That's different. The tensioner is towards the back of the machine.

I don’t think the tension spring on mine is working correctly, can it be taken off and refitted correctly?

Yes, you can disassemble the unit piece by piece and refit it. Or you can order a new spring and replace it, or even replace the unit with a complete 'new' tension unit.
