He was such a legend that in the Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg HBO miniseries "Band Of Brothers" about the 101st Airborne in particular Easy Company during the preparation scene for the D-Day invasion they showed one of the troopers shaving another's head into a Mohawk.
Quality touch as they couldn't include him any other way as he was in a different part of the airborne and they weren't telling his story unfortunately lol no diss on Band of Brothers as it's one of the best pieces of dramatic storytelling and visual spectacle ever out to television. I'd highly recommend a watch even if it wasn't for a reaction video series.
Mine too.. I'm a girl and after my parents split up when I was seven I grew up with my dad until I did live with Mom when I was 15 or 16 and then moved back with Dad when I went to community college before I got married to a US Marine and dad was US Navy for 26 years and worked for the veterans administration 30 years. Dad was active duty Navy for about 4 or 5 years and then stayed in the reserves until 1992. He got out of the Navy in 1970 and went to work for the VA.
I could wear a dress and act like a lady but I can also have some of the worst manners, too. Mom reminded me of that every summer when we visited..
This guy and his buddies are my heroes... I've watched several World War II documentaries and our poor guys went through hell . If they weren't getting it from the Germans initially they were getting it from their own bomber because it was so cloudy this one National guard unit that was activated and sent over to Normandy, got bombed on June 7th 1944 because it was cloudy and that time 25 were killed and 111 injured.. the next day on June 8th it was absolutely beautiful and everything started out 100 💯%.. Americans were famous for precision bombing and the first group of bombers and fighters went out and did just that... The second group of American bombers went out and what occurred is where they were going to drop the smoke from the first bombing blew north, & that resulted in the second set of bombers bombing in the wrong area and bombing this poor National guard unit AGAIN.. THAT TIME OVER 100 DIED AND FAR MORE INJURED.
The saddest part about day one is that the bombing was actually called off because of the cloudy skies but not everybody got the message and that's why some of the bombers went ahead with the bombing and if they would have all gone ahead with the bombing more people on the ground would have died.
These National guard guys were sent up to hold this hilltop- mountain. Their mission was to be the biggest pain in the ass to 6 SS panzer tank division coming through in order to tie them up for 3 days so General Patton could go around the South and meet up with General Omar Bradley. Oh boy these guys caught them by the third day they were running low on ammunition and food but they weren't going to give up even though it was 3 days. General Patton sent a division to go relieve these guys because they wiped out a good number of the Nazis & the panzer division and there were only maybe about 400 of these guys.. they were just up in the woods and they had to end up eating bark and stuff like that for 2 days until they were finally rescued. What was supposed to be 3 days ended up being 5 days and so many of them were injured and they were short on water. A couple of Germans were climbing up the hilltop with white flags and they thought they were going to surrender.. no! the Germans climbed up there with white flags just so they wouldn't get shot but they asked the Army National guard troops if they wanted to surrender and the ones that were laying on the ground injured were hollering "Hell no!" ..
That's pretty courageous for 18-22 year old guys.
The next day they were relieved and I think it was the 77th division took care of the remaining SS panzer units down on the ground so they did their jobs well... It was extremely well but so hard when they started running out of supplies day three and had to ration everything and be so precise with shooting and bombing... Crawl down from the hilltop at night time and go throw grenades at the enemy and wherever they have the most ammunition stash so they can blow it up and then get back up that Hill- mountain without getting caught..
God bless those guys and I look around America today and I see all these youngsters and young adults with cell phones.. oh they really really need something more to do even though I hate war and I would not ever wish that on anyone again. The one thing I do want is for people to have more discipline and self-control but that starts at home.
Thankfully not all young adults act like the idiots we see on TV. Praise God

Those guys were hilarious and what they went through was sheer hell but even major Dick Winters said years later when he was being interviewed, "the worst thing he hated when he got promoted was he hated not being able to be up there up front with the men the whole time and the colonel was always having to grab him back early on because he had this impulse to run up to the front"..
And Jake died in 2013 at the ripe old age of 93! What a life. 🇺🇸

He was awarded the Medal of Honor - when he was supposed to be awarded the medal he couldn't be found. He had screwed up again and was on kitchen police duty. His name was Maynard "Snuffy" Smith

I am a proud Choctaw from Oklahoma. I never heard of this legend until now. Only of the Choctaw code talkers. Choctaw's were the original code talkers during WW1. I never been more proud of my Choctaw language. Great reaction!
Okie here, also part Choctaw 😉, MOSTLY Cherokee and Irish, but a little Choctaw mixed in. We learned about Jake in our Oklahoma history class, but my teacher was a history buff and a vet himself so he taught us all about the Oklahomans that did amazing things in combat. I was fortunate though.

