Did the box braids damage her hair? I’m really curious how straight hair did this after taking down her braids.

box braids are not meant for thin straight hair. this is a prime example of why people with straight hair should not be getting box braids. they’re a protective style for curly headed people, specially type 4 hair. some type 3 hair people can pull it off but it would have to be probably 3b-3c hair

I’ve had braids before; they won’t damage your hair if you take them out correctly. DO NOT GET YOUR HAIR WET RIGHT AFTER TAKING THEM OUT!!!! Give your hair a second to relax and sleep with it in a bun that night. For best results, get them removed/redone at the salon. there’s a myth that braids will hurt your hair if it’s too thin, which is in accurate. A little hair loss when taking out braids is expected, and that can look more dramatic when you have less hair to begin with. If you take them out and put them in right, you should be good! (I have 3b-3c hair, but I’ve known people with 1a/1b who slayed in braids!)

As a black woman this was informative I would of never thought this could happen from getting braids with thinner hair. This will help me for when I’m doing my grandkids hair their biracial and now I know what not to do when doing their hair type thanks so much! ❤
