All the way back in 1993, I went to a store called Fad. They were selling this Topsy Tail and asked me to be the curly hair model for half an hour. I was told that I was ugly when I went to school, so of course I did this because it made me feel special. I walked out of there with a free Topsy Tail and I was so happy. Of course, when I went to school, everybody made fun of my Topsy Tail and I never used it again. I don't think it's so bad for long, straight hair, but it looks ridiculous with corkscrew-curly, shoulder length hair like mine.
The hairstyles they show looked bad, even in 1992. However, if you look at the more modern hairstyles people have come up with using this tool, they are much better. I am terrible with hair and it takes me about 40 minutes to get my daughter's (very thick hair) into even a pony tail. I can't do all the fancy braids that are in style now. And I'm useless with a bun. I tried all kinds of bun makers that you twist the hair around and snap into place and many other bun makers. The only thing I have managed to get close to a decent bun was a method to do a bun using the topsy tail. My daughter ice skates and has started to do competitions and ice shows. Last year one of the groups had to wear a bun, and all I could think of was we would be in big trouble if I had to do a bun! One of my daughter's teams that is performing this year is doing a Synchro skating routine to Sugar Plum Fairy song from the Nutcracker. The coach hasn't told us the hairstyle yet, but I'm anticipating a bun. So I started trying to get it figured out. The topsy tail is the closest I've got to a decent bun so far. And it was fast as well. When I tried it out this first time tonight, I didn't bother with getting the pony tail perfect, I just wanted to see if I could get the topsy tail device to work at all. I will be giving it another try starting out with a better version of the pony tail and seeing if I can get it looking "show ready". Complicating matters for us is that the skaters are not allowed to use bobby pins. For competition, we had one of the high school girls do my daughters hair (and she did a beautiful elaborate braided style) and I paid her. But I need to have at least a couple of fall back hairstyles that I can execute because I don't always want to have to rely on whether or not one of the older girls are able to meet up with us to do hair.
Ahh, the 90s, I wish they never ended. 90s - early 2000s, what a time to be alive.
Ikr!! The 90's and 2000's were awesome times to be a kid
Omgosh right!! I wish I could go back. Lol
That static sound is so deja vu enducing

That's sad. I'm sorry they teased you. :/

Dutch oven
Original Airdate: May 26, 1992 on USA Network
Aw yeah! Can't wait to look like a lost member of the FLDS!
So true, grew up real close to Bountiful.
20 dollars for a plastic loop??
and that was in 1992!
Yep, those were my days.
And nowadays these are $5 or less I just ordered 2 for less than 45 cents on aliexpress the other day
No internet, No walmart, No competition. If you wanted a plastic loop for you hair... then $20. Take it or leave it.
I think it came with a glamour guide :)
I used to have one of these.
All you have to do is part your hair and pull the ponytail through. Hairdresser taught me that in 1996
my mom did flip-throughs all the time without this. I can even do a flip-through French ponytail 0:30 to myself. this gadget was not needed
Too bad that I cant find the glamour guide in 2020...
The ending announcer for Topsy Tail was Vic Caroli.
Whose the woman talking in the commercial?
@@janeporter818 He's wrong, it's Colin Maynard.
That’s a glorified zip tie
$20?!
Where every tiktok creator got their start
We made our own with the handle of a giftbag and some duct tape...screw paying for it lol...ugly ass hairstyle anyway what were we thinking? Lol
That's your opinion, fool.