They saved hundreds, if not thousands of US lives with those supply drops. We had a bunch of guys from our county at the Battle of the Bulge. One guy I knew was freezing in his fox hole and the medic came and ordered him to the rear before he lost his toes to frostbite. My great uncle (one of my grandmother's 9 brothers and sisters) was a tank driver in Patton's 3rd. They were overwhelmed and their tanks shot out from under them. Uncle Dude was able to escape along with his tank commander, but not the other guys. They were able to grab a couple of rifles and a bandoleer of ammo but were almost immediately captured by the Germans, who only took their rifles. The Germans had so many prisoners, Uncle Dude and his tank commander were able to sneak out and escape. They would steal chickens and boil them in their helmet, using powder from the cartridges to season the chicken. When they got home, Uncle Dude introduced his tank commander to one of his little sisters, my Great Aunt June, and soon after, tank commander Beumel Franks became my Great Uncle Beumel. :)
A neighbor of mine was in the 101st Airborne. He volunteered for Airborne for the extra $50 a month hazard pay. He dropped in at Market Garden. He was wounded in the arm on the way to the ground. A farmer took him in and hid him while his family took care of him until he was able to make it to friendly lines. In the mean time, because he wasn't able to contact anyone, they assumed he was Missing In Action (MIA). My grandmother was at his mom's house when the gov't car pulled up with an officer carrying a folded flag and a posthumous Purple Heart. They assumed he was KIA (Killed In Action) by that time. A couple of weeks later, Mr. Sam sent his mother a telegram telling her he was ok and coming home soon. :)

Well true, Deep South and deep fried are practically synonymous terms. But English fish and chips are a truly a culinary marvel.
Army Pathfinders were the forefathers of today's Air Force Combat Controllers, some of the most crucial and capable special operations forces.
We still have pathfinders in the army. One of the plt sgt's in my old infantry unit was a pathfinder. They found a way to move him to s-3 where he helped plan missions and operations
Also remember the rationing going on in the UK during the war. Basically a lot of Americans tried British cuisine for the first time at a pretty low point in its history.
From what I hear, and my own experience, there was never a high point in British cuisine history 😂

Back in the 80's my 7th grade history teacher had jake mcniece come tell us some stories I'm from Tonkawa, Oklahoma 15 miles west of Ponca City so cool to hear this story

I was in the 82nd Airborne at Ft Bragg from 1991-1997 as a paratrooper ad we were very highly professional... on duty. Off duty.. completely crazy. It was expected for us to blow off steam. I ended up with 26 years and retired. I had 2 Grandfathers and 4 Uncles that fought in WW2, everywhere from Alaska, the Pacific, North Africa and Europe. Between the 6 of them they earned 5 purple hearts (wounded) and 5 Bronze Star Medals.
Good for you.... but every now and then we get "those guys". I served my army life in the infantry and my old man is a retired vet and for the most part yes we conduct ourselves professionally at all times. But sometimes, especially when your doing constant combat rotations, guys want to let loose and not give a damn because tomorrow we might die. I first joined in 93 and finished my service in 2015. Based on your timeframe you didnt really serve in a wartime army. If you joined in 91 then you weren't in desert storm. Get off your high horse

My first unit in the Army was the 506th, got there in 07, at that time they still had pictures of McNiece and his men getting painted up hanging in the battalion headquarters building. Anti-hero absolutely fits given that the unit still talks about his exploits with a bit of reverence and reticence all at the same time.
The funniest thing about McNiece is that with all the shit he pulled, the number of times he was in the stockades, he still got a good conduct medal.
There is a book called "The Devil's Guard" about an SS soldier who joined the French foreign legion after WWII. He hated communism after fighting Stalin, so he and some SS buddies went to Vietnam. Very good book.
One thing that always rubbed me wrong was that all the game belongs to the crown. I know of it from my great grandparents who were in the I.R.A. the crown didn't care if your family was starving. Go for it Jake!!

