Great, you brought philosophical content. My Master told me 30+ years ago” you’ll never become master without knowing philosophy and history of martial arts “ spent 4-8 hours for training + you have all night for philosophy! Great. Thank you.
WHAT a Master....what an ability to teach and demonstrate and explain the basics that we all should be able to but NOT learn “just” by earning a blackbelt...this takes decades to master and Master Hotton is a very good example on how one is maturing during your martial arts career practicing 20-30-40 years...RESPECT👊👍
Yes he is an incredible Master and Sensei He blew me away when he stated he wanted his students to be better than him No selfishness in him at all not an ounce
This is the DEEP knowledge. Are you wondering how a 60 year old man can move with such speed and power? It's the internal movement that transfers momentum to his limbs. It takes decades to reach such mastery, even when studying internal arts like Tai Chi, Ba Gua, or Aikido. He is showing internal power in an external art. This instructor, in a day of coaching, could take ten years off your learning curve. And much is lost in translation, when teaching these internal methods. But Hotton has an obvious grasp of his subject, and is a phenomenal communicator.
The punch is a lot like pulling back a bow and releasing the arrow, when i do that kind of punch its this kind of floating feeling like i sent it out and don't really feel the impact, like the fist isnt even connected to the body but its moving a lot faster and harder than it seems.
Fortunately for me this was in English, so I could sit back and mull over Hotton Sensei's points. However I do wonder if the French speaking karate-ka understood some of the more subtle points. Of course this video was merely an 11 minute snap shot into what may have been several hours of training and instruction. Perhaps the large chap has explained more in French when time was available. I can also see a couple of different karate groups working together which I consider to be a very good thing.
The tall gentleman is Shihan Bryan Mattias, 7th Dan and Vice President of the International Karate Daigaku. There are a couple Shihans of the IKD in attendance.
warrior-monk mentality. nay too bad in my opinion. mythical priests who held themselves to a high standard of ethics seems pretty amazing. it sound like stories of jedi that kids who like star wars read.a lot of those kinds of stories have such positive messages that people can incorporate into their adult life.
Love his teaching’s and explanations of the techniques. Appreciate the time he takes to go in detail.
Top level teacher! And I do Goju! When someone is Top it is cross nationalities systems styles!!

Rick is a fine example of what a great educator and effective communicator is. 🙏
As an aikido student I love how Hotton sensei presents the intersection of karate and aikido.
Truth .... We really are missing the warrior priest archetype, not just in martial arts, but in our society...
We need a mage and a cleric too!
