Each time you say "pivot" in a video, I can't help to think about that FRIENDS episode where Ross buys a new couch and gets Chandler and Rachel to help him get it up the stairs... "PIIIVOOOOTTTT!" I just laugh each time. xD
As a student watching this video, I personally think it's very interesting to get more insight on what teachers think about entertaining their kids and doing what they can for us, this was an amazing video for both sides of the spectrum (teachers and students) and I love what you're doing. (And congratulations on 5,000 subscribers!! Can't wait to see your growth)
I've been binge watching teacher vlogs because I'm about to begin student teaching and have been freaking out about being terrible. So far, your videos have eased my anxiety and made me much less afraid of the 9th grade English class I'm about to walk into. Your tips are fantastic, and I plan to take many of them with me as I start teaching!
Stephani B you'll do great, remember teaching is a craft and student teaching is the perfect place to ask lots of questions and learn a lot! Please reach out if you ever need help!
I'm just over half way through my school year (Australia) and I've adopted a few of your ideas so far. Now and then I surprise the whole school staff by sending kids around with a basket of chocolates and little notes. I have been organising my work area and classroom supplies so things are easier to find. I am also gradually making the more more appealing to spend time in. And... I am team teaching with an amazing gentleman and I have a wonderful Teacher Assistant and we support each other and care about each other and it makes the world of difference. Because we are having a great time, the kids are having a great time and our classroom simply feels "happy and warm". I am going to see what else I can do to keep working on improving the year for myself and those around me. I don't want to become blasé and just settle into a routine. Thank you for this reminder.
Your videos crack me up! I love how real you are. Can't wait to add some magic to my year and celebrate those victories with more authentic materials in Spanish like songs, videos and of course games. Who doesn't like a good game. My goal this year is lots of comprehensiable input and high student engagement.
I like the idea of sprinkling a little magic. I will do that in my school library. And I love the posted note idea, I am going to make a board "The best books ever" and let the kids put postedt notes on it. Thanks for that idea. Inspiring as ever.
The "Magic" that you talked about is some of the most important and memorable stuff students remember. I let students go through my car and my stuff on the first day of school to try to figure out who I am last year and they STILL talk about it lol. Great video dude!
I'm so glad I recently discovered your channel as I enter my first year. Any advice as to what a new teacher should be doing the first couple weeks before school begins? Is lesson planning a thing this early? I'm excited, yet overwhelmed.
I LOVE how you changed your recording background with each tip. Your vlogs are always so full of great information. I appreciate the time you take to make these videos for us!
+Detroit Teacher Life 20 years in the game! Thanks Detroit! I really appreciate that. Your comments are always appreciated and i love that I know that you always keep it real. ☺️👍🏽
Thank you. And you are spot on about treating the support staff with respect and love. They can make a teacher's life quite miserable if you don't. Thanks again. Looking forward to your next vlog.
I'm a third grade teacher and still find your tips so helpful! Thank you for sharing! I might just put a dead plant in my classroom, it would be the only kind that could survive.
Wow! How come i just "found" ur videos! 😅 u have a lot of energy & such a great inspiration for teachers! ❤ i found ur video saying that ur leaving teaching....😢 but still enjoy watching ur videos! God bless u for ur years of teaching! ❤
Hi Julia! Glad you found me. I did leave the classroom but I now split my time between speaking, making videos, and volunteering in the schools close to my little town in NM.
Great great reminders! If you pull a rabbit out a hat, please put it into a video! I plan to up my parent-teacher relationships this year and build classroom community (with morning meetings and dialogue journals) so we are fam. I like Weird Friday - going to have to use that.
Have to comment twice.. awesome video, I'm so so excited now! I don't teach in a classroom but I do run clubs for children aged 6 to 11 here in the UK in partnership with local churches, and after watching this video I feel so inspired to try and boost my teams of volunteers and the kids.. yeah.. 2017/18.. gonna be the best year ever.. whoopwhoop!
TheUrbanFamily1 YES!! You can totally still implement these even outside of a classroom!! Thanks for the love and watching the video! Always appreciated!
Loved the thumbnail Reynold's. Always love the way you reach out to the teacher community! I love the scratch and sniff idea. Also, the singing to go to the bathroom is hilarious. Your reactions to the trucks going by. Hilarious!! I so believe in creating that school community! You amaze me friend! You need to be at 10k already!!! Your channel is the bomb dot com. Glad to call you friend. ((Hugs))
These were fantastic tips! I was dying at the description of the teacher with a decorated rolling cart. As the school SLP, I have a former band closet as my room but it's small so sometimes I'm just carrying my supplies around the hallways. I aspire to have a fancy cart!