My dad worked in Ponca city Oklahoma after WWII. It’s a small town. I wonder if they met. My aunt & uncle stayed there until they died.

There's a lot of places that do fish and chips in the US. It's really the only time you'll see chips refer to french fries. New England does it really well, though I haven't tried it here in the South since I've been here. New England is probably one of the better places in the US to get seafood though. It would be interesting to see if you guys like the fish and chips in the states.
Oddly enough, that would make a lot of sense! Not just because New England has a lot of coastal fishing towns, but turns out Fish and Chips is considered Portuguese (Specifically Portuguese-Jewish) in origin - and there are quite a lot of Portuguese settled in the New England area.
Down south you might get fries with your fish, but more often it’ll be hush puppies and fried catfish with a side of white beans

That was an excellent video. I had never heard of Jake. There are many stories that we have never heard about from WW2.
I'm excited for more Fat Electrician content, especially once you get to Samuel Whitmore, Cassius Clay, and Dan Daly. Each one of them are legendary in their right but are hardly mentioned anymore so seeing it gain popularity again is really cool if not borederline necessary in my opinion. So thanks for doing this kind of content even if it's just a short chapter in your own story, I both enjoy and appreciate it.
I forgot to mention the Limping Lady too, she was the ultimate strong female character and has an amazing story worth reacting to.
Cassius Clay is Muhammad Ali, anyone over the age of 40 should be aware of him and any boxing fan knows who he is, he is a legend and will never be forgotten in the boxing world.

I am so glad you found this guy, I was going to try to let you know but when I went to your page I saw the one about the Iran navy. FT has a way of making a serious story humerus while still getting the point across. This story is high up on my list of favorites from him, another one he did that I really like would be the precursor to the Iran Navy story about how you should not mess with our boats 'America Dismantles Pirate Nations For Touching Their Boats - The Barbary Wars' . Love his channel and have been a sub on your channel as well for some time now.
Between this channel and L3WG Reacts, seeing all the positive reactions and excitement make me want to find the European version of The Fat Electrician and really appreciate the military stories and history of other countries. Highly recommend his video on Cassius Clay!

7:15 that’s where I did my training in ‘04. It’s been around since WWI. All infantrymen walk through the same halls as every infantrymen that came before him. I guess it’s fort Moore now.
i treated my entire military career like this,
i can't tell you how often the words "F'ing fire me then" came out of my mouth after a very lengthy argument, ended up with a full retirement after just shy of 10 years and never made rank.

@TheLanceUppercut I don't regret my career, in fact I miss it every day, despite how jacked up it was.
At the end I went to the equivalent of HR to report leadership to protect a buddy of mine, leadership expedited my retirement from two months to 5 days, and that's my biggest regret over it.
As far as not making rank I never wanted it, honestly felt like I was best served as an E4 since training was always lacking, and I could still step into a leadership role if needed.

I highly recommend his book, he had a writer with him on it but a lot of the stuff is in his own words and his words hit hard and true.
I was aused when he was thrilled to go to the air base. My Dad was in the Army Air Corp stationed at Debach which is near Ipswich he never said what the food was like. I am fairly certain it was a standard menu the US army had.
You havent lived until you've had southern fried chicken , mashed potatoes , gravey , black eyed peas., collard greens and fresh buttermilk bisquits. That is a traditional southern sunday dinner.
With some variations of sides for different seasons I wholeheartedly agree. Southerner here and during the summer I'll switch out the mash and collards for potato salad and slaw

Yeah, I know why, I heard the whole story. However, anyone who contributed so much, at such great personal risk, regardless how they conducted themselves otherwise, deserves their Nation's highest tribute.
There is no higher crime in the military then being highly effective, but pissing off the brass with said effectiveness
@@nobodyimportant9127 A prime example of that is Commander Richard Marcinko, the founder of SEAL Team 6. Incredibly skilled, incredibly effective, but pissed off his superiors so badly with his exploits that he was drummed out of the Navy and jailed on the flimsiest charges. Read the book 'Rogue Warrior' if you want to know more about this now deceased antihero.

