@@MrDenzal27 Although I love a nice bit of cod or Salmon, I have to agree, but not for the same reasons. Back in the day, British fisherman used nets where the whole size of the net was such that the small fish, prawns and crabs got through. Only the larger fish got caught. When we joined the EEC, we opened up our fishing grounds to the French and Spanish boats whose net hole sizes were much smaller. Everything got caught! And with the stupid quotas, so much fish was thrown back, dead. The whole eco system is destroyed. Not to mention the Korean or Chinese boats. The Dutch used two super trawlers with a monstrous large net trawled between them. How there are any fish left in the North Sea is beyond me. Meat are actual animals that trust humans, killing domestic animals is a wicked and treacherous act. These animals are subjected to extreme suffering and distress. Eating meat does not agree with human morality and that's a fact whether you like it or not.
When families and communities grow their own food and/or have local farms that supply local bakeries and butchers etc none of what they mention is a problem. Animals are treated with respect, Food is organic, the land is healthy, and supply perfectly balances with demand. All of the issues mentioned are caused by industrialized farming.

The reduction is mainly down to cost. I have actually increased my meat consumption for health reason, but then, I was taught to cook real food as a child back in the 50s. I can, therefore, make delicious meals out of the cheaper cuts of meat. Here a slow cooker, a variety of spices and marinading for 24 hours adds even more tenderness and flavour. Had a bottle of spiced wine left over from last Christmas, mad e an excellent marinade although I usually make up my own with red wine and apple cider vinegar well spiced.

Mince beef, onions, tomatoes, sauce and spaghetti were reasonabky priced for students and provided a filling nutritional meal to offset the copious volumes of larger we consumed. Now many years later i am still an enthusiastic carnivore. I would estimate i eat meat at least one meal per day 6 days out if seven. I may have cut down a little due to the cost of living and have a can of chilli plus rice spread out over a couple of days rather than make fresh etc. But i usually have a decent sized steak (rare of course) at least once a week. Tonight i am tucking in to a sausage casserole - in fact i am getting a second helping in a minute. I am not having a bunch of wet behind the ears activist students dictate what i eat and am appalled at any government or institution who listens to this drivel. If they want to be vegen or vegetarian then fine. I am not going to insist you eat meat. Do me the same courtesy and dont try forcing me to follow your pet activist mentality. So why are we not allowed to have an opinion about how millions of farm animals are treated? I am pretty sure that if I opened a dog slaughterhouse there would be plenty crying their outrage over it. The sheer hypocracy that people will allow one thing if it's a pig but cry their eyes out if it is a dog or a cat, is just mind-baffling.

Dogs are pretty safe because the meat isn’t very nice. I once ordered ‘bosintang’ in Korea not knowing what it was. The meat wasn’t nice at all but the broth/soup itself was pretty good. Never tried cat, though. I expect it’s vile.
Horse, on the other hand, is delicious. Whenever I arrive in Belgium, the first things I eat - within a day or two - are horse from the charcuterie, snails from a street stand and mussels in a bar with lots of beer!
I’m largely vegetarian nowadays for reasons of health. I can take or leave most meats, really and don’t miss eating beef, mutton or goose. Not that fussed about foie gras, ortolans or other ‘fancy’ stuff.
It’s just an unfortunate fact of life - for the animals concerned - that pigs, chickens, ducks, horses, frogs (legs of), little sheep, prawns, crabs, lobsters - indeed most shellfish* - are delicious. And nothing on earth will stop me from eating rabbits! ‘Lapereaux’ - the little ones are the best culinary treat of all.

Fishing out the sea is much worse and cruel than farming.
As a kid when I visited our local fish quay the fish were big, now the boxes with big fish are fewer and fewer. Life is suffering. Saying it's destroying the planet is ideological hyperbole. There could, and likely should be better methods employed.