This was so fantastic. I'm starting my first year of teaching in the Fall and this really motivated me and made me excited to reach out as the year begins! 8th grade English here I come!
alupats I'm a first year Spanish teacher! Have you tried reaching out to your department? Those are the people you'll be working closest with and they can help guide you in the right direction.
I absolutely love your channel--everything about it. Your content is so rich and informational, and I think that it can help a lot of teachers regardless of what grade they teach! For example, I will teach kindergarten which is almost the complete opposite as you, but I always learn something new from your videos! :)
That One Happy Classroom Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment! That was the goal with the channel. I want to provide support for all teachers regardless of the grade! Good luck with the first year and if I can ever be of help please let me know!
Just judging from your videos I believe you're a great teacher and I would have loved have a teacher like you ! You're so encouraging and you have so many ideas that I as a student would have loved :)
I'm going back to school to be a teacher but I've been doing Math Monday, Tactile Tuesday (sensory bins, swimming or just going outside) Word Wednesday (alphabet activities) Thoughtful Thursday ( Spiritual stuff) And Field trip Friday with my son. He starts kindergarten this year. I too enjoy alliterations. :)
All teachers do! 😂😂😂 You sound like an incredible mom. How blessed your kids are to have a mom that spends so much time and energy on them. Good luck in school! If I can ever be of any help please let me know.
Thanks Tom! I’m trying to get the word out there. Especially during this time of the year. Here in Philly it’s been cold and rainy and it makes it hard to show up to school some days. I like putting out content that hopefully get people excited. 👍🏽😊🎉
I applied for a team teaching position so I can learn something new from this style of teaching and the other teacher which will hopefully strengthen my weaknesses as a teacher. I also purchased some organization and classroom management products to make my room or area look happy and colorful.
+Omaira Moreno first I want to say how awesome your name is. Second, i too am excited about team teaching this year. My co-teacher and I balance each other well. It's been really fun to plan with her. Love that you are planning on making your room wonderful! I love working on my room. Hope your year is the best Teach!
Real Rap With The Reynolds Thanks!! I live in Puerto Rico where team teaching is new along with project based learning so it will be interesting to see how both styles work together. Here public schools are all title 1 (where I have worked the most) and the private schools are not so its tough to stay organized and find motivation. I am determined to create a bright happy organized environment so everyone that enters feels happy and ready to conquer the lesson. I know I sound like a goofy kids show but as you can see by my profile pic, I let my kid at heart out and be happy no matter what. 😂🤣😜
Thank you so much for this! This is year two for me! I had a great first year and I'm anxious to see how this one measures up. I am taking on a leadership position this year and our group coming up this year has a bit of a reputation 😂. But you're really inspiring me to just put myself out there and be spontaneous with my kiddos! Please keep giving us pep talks! 👏🏽👌🏽👏🏽✊🏽
Just found your channel recently. New subscriber. This is my favorite video I've seen so far. Looking forward to putting these tips into practice this fall!
Jeffrey Fisher Awesome thanks man for subscribing! Glad you like this video. More to come for sure and I hope the school year is great! If I can ever help please reach out!
LOVE your videos! This one is especially awesome! I love the student singing day idea! I was wondering if you, as the teacher, also sings everything or just the students.
Great tips as usual and I'm definitely going to do some of them for the year to come. Being a positive role model really matters to me. The teachers' lounge becomes a negative place in my school and it affects the whole community, in a very vicious way, because teachers don't even realize it. I understand why it takes you so many hours to edit your videos. You really do a great job. And you're getting even better. À bientôt!
A happy teacher - True story First off, GREAT name!!! Yes I agree negativity spreads so easily. I don't participate even a little, it's a slippery slope! Thanks man for noticing the edits, it's greatly appreciated!
"like Brooks in the Shawshank Redemption" LOL. That was hilarious. I didn't even need the picture for that visual. I was a tad worried about you while you were on those tracks. My first thought was 'I wonder if that is a working track?'. Be careful Reynolds! Great vid.