Safe cracking was a specialty of the First Special Services Force, a joint US and Canadian commando unit. Everywhere they went -- stateside -- had a couple safecracking robberies while they were there. The culprits were never identified.
The movie the dirty dozen I think in black and white was pretty good.

According to an interview with Jake, the food they were getting in England were British K rations. Mostly Carrot, Brussel Sprouts and stewed tomatoes.
American Commanders realized they don't have to control Jake, they just have to unleash him.

Here in the UK we had severe rationing of food, clothing, fuel and non-essentials from 1939 onward, in fact we still had rationing in 1953. In terms of land America is 39 times larger than the UK and during WW2 you had roughly 3 times our population with vast areas of food production, which we did not have. UK farming was aimed at war production and so crops to produce alcohol in order to fuel vehicles; plus high yield crops for food for people and sheep, cattle, birds and goats. Rationing for adult civilians was restrictive, young children received milk and fruit but older children did not. Deep sea fishing was disrupted by German raiders, submarines and air attacks and so inland river species were virtually wiped out during the war.
As a paratrooper, it hasnt changed much.

Okie here, didn't grow up on reservations, but my grandpa didn't speak English until he was 10. He grew up in Indian Territory. My great grandmas, both grandma and grandpa's mothers NEVER spoke English. One spoke Cherokee, one Choctaw. 🤷♀️ And yes, this man is Okie through and through
Jake was the essence of a true American, the good and the bad. He was supremely confident, independent, tough, loyal, brave, able to improvise, brash, loud, arrogant, he liked to drink, fight and raise hell. Obviously, he was also the type of guy you wanted with you in a fight.
I love that people such as yourself have been watching vids and stories about the history of the United States. Before all this Brits saw us Americans as loud and too proud. But now you understand why, starting with the revolution. Basically farmers take on the largest military power in the world 🌎 and win our independence not just once but twice war of 1812. Then Spanish American war. WW1, we came in and helped our British cousins. WW2 we came late only because WW1 was still fresh and people didn't want to lose loved ones, the English didn't welcome the Americans, Churchill wanted us because he knew WW2 wasn't going well. But just look we were a nation of farmers to become the sole super power and close friends of Britain.
I'd recommend watching The Dirty Dozen, it doesn't live up to the real thing, but it's still a good movie.

I have a great Fort Benning story. My friend was graduating basic. So, his family drove their car and my other friend and I are in a metallic blue Firebird. We drove from Wisconsin to Georgia for Graduation. The night before Graduation, the nubes get a few hours off base. Did I mention it is a dry county? Meaning, THEY DON'T SELL ALCOHOL! We're from WI and one of our sayings is "Drink Wisconsinably"
When we go to different states that have a drinking contest, we are immediately disqualified because.....welll...Wisconsin! So we make a county line run in the Fire-Chicken, in a state that we have no idea where we're going. This was before GPS or Google Maps. We didn't even have a regular map. So, me being the great navigator I am, I say "Head west."
"Which way is west man?"
"That way."
So we find a highway heading "that way" and we hit the county line and get some beer. All this time our friend is with his family at the hotel.
We get back and get our buddy. We have a few beers and he's like "Ok, I have to be back on base in 30 minutes." We were like 😮 Hmmm, ok let's do this. So we take a metallic blue Fire-Chicken onto a major military base half drunk.
So it was 1996 so alot of things were easier.....like literally driving through the front gate of a major military base without anyone even stopping us to check us. We drop our buddy at the PX because his barracks was close.
Now we had him to lead us to the PX and now he's gone.
"Umm, do you remember the way out?"
"Umm, no!"
So we just drove the Fire-Chicken around Fort Benning, pretty buzzed up, just trying to get out. We took a turn and came to a barrier with a sign that said "WARNING! LIVE MINEFIELD AHEAD!"
This was a very sobering moment and we take a few breaths and back up....very slowly. We head up the road and luckily it was the way out. Again, no check.
I'm sure we are some of the few civilians that drove drunk around Fort Benning, GA USA. ✌❤🍻🇺🇲

18:25 ish minute mark, yes... Colonels are VERY high ranking. Only Generals ( Brigadier General is one 🌟 Major General is two stars, lieutenant General Three, and General four stars.) are a higher rank/grade
