  • The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band formed at the end of 1966, but it was not until 1968 that they first burst on to the New Zealand Folk and Country music scene.
They were the first New Zealand group to popularise bluegrass music and were the anchors of the widely enjoyed television show 'The Country Touch' on Saturday evenings, and toured the country and represented country music three times in a national music awards event.
The group toured Australia extensively with Slim Dusty and became the first and only New Zealand group to play the Grand Ole Opry.
The last time the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band performed live in a club was in the early 1970's, however three decades later, the band with four of its founding members still enjoy a special place in Kiwi hearts.
In July 2006 the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band and many years after they became household names throughout New Zealand, they were booked to perform at a Wellington Bluegrass Society concert in Petone and we were there to film them.
