    Good content Jac.
    I’ve done a bunch of interviews before I found this channel and I’ve been struggling.
    The amount of good quality information out there is very low , and this is coming from someone who already works for the Civil service.
    Hard to believe but even from the inside the amount of confusion with all this is considerable.
    I’m not a great believer in the whole process but these interviews are an unavoidable part of getting the job unfortunately.
    Loads of stuff to run with here and I’ll be putting this to use in future interviews .
    Cross your fingers for me
    And good luck in your own career.

    • @melm3617
      @melm3617 Рік тому +1

      Hi Sadaf,
      With the civil service interview style, they want each answer to have an example (including the strength-based questions which you are given 2 minutes to answer. some strength-based questions may seem like an closed question- so don’t just say yes or no, but explain why you either agree or disagree with what they have asked).
      Even if you forget to give an example at the time of answering a question, ask the panel to go back to that question and give an example when you think of one- I actually done this twice during my interview.
      Stick with the STAR approach. Look at the Job Description- and see what behaviours that you will be interviewed against, then create examples for each.
      Try and tailor your answers to relate to the job role with any previous experience, however this is not a must, as long as you demonstrate transferable skills.
      Some interview panels allow candidates to have their notes with them if the interview is a virtual interview, so make short notes that you can glimpse at during your interview.
      I already worked for the service before my interview however these videos really did help me to prepare.

    I recently went through a recorded interview - the questions were primarily “tell me about a time when...” I found the recorded interview technique something I’m not used to. I’d worked for two days on answers I’d memorised, and not one area covered - why do you want to be a work coach? What do you think your day to day role would be like? Strengths weaknesses. Style of communication and changing it.
    Difficult client - how would you deal with a client who is not interested in your help and does not want your support? Was a question asked.

    Hi mate, when answering behavior questions should we give one example or more? I think giving more than one example makes it sound like your first example wasnt good enough so you tried to make up for it by giving another. What are your thoughts? Also do you think Strength questions are easier? Im going to prepare these by looking at success profiles like you mentioned and it tells you which strength questions could be assessed for each behaviours. Thanks

    • @JacWilliamsVideo

      I would just give one example. Strength questions can be difficult if you're not prepared to chat through as they are quite vague questions where you're just expected to talk. Where as I find behaviour examples a lot more structured. Hope that helps

    It’s a flawed system really. They can ask you any one of hundreds of questions and you need to have an example ready to go, instantly. Essentially the people who perform best are the ones who just happen to have examples to hand. That’s why the good roles are ones that have several tests before the interviews to build a better picture of the applicant.

    • @samyoe
      @samyoe 2 роки тому

      I agree in terms of the strength-based questions.... but you can kind of infer what type of questions they'll ask based on the success profiles and what the role is. For instance, Jac is an analyst. They need to use their technical acumen to find insights, and then convey that to stakeholders who may be non-technical. So it makes sense that in an interview, they want prior evidence or aptitude of being able to communicate amicably.

    • @juaniglesias6327
      @juaniglesias6327 Рік тому +1

      On this I would say one thing. I used to get very nervous when asked competency skills. If you can 't think of anything it may be a good idea to make something up, which I've done many times when couldn't think of anything but most times it lead to a real example somehow. Don't forget that, even if that's not quite true, if that was a real situation that's what you would probably do in any case and that's what the interviewers really want to know

    Currently preparing for a civil service interview and am struggling with communication. I hardly remember a time when we had any meaning full communication in a work or personal environment. That is something I want to be doing and find people to do it with. Working common jobs in sales or any service, one just had to follow the rules and do their best with no questions or opinions expressed. If there was anything to be decided as how to work, only a few would win and they were the more aggressive of all. I have learn to keep quiet and not meddle. I feel and have been very often unheard and if communicating it was as what to do and what not to. I am not communicating enough in personal life either. I don't know what examples to give to interviews when I get some. I wish I leave this type of environment. If anyone has any thoughts on how to and what's best to present to interviewers, I would love to hear. My words don't matter enough even when trying to make an appointment with a doctor so I don't contact them anymore.
    People talk to and about you but not with you. Even when you try to. It is their perspective only that matters.

    Hi Jac..Thanks so much for this. It really helped. I've applied for a job with the Home Office, I'm waiting to hear if I've been invited for interview.
    This is what the Job Ad says:
    "Interview which will be a mixed approach of strength based questions (no preparation necessary) and Behaviour based questions.
    During the panel interview which will take place via Launchpad (virtual Interview), you will be asked behaviour-based questions on all behaviours as stated on the advert to explore in detail what you are capable of, and strengths-based questions."
    There are 3 behaviours: Making Effective Decisions, Managing a Quality Service and Communicating & Influencing.
    In your experience, what does this mean? Will they ask 1 behavioural question and 1 strength-based question for each Behavhiour? And how many questions do you think they will ask me, given there are 3 Behaviours and it's an EO Grade role?
    Thank so much and sorry for the long message 🙂