Davis52gether Love when people pick up on my movie references 🙂 I could relate everything to movies!! Haha I don't even think a train would come while I was there and it totally did!!
This video has put me in the back-to-school mindset. Your videos are motivating! I agree that building relationships with the kids is the best! I always try to find cool things to do the first two days of school to get to know my kids best -- what are your favorite things to do on day 1?
Really liked the tips, they were so thoughtful and positive. Definitely new interesting and fun ideas! I hope to start my year off positively and have a great year!
This was an awesome video. Very motivational and inspiring. Could you also tell us how you made those flying books decorations in your class tour video?
+Tiffany Ellis That can be the worst! I've been there. I would make every lesson super simple. You can add the excitement and the fun by being excited and getting the kids pumped up. Everything I do in my class is super simplistic, but instead of just reading our journals aloud I play music over top of what is being read. Or instead of just reading aloud together we have to read with an accent or in a really excited tone. On my best days I can make totally ordinary material seem like so much more than that. The added bonus is that I do t have to come up with really detailed and grueling lesson plans. Good luck Tiffany!
See what standards have cross over. Like if you teach ELA and Social Studies pick a book like Forge to teach for both classes then just tweak the lessons for each class but the materials stay the same.
Elementary Candidate. I Student teach in Spring of 2018. I am beyond anxious. I'm 51. Soon I will be applying for my 1st teaching job. It's coming so fast. Your videos are truly helping me. I know I am called and equipped to do this!!!! Thanks for what you do. I pray for your continued success in reaching out to us 1st timers. We need You! I need You!
phillip perry wow thank you for such a wonderful compliment! Being in 50's and starting teaching will be such a great asset to you!! Please let me know if I can ever help in anyway!!
YES!!! I felt like I wanted to start praise dancing (never tried that) #bestyoutubevideoever Also made me think of a program we had a couple of years ago with our students: "I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go." - Rachel Joy Scott The book: Rachel's Tears Site: rachelschallenge.org
+Rachel Rosales yeah Rach!!! Praise dancing😂😂😂😂 The chain reaction is a 100% real! I love loving my coworkers and it's even better that I expect zero in return because my feelings are never hurt if they don't reciprocate. Rachel I hope you have the greatest year ever!! 👍🏽👍🏾👍🏻 p. s. I'll check out that book now.
Found your channel and I've been binge watching all weekend. I'm also a high school English teacher and absolutely LOVE my job. Thanks for the tips which are great since I am starting school in a week. I also love making my room the best! The best compliment I got from a student last year was, "When I walk in your room, I just feel ahhhh (big calm sigh)." One thing I started last year that I stole from a teacher blog was an affirmation wall. I'll just link the site I took it from so you can check it out: sites.google.com/site/mrsmalmquist/classrooms/affirmation-station. My students loved it. This year I want to make it a goal to be more consistent and give them more opportunities to shout each other out. Thanks again!
I live on Pinterest !! Currently I'm not teaching but doing child Care at a resort and man it's been an amazing resource for me. And I get paid for doing "research" on Pinterest... It's a bit of an addiction haha
Real Rap With The Reynolds it totally is. I was teaching kindergarten for 2 years but now I'm back in college and they don't take teachers for just the summer where I live. But I'm gaining lots of experience and loving it. (Also, I'm excited to implement your tips next school year. Theyre more like tips for "how to have a great life"!!👌)
Each time you say "pivot" in a video, I can't help to think about that FRIENDS episode where Ross buys a new couch and gets Chandler and Rachel to help him get it up the stairs... "PIIIVOOOOTTTT!" I just laugh each time. xD
The truck antics were awesome! "Are you serious?" LOL!
"That dog over there! I'm going to tame his madness in a second!" LOL! You crack me up!
"Seriously? A whole train went by?" LOL!
Katie Heule Love that you love all my ridiculousness 😂🤣😆
As a student watching this video, I personally think it's very interesting to get more insight on what teachers think about entertaining their kids and doing what they can for us, this was an amazing video for both sides of the spectrum (teachers and students) and I love what you're doing.
(And congratulations on 5,000 subscribers!! Can't wait to see your growth)
Nataly Spud Thanks so much!! Glad it gave you some insight to how hard (some) teachers want to connect and make school interesting!

