Pretty good video, though it was glaring how you didn't mention any of Jump's past crossover games when talking about Jump Force. Jump Ultimate Stars on the DS had over 50 playable characters and over 100 assist characters from 42 different franchises, and J-Stars Victory VS (made by the Jump Force devs, Spike Chunsoft) had 39 playable characters and 13 assist characters from 32 different franchises. You had mentioned before how Bamco tried advertising the game has a big serious crossover, and that was intentional because they were literally just trying to turn the Jump characters into their own Avengers, down to having a Nick Fury-like leader and a Thanos-like villain. It also didn't help that Spike Chunsoft (the dev team) were working on other games at the time, like the One Punch Man game, or the recently revealed Sparking Zero/Tenkaichi 4 (which started development one year before Jump Force came out). On the topic of dubs though, there's definitely a LOT of legal mumbo-jumbo with MULTIPLE dubbing studios that Bamco does NOT want to deal with. Especially since Funimation and Viz Media kinda hate each other, so there's no way they'd want to work together on the same project together. No matter how many people want it to happen, Goku and Naruto will never talk to each other in their English voices in any sort of crossover.
This could have been such a great experience. They had everything we wanted in a nice looking package. The grind was ass, the story was mostly ass, but I mean I still like it for something dumb to do when I'm bored
Well, if I'm the future game dev, either 2d-indie or 3d-AAA, I'll make 2 future crossover games which is both for Shonen Jump (with 4-7 franchises' reps each) and for another Shonen Jump but with more franchises/IPs such as Ben 10, Justice League, Marvel, Capcom, etc.
Honestly, I agree with literally every single point you made, except for the story mode part. It's possible to have a good story mode in a game like this, but it'd be difficult. If they did it kinda like how Smash Bros. did Subspace Emissary, then it could work. In fact, it could possibly be better. They didn't execute it well at all, but I believe we could have a great story mode if they retooled it heavily.
This game is the epitome of a cash grab. It’s literally shonen jump and Bandai knowing that the game on paper sounds so good that everyone who is a fan of these properties will at least check it out because who wouldn’t want a smash like game with all your favorite anime characters instead of video game characters. But as soon as people realized how bad the game actually was the entire thing fell apart. One thing that actually turned me off to the whole thing was the lack of a guard break. I knew absolutely nothing about shonen jump characters because I had just started getting into anime seriously and what made me upset was how you could just press the block button and be impervious to all forms of damage. Gon is able to just simply guard a gear 4 luffy punch or a spirit bomb or a chidori. That immediately made me not like the game because it was clear that nobody involved actually cared about making a good game
Good video. Saw your post on reddit. I was gonna leave a longer comment, but I think you pretty much covered it. Real shame since I really didn't get into it until after the last dlc pack. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and release a much better Jump-Force 2. Probably a pipe-dream though.
Yo! Thanks I was really apprehensive on posting on reddit at first. Yeah my first long video like this I wanted to really discuss everything being that this was a game I was VERY passionate about. I know a lot of people that got into it towards the end of the game because it being on sale or characters coming out so you're not alone! A Jump Force 2 is something that I would honestly love but I think Shonen Jump and/or Bandai really have to figure themselves out and their end goal first before just throwing everything at a game and it being a jack of all trades master of none. I uninstalled jump force when i realized they let you pick 3 characters that all shared 1 health bar, i hated that it's so stupid. Why even let me pick 3 characters if i only get 1 health bar

Now with the announcement of DB tenkaichi 4 (sparking zero) the director said BT4 was in development since right after the release of fighterz, meaning bt4 was also using up resources that jump force couldve used.
The only answer is to let Arcsys take over and make a new game like this since there the only company that listens to fans gives rollback net code day one and will make the gameplay look and feel unique
Something I hoped u talked about in this was the character customization. It kinda sucked how there were only 4 character types u could pick. It sucked bc a lot of the things about the characters looked weird to me. Something I wish they actually had in it was a way larger customization like making a stand user or making a character fight with a different sword style. I would have loved maybe the ability to customize or buy swords for your character to use. It could also have been cool if u could make your character a specific race like a saiyan
yea i skipped over that, i didn’t even honestly experience much of it just because i was so annoyed of the open world and the character creator was just so useless i didn’t wanna make a character i wanted to play as my favorite characters
Yeah, and also on top of that grinding those characters to max level was so fucking goddamn tedious. There where I wanna say 3 or 4 level 100 mission, but only one of them is for “Leveling” (as each one is it’s own category there was also stuff to upgrade abilities and passives you could put on) so you’d fight the SAME three people that being DIO, Freiza, and Blackbeard. “Just fight online to level up” was and is a complete joke when you’d MAYBE get 10-12 xp for winning an online match when the back end of leveling is in the tens of thousands… I don’t know, I fucking loved the game… I just wish they did more, and tried harder which I get seemed to be the consensus… it’s just so unfortunate.
I loved playing it with my cousin we liked it but we did notice the issues hopefully if they make another jump force they can put more time into the game and hopefully it will be better
I stayed as far away from this game as possible I read reviews still cost 60 dollars to buy on Xbox platform was constantly being removed from gamepass because of lack of people playing it this game was destined to be a dumpster fire I agree a hundred percent I played it a couple times with my friend at his house on his PlayStation and I kept getting mad that I wanted to play someone else and I couldn’t because I was to lazy to go wait on his other plays ruin for him to invite me to change a character it’s almost like this game was killing itself almost intently the game just didn’t listen to its fanbase only reason I looked at this garbage game was because of some of the animations overall most disappointing game made for anime fans I wish they would make a new one which listened to the fanbase

