Trash Wood into CASH! Turning old fence pickets into custom table.

  • I tore down my old fence in the fall of 2023. The old thing was falling apart everywhere I looked... and the termites were eating at the bottoms of the pickets. As I took the fence down I noticed that many of the boards would be fine to use again if I were to just to cut about a foot off the bottom. I determined that I could save many of these and make something nice out of them so I kept many of them. If you watched the video, you can see that my shed has turned into my wood storage center (haha but not a joke really) and my lawn tools and equipment have taken a back-seat to the space in there. Many call what I sometimes collect 'trash wood' for the burn pile but I see the true beauty and potential of wood. I will admit that sometimes it doesnt turn out quite like I hoped but this is not one of those examples. This goes to show how you can turn trash into treasure and exchange for cash. Let me know what you think and what you want to see next.

      I put a lot of time and heart in this video especially and going in with the thought process of: “what would I want to see if I watched this video “. Your comments and feedback means a lot. I am looking forward to hearing from you hopefully after the next video release. Thanks!

      It always happens… I think something up and it seems like not that much work…. And three or for weeks later after working on the project I think 🤔… what did I get myself into… this was definitely one of those also. Thanks for watching and for the comment. More 😎 builds coming soon!

    Nice table and a reasonable price for that much work. Not like the I turned a stick into a $50,000 kitchen video.

      I can honestly say that it turned out much better than I expected and the client was happy to take it off my hands meaning very happy with the price. I haven’t seen the stick into $50k kitchen. I will have to look that one up… sounds interesting. Thanks for watching. More to come from this channel.

    Be careful with that plastic push stick. Mine broke in have and sent my knuckle into the blade. This was 2 years ago and it still hurts like heck.

      That is got to be one of my worst fears. You know I was using my saw yesterday and resawing some boards. Some resistance caused me to use more force than I normally do. Glad to now have a tip of what else could happen. I definitely don’t want to get my hand in there. Thanks again!

    I’d love to find fence pickets that were that thick. Were they treated?
    Enjoyed the build. Looking forward to the next one

    • @JohnWagoner-bd7ux
      @JohnWagoner-bd7ux  Місяць тому +1

      These fence pickets were about 5/8 of an inch thick. I would say that the fence was at least 10 years old. It had been treated about every year, except for the last two it probably went untreated because it was falling apart in many areas. I’m happy with the way it turned out and I’m glad you enjoyed. I am also looking forward to the next release. Working on a couple projects now. Talk to you soon. Thanks for tuning in.

    What was the trick at getting the dowel spacing lined up right at 13:00? Are the dowels making a little dent after tapping the leg down with the mallet? Great build by the way, came out really clean!

    • @JohnWagoner-bd7ux
      @JohnWagoner-bd7ux  Місяць тому +2

      I used dowel center punches (link below) and that worked really well. I took pride in the fact that there is no metal hardware used for attachment anything. Just good old wood and glue. Fun build. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

    Beautiful table 🔥💜🔥 Love the legs and contrast! Is there a reason you did the second coat inside?

    • @JohnWagoner-bd7ux
      @JohnWagoner-bd7ux  Місяць тому +2

      Thanks. I really like the way it turned out also. I brought it inside for two reasons. The first was due to it was a little chilly outside in the garage during that timeframe and the epoxy levels much better in warmer environments. The second reason is that I had another project and video that was was working on and if I left it to cure out in the garage, I wouldn’t have be able to make any dust. And you know dust is kind of my thing… 😂. I have more neat items that I am working on. Hope to see you back for the next project. Thanks again

    Great piece. Well done. All this time when you were cutting, sanding and staining, you were wearing a mask. When you were stirring all this stuff you didn't want to inhale, where was that cute little dog?

    • @JohnWagoner-bd7ux
      @JohnWagoner-bd7ux  Місяць тому +5

      Thanks! My dogs only hang out with me in the garage when I’m not making dust. When the mask goes on, the dogs go inside. One of these days I hope to have good dust collection set up so I won’t need the mask so much. Thanks for watching and your comment

    i liked the video and all the details but i think it's a waste of time, money and equipment for a simple table that you can buy for $30 in the market

    • @JohnWagoner-bd7ux

      You make a fair point. Some do not see this as time well spent and I understand that and respect your perspective. I will say that I myself had a lot of fun making this and I am in the process of making more items out of old wood that most would put in the burn pile. This is just what I enjoy doing in my spare time. Glad you liked the video. I invite you to tune in again for the next build and continue to offer your feedback and even suggestion of how to make the builds or content a better experience for viewers and supporters of this type of footage. Thanks

      Woodworking is a big stress relief and I believe a work in progress for everyone. I started building small stuff like bird houses and pallet projects to begin with. I have messed up a lot of things and learned alot. Thankfully I have kept all my fingers. Thanks for watching and for the Sub. More to come on this channel. See you soon!
