My First Year as a Small Music YouTuber

- What is it like to be a small music creator on UA-cam? In this video, I share my perspective on my first year as a music youtuber.
I started on UA-cam with an ambition to talk philosophy, critical thinking and mental health. But as things progressed, I found myself focusing more and more on the music and editing side of that channel, and not enough on the philosophy part.
It became inevitable, and I had to eventually launch a channel solely dedicated to music, which I did, about a year ago.
For a long time, I tried doing both channels simultaneously, which wasn't made easier by the fact that half of 2022 was spent on the road due to circumstances outside of my control.
With a lot of stress, poor working conditions and an utter lack of available time, I did my best with what I had. But, growth has been slow for me. It's still slow.
And that's one key factor for anyone looking to do this. It's not a quick thing, and you need thick skin and a ton of tenacity. Not everyone can be a success story, but even with the lack of views, I've still found an amazing community of like-minded, kind and interesting people through this. And it's been incredible.

I honestly just like hearing your thoughts. My favourite parts of your videos are when you’re sat in nature chatting to the camera and just being honest and open about your experience. Personally, I think that beats fancy edits and getting all complex because it fosters connection and that’s really what building an audience is all about - connection.
Thank you for sharing that. I will definitely keep that in mind moving forward. My next video is going to be a lot more like that, because it's going to be an update on procrastination.
@@heitstrengningmusic you’re talking my language - procrastination is an old friend of mine 😂 very relatable. Looking forward to it
^This right here^
Dude, randomly came across the channel (algorithm is working). Two thoughts for your consideration. 1. No one is doing philosophy of music - can you make something graat out that those two talents (music and philosophy)? 2. You can chill on the video effects. Rick Beato, Marty Swartz and many other great music UA-camrs add slim to none effects. Find an interesting niche, develop interesting content, present it with good quality audio and video sans effects, and they will come. Advice from a non UA-camr - but i am a geezer and a music fiend. So maybe some cred. 😀
Hi John! Thank you for your thoughts! I appreciate the input and that you took the time to share your thoughts.
I would assume most UA-cam viewers are non UA-camrs anyway so there's definitely cred in your position as that, and as a music fiend haha. I'd like to think I've come some ways since this video, and I've been working on the things you've mentioned. The biggest struggle is by far having enough time between work and family to put out enough quality videos.
I hope your day is going great, and it's always wonderful to see the UA-cam algorithm do its thing (when it works)!
There is a cult following of Scandinavian Metal bands all over the world (and to prove that point, I'm from India obsessed with those bands:), Why don't you make a series explaining the bands, where they are from, their influences and the ecosystem that births these bands . You could also use this as a segue to explain Norse or viking myths and how the bands weave these themes in and the universal appeal. You see, the Metal bands from the US and UK are documented so well. I'm certain there is a huge audience for such a docu-series.
I dont know how advanced the musical skills you possess, you could even do a Rick Beato analysis of these songs, their roots. The theme. The tone. The gear they use.
You'll atleast not be lost out in the huge crowd and you'll have something unique to give the UA-cam world. It will use your teaching skills (you will continue to be a teacher )
So there, thats a thought. Rooting for you
Cheers
Lotsa Love from India
Hanzo! Good to see you again! Hope you're well. Thank you for your input, those are some very interesting ideas! Not sure videos like that would be any quicker to make though haha. But it sounds like a lot of fun! I'll definitely keep it in mind.
Really liked the video and hearing your thoughts! It's been great following you since I've found your channel and seeing your evolution in the video quality and editing. I can't say what would I like to watch, but I feel you've been on a cool path in the last streak of videos. So I would say keep doing what motivates you and excites you, trust your gut and intuition. We're here to follow your path! I am interested in the path, even if you're still figuring out yourself here on UA-cam.
Here's to your second year that will be even better!
Thank you so much. I really appreciate this, and I would really like to continue down the same path, but better, in terms of aesthetics and style, but I really can't spend this amount of time on videos long term. So I need to find some kind of middle way moving forward.
This comment means a lot though, and I'm really happy you're here. I love your wise input and perspective and I'm grateful you're a part of this!
Hope all is well my friend.
I listen to videos more often than not. Like I'll have my earbuds in, click a thumbnail that looks interesting, and put my phone back in my pocket.
My wife does the same thing and obviously some of what I do gets lost that way. But hopefully not too much. Thanks for the comment and the input though. Lots to ponder here. Hope all is well with you!
@@heitstrengningmusic I think I've listened to more of your videos than watched them with my eyes. I like hearing your musing on things while I have a cup of coffee in the morning. Fun and easy content idea would do a 'walk and talk' video and just talk unedited about a topic for 20-30min or so.
@@ghoststalkermusic Ah, I see. That is definitely an idea I would consider. Would make my life easier haha. Thanks a lot for the input my friend!
