I think they mistakenly spliced the videos of two separate performances from the same program together. That was the French countertenor Philippe Jaroussky in an excerpt from Vivaldi's Nisi Dominus. Perhaps the entire performance is elsewhere on UA-cam.

Hai perfettamente ragione !!! More and more often, baroque ensembles try "to do it differently" or to be "the quickest worldwide" just for sake of novelty, and particularly when playing Vivaldi ! French baroque ensembles are particularly dangerous, as soloists are very good in technique, and do whatever they want in order to be unusual....another example is the same "La notte" with Spinosi and Marq (with recorder). Here on youtube too... Funny, as French ensembles, when palying French baroque music, usually respect any minimum "flattement" or "port de voix" written by Couperin, Rameau, Hotteterre etc...

You have missed nothing. This has little to do with Vivaldi, it's a made up addition to an otherwise fine original.

That's a baroque flute or 'traverso'. The model seems to be 'Rottemburgh jr" ...you can google and have access to information and flute makers.

Tecnicamente, il flauto a becco, non il traversiere, consente un buon risultato con una esecuzione più veloce

Pahud plays on a modern, metal flute. This is on a period instrument.
