Many thanks fella. I live on the south / southwest coast of england and now the children aren’t interested in me unless they want a lift , I’ll buy me a Scanner at last. Unfortunately I’m coming from just being unable to resist slow tuning the domestic fm 87.5 to 107.9 scale when I’m at our local ridge ( Win Green at a mere 911ft ) and apart from a Tecsun portable with Air Band 108 to 135 approx I’ve no experience with more exotic devices -so your channel seems like a great place to get educated.. Thankyou for your time and effort & best wishes from the New Forest ( near AFC Bournemouth if soccer means anything to you over there 😁)
I upgraded to a digital trunk scanner since although all public safety in my area stays analog for interoperability the utility companies have been using P25 systems now. I noticed a improvement even on the analog reception because it has a DSP in it so maybe still worth looking into even if you don't scan digital stuff.
ICOM R-5 is a great basic wideband receiver. My future radio is a Unication G-2"or 3, with DMR and APCO P-25. Great review. All the best in life in the future. Great listening.
What scanner do you recommend under $200 that will be perfect for me? I'm in the country and need something that will pick up police, EMS, ect. My local police do not broadcast on the police apps I use.
Is it possible to be able to listen to Airline traffic between the Tower ? or if Military aircraft are flying can I hear the Tower talking to the Aircraft
RonG - YES, its Possible IF you are Close to the Tower or the Airbase . but, you will need a Analog Scanner capable of tuning the Military AERO Band - 200 mhz to 400 mhz in AM mode and somtimes in SSB. you also need the Correct channel spacing. and soon AOR will Launch its 4ch Scanner for AIR Communications + Military the AR 7400, it has 4 Indipendent Scanners operting at the same time , in this way you can Monitor TOWERS and Aircraft Seperatly .
Officalvhfuhfchannel - the days of using Analog Trunk Scanners and Analog Scanners in GENERAL are NUMBERED. Primarily as Analog services are MIGRATING over to NXDN and iDAS DIGITAL Voice and Digital Trunking Services that are BACKWARD Compatable to Already EXISTING Analog Voice + Analog Trunking services. this means a Company using Analog Trunking can gradually UPGRADE to iDAS Digital Trunking over time and Continue to use the Analog Trunking Radios while they UPDATE the Trunking BASE stations and Repeaters to Analog/Digital in ONE unit. and over time they can Completely replace the OLD Analog Radios with Digital ones. this is more Spectrally efficient and less Expensive than going to P25. Others like Hospitals are already Converted to 100% Digital IP Radios that use the Existing WiFi IP Network to communicate with Patients with TINY IP Digital Radios. NXDN and iDAS can also Communicate over IP from the Basement to the Top Floor , all in Digital Clarity. or in a Giant Stadium , the Grounds , the Vendors and even in another Building DOWNTOWN. P25 cannot Communicate over IP.
Would you be interested in explaining it more in depth because my local area. Small county in texas I think went to digital trucked scanner. Since I have lost 95% of communications.

to receive the tower you need to be close to it, if it is too far from you all you will get is the plane
