepid, because they were a struggling company short on funds.
Facts
It is a very nice, special car and you should be proud of it. And a for the corvette people that didn't welcome you is their loss. Truth is the quality of your car far exceeds the corvette and i think they don't want the competition. I'm being honest not rude but I don't think you want to be lost in a sea of average corners anyway! Enjoy your car fully you deserve it!
It's the exact same platform, only difference is as per any Cadillac there is a lot more things to break in attempts to have more strange features no one would've asked for. And if it has those obnoxious Cadillac door handles you have to repair every couple years because for some reason we can't just have manual door handles the Corvette wins in the quality department there. But with that said, I don't understand why they'd care enough to not welcome someone thats enthusiastic about the same car with a different body.
Would have loved if just came with a Ls2 like an early c6 and gto. Would have been easy enough to put a lsa supercharger on it later on.
2 Things # 1 every XLR, non-XLR-V I have looked at says "BVLGARI" And # 2 I love the Cadillac and I was going to buy one but I went with the Mercedes Benz SL500 and have zero regrets. Before you buy another car I recommend you take one for a test drive.

my dads 09 Buick Lacrosse Super had the same G Y Y R rear view sensor, it was on the roof and made visible in the rear view mirror. that thing has so many standard features/options compared to my 06 Impala SS, it makes the SS just feel like a taxi in comparison haha

443 HP, not 450. I have the non V 2008, with Bumped V hood and aftermarket mesh grille, Z-06 wheels. So sad that so many parts are unavailable. Shocks, Head and Tail lights, struts, etc. etc.
Wow absolutely the best (or one of the best designs) purely genius automobile from Cadillac other than the Cien or the Sixteen concept honestly! Even the engine compartment looks elegant even with the engine cover,it looks like it's literally on display with this packaging! If your gonna do plastic engine covers Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Lexus at least make it look as if you visually care about styling! I'm just trying to figure out why the headlights & taillights are soooo expensive?? Rarity or just the fact of the technology of the automatic cornering lights?? Beautiful automobile & kinda evolutionary in its own way! Definitely a collector's item👍💯💰

I just picked up an 06 V w/ 32k miles today identical to your old 08 but with the standard Hyper Silver wheels. Your videos gave me some very useful info while I was shopping the cars and I appreciate it.
I’m considering going to look at this car and maybe purchasing it. Anything I should know? The dealer seems pretty clueless… did you give them all the stuff you had? Radio, window sticker, brochure etc.?

Hello! I’m a 21 year old and I have been loooking at a black 2005 xlr with 45k miles for 18k. Is this a good deal? I’ve always wanted somthing different than the masses so I heavily relate to you there😅. How much has yearly maintenance cost you? Is it really expensive? I plan to daily drive this to work (even in winter). Great video as always!
Seems like a good deal. Black is the best color for this car. (my opinion)
It'll get you between 18-22 mpg.
It'll be costly if things break on it. Regular maintenance isn't crazy. Good luck with the purchase/hunt! Appreciate the support.

TOTALLY agree with you my Dude, I always try to be a little different, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how nice/smooth the body lines of the XLR-V are, it's like. a C6 is a VERY Sexy athletic girl, your red XLR-V is like that same girl put on a red dress ;)

It is a copy of a corvette with a different shell on the outside lol. So many similarities.
Does the roof can go on/off while driving?
Never tried it. It's such an intricate system, I wouldn't recommend it.
The car has to be in ‘Park’ before the top will operate. So the answer to your question is, no.

They were kool looking but very poor build quality compared to a SL550, and very slowwww by 2015 standards with no perfirmance upgrades out there and an not so great engine.

OMG what a car and NO SCREENS!!! Tesla garbage doesn't come close!!! Why do Tesla Fans think they own a car, it's an ugly computer with absolutely No Style whatever. Model S Is better but still giant screen. I am so hurt by these beautiful machines being replaced by electric junk! I know cost is extremely high on a car of this caliber but Tesla is an insult to anyone who loves real cars!!!

@@Machinesinmotion01 They have major problems from the factory. You have to do a major rebuild to make them reliable, which isn't worth it. Numerous mechanics say so.
@r0ckworthy this is a rwd version of the Northstar not the fwd versions that had problems in the 90s that was fixed in 2004
North Star V8 no thanks- I’ll stick w my ‘07 Lexus SC430 with a REAL ENGINE lol and a reliable trouble free hardtop. Have fun w that a few yrs from now while the SC will last a life time. Runs like a Swiss watch and like a Japanese samurai sword 🗡 getting sharper with time…
