Damita Jo Freeman took the time to share her knowledge, experience, and history being one of the original dancers on Soul Train. She talks about dancing with Don Campbellock, James Brown, and more! Thank you Buddha Stretch and Suga Pop for taking the time to also share your experiences growing up with Soul Train and the impact it had on your lives and the lives of so many people in America. We are constantly trying our best to make the time to connect with the legends/pioneers that helped pioneer and innovate the culture we are a part of today. She has a beautiful body and look so good... No ton of makeup eyelashes or wigs..Her skin is still beautiful..

I portrayed Damita Jo for the Soul Train honors for TV Land awards and was trained by Tony Basil and Suga Pop, with and Poppin' Pete and so on. The most amazing thing I've got to do. All dreamed to be on SOUL TRAIN but the honors was even better 🙏🏾🤎

My whole family used to watch Soul Train on Saturdays and right after the show went off, we'd all be dancing in the living room and outside. It was a fun, safe time, oh the memories! At the time, I lived down the street from Charles Washington and used to hang with two of his younger sisters.
Danita Hi was my favorite! I remember seeing her in Vegas, and there was a small group trying to get her to dance. I chimed in when I saw her. No other dance style like hers!
Me my brothers would watch Soul Train Saturday morning’s learn a new dance move and later on that night at the house parties we couldn’t wait to show it off...memories!

My mom would tune in to Soul Train whenever it came on when I was a kid. It was impossible not to stop watching it! The bands and the young people all dancing felt soooo alive and vibrant!

Met DJ, and all of the lockers, in 1969 at a club I helped get started called the Citi del de HATI! LOCATED on SUNSET BOULEVARD, 3- BLOCS EAST OF HIGHLAND BOULEVARD! FIERCE! The fastest front leg kick you ever wanted to see in your life! Too much energy! She won a lot of dance contests back then, that's how young BLACK people survived back when, not stealing, smashing and grabbing, positive, positive, dance performance, MOVING AND GROVINNG! That's how she was able to go on stage with the one and only RIP , KING OF SOUL, MAJOR DANCER HIMSELF JAMES BROWN!
Days gone by, never to be repeated 😔. These days Black men teach the moves to the white women they are chasing after, then when it's time for the spotlight, white producers put the white women in the front as if they originated the dance! I am so proud of artists like Beyoncé who utilize all Black female dancers, unapologetically giving those beautiful Black Queens a platform to shine!✊🏿. Damita Jo Freeman, you are a LEGEND! What's funny? In the Memphis/Mid-South viewing area, Soul Train didn't come on until 10:30pm on Saturday nights!! The reason was because Memphis wrestling came on at 11:00am and it was HUGE!!! So area program directors protected the home product over a national product. But I didn't miss rasslin' or Soul Train!!! 👍🏽😎

Damita Jo Freeman was one of my Favorite Soul Train Dancers....I also like Patricia Davis and Connie Blackino...also like Wanda Fuller.Damita Jo was very down to Earth....Pat Davis was more Flashy ...But she could Dance also....Miss those Early 70's Dance Shows.....Pat Davis and Damita Jo also Danced on American Bandstand Great in the 70's Wow I miss those days❤😊😅🎉 7:

I happened to grow up in J.V."s and Foster homes in L.A. being a "white girl" I got along with everyone, and it never failed every Saturday it was Soul Train, so I must say I had a lot of soul for a white chick.....Grandma in Hawaii..

...she has since in an interview said that DAMITA...is an excellent dancer...I idolized DAMITA JO...and I learned every move she would make...and I became a dancer and choreographer just like her...and I did that professionally for 25 years... I THANK GOD FOR HER....

The other girls probably were a little snobby towards the new girl but definitely embraced her as Patricia Davis paid homage to her in her interview saying that Damita was one of the best Soul Train dancers. My sister and I looooooved Damita and Pat. Both ladies look absolutely AMAZING today.😍❤