I still play it and find the game fun. But it probably failed because of the dog shi story mode and the developers found out players weren’t playing it that much ( especially new players) and the low chances of people getting into it in the first place were pretty low in terms of stances! But I just still play it to today and quite the characters were getting added/shipped into the game, I’ll think about what my choice would be to accidentally buying a ass character that barely had swiftness. This is gonna make you sh*t your pants and call your parents crying after what I'm gonna say. Black. Clover is actually really good and a very great anime that I've seen so far. in my a board certified professional anime watcher , I'm serious about this damnit, Great openings that I've listened too a many of times, great plot for a story, amazing world building and a Finely crafted power system if I do say so myself... Nothing will ever be as good as Hunter X Hunter though. But damn I wish so hard so much they would start cranking out the new season of the anime :( especially seeing those last 2 episodes. Made me hyped up and ready for even more.

i think even then it would be EXTREMELY difficult to combine so many universes and art styles in a way that most would approve of. Let alone make sense and have good writing and no major plot issues.
@@AlyxAugust It could have been dificult but not impossible to make it good. You could have vut some characters for sake of preventing saturation, and change the aesthetic to fit something more fantastical, rather than pushing into realism.
I knew jump force wasn’t going to be succesful from the get go. I am normally very optimistic about games, especially fighting games. But the gameplay just wasn’t hitting. j stars was a lot of fun because you had this huge map you could cause havoc on, but jump force just feels like a compact package that wasnt packed down properly. Poor fighting mechanics, the tag mechanic felt unsatisfying, issues with certain characters being overwhelming while others felt completely unusable. My friends certainly were hopeful, but its too steep of a learning curve for a game thats casual at best.
I don't think they were considering the western market that much, that's why there is no dub and I don't know if the new school/old school divide of anime fans is that prominent in Japan

It's unfortunate that the game is ending yeah it could've last a bit longer but they had to pull the plug on it because of a licensing issue that's also why the game is delisted from digital stores
I mean it’s more than a licensing issue. The game player base wise wasn’t doing good. The game likely wasn’t making much of any money because the player base was so small. And obviously all the stuff I mentioned in the video too. But yea very unfortunate to see anything with a huge fan base potentially, get shut down

Jump Force from the trailers looked at the very least cool, it looked like you’d at least have a lot of fun with it. Jump force as a game wasn’t bad but a lot of what built up the experience like the voicing, general game design with loading screens hub world and what not suffered a bit.
Too bad it failed so hard. I was ready to buy it because of the free combat and all but when i saw the story mode, i immediately asked for a refund and hopefully i never played this game instead of metro exodus, 3 years ago. And since then, it only became worse and worse, the rematch button, the spammers, etc... and now this, complete shutdown of the game. If there is one thing that i've learned since now 3 years, when you like anime, choose the right anime games to play instead of potential bad ones, especially from Spike Chunsoft.
You are right, anime genre-focused games are stuck in the movie tie-in games where 80% are trash or irrelevant and a small portion are worth playing let alone actually good.

I think it was also a huge leadership thing and more of these Japanese companies not know what western audiences truly wanted. Lots of wheels got jammed while making this game and it's easy to see that it's not just one thing instead a multitude.

@@AlyxAugust It all depends on the efforts and love the devs put in the game and giving what the devs really felt about this game, i guess the result wasn't that good for them.
@@TheREALHugo4 I know personally a lot of the devs from my research were big fans of these series and wanted to do good. I think it was also a huge leadership thing and more of these Japanese companies not know what western audiences truly wanted. Lots of wheels got jammed while making this game and it's easy to see that it's not just one thing instead a multitude.

i don’t think the spammers was the issue but the easy to exploit combat system, a good system will make it so good players can punish spammers.

I agree with your complaints on the game but Jump force is one of the best anime fighter games I’ve ever played I would say it’s better than J stars
I loved the game, extremely fun for me. But i just can’t call it the best lmao especially when ninja storm exists. It had insane potential though, I think that’s why I and others like yourself can say it’s the best because it very well could’ve been. Just my thoughts tho! Appreciate the comment!