Tomorrow is our first day with students, love your list! I am pumped 💜🐼
Andi, I hope you have the best year of your life!
Heck yes, Settlers of Catan! SO needed this video before I start student teaching this year!
My goal this school year is to focus more on what is going right, rather than what is going wrong.
Call Me {Crafty} Al that's the way to do it! You will create a positive environment!

Oops... " making the CLASSROOM more appealing..."
Zelma Anderson love it!! Love all the wonderful stuff your doing and implementing in your classroom!!
Thank you for sprinkling YOUR magic.
Great ideas! Singing day will be a part of my classroom!
Your videos crack me up! I love how real you are. Rewatching and taking notes!

I love the notes idea! On the board for the cleaning crew, I'm definitely adopting that. Sprinkling magic womp womp ♡♡
Carina Freeman Just don't sprinkle any Magic on the floor for them to vacuum 🤣😁😂
I LOVE how you changed your recording background with each tip. Your vlogs are always so full of great information. I appreciate the time you take to make these videos for us!
Jackie Exley Thank you for watching and noticing the filming style of my videos! Glad the video gives you value!!
Your tips are fantastic. I do many of the things on your list. I do sing everything in my class. I enjoy your channel immensely.

Brilliant video! So positive.. and such a great inspiration. Thanks for the excellent content!

I was literally waiting for the train the whole time lol XDThank you for all the amazing tips!!!
You are my teacher personal trainer! *throws glitter*
Lil Space Freckles YES teacher trainer!! I wish there was a glitter emoji ✨ I think that's the best we've got! 🤣
Such great tips, CJ. I think having a positive attitude and going into each year with the intent of it being great really sets you up for success.
Kate The Sleepy Teacher Absolutely Kate!! Our mindset dictates so much!!
So true!
These were fantastic tips! I was dying at the description of the teacher with a decorated rolling cart. As the school SLP, I have a former band closet as my room but it's small so sometimes I'm just carrying my supplies around the hallways. I aspire to have a fancy cart!
Andrea Gallant I hope you make a fancy cart! I guarantee it will get lots of smiles, laughs, and just be a bright spot in people's day!
Great location to present your ideas! Your videos are so fun and funny!
+Mai A Thanks!! That pretty much sums up how I handle everything "fun and funny" 😁 Thank you for watching them!
Inspiring! I would love to see you in the process of your overarching plan for the year (or for a unit).. Pinterest and TPT are phenomenal, but I am so overwhelmed by 10,000 amazing ideas that I freeze up.
I just love your videos! Every time I watch them, they inspire me to try to be better each day! Plus, they are also funny.
YAY!!!! for #7!!!! Ask for help. I am good at it. It's collaboration, not comparison.
AND "Order is more comfortable than chaos!"
+Stephanie Henry I really love the collab over comparison idea. I'm totally going to use that. I'll give you credit of course 😉. Stephanie I hope you have the greatest year ever!!!

Queen de la Classroom Thanks so much, always appreciate when you watch them!!
Lol. I should take some tips from you. I am one who reinvents the wheel all the time. Makes learning fun, but more work for me :)
little lady Doing new things is fine just tweak ideas instead of reinventing things completely!
I love this video so much! Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing!
It my pleasure Shelby!
Bro! Loved this! Thank you! Starting my 2nd year and this is just in time! Gracias, Xie Xie Ni!
Wheelee's Travels Awesome hope some of them help!
LOVE your videos! This one is especially awesome! I love the student singing day idea! I was wondering if you, as the teacher, also sings everything or just the students.
Lynn Finzel I do it too. I never ask the kids to do anything that I am not willing to do myself. 🙂
Love the disappearing car toward the end. Editing magic!
Nancy Williams haha in another video a guy disappeared behind a telephone pole! Love when that stuff happens!

This video has put me in the back-to-school mindset. Your videos are motivating! I agree that building relationships with the kids is the best! I always try to find cool things to do the first two days of school to get to know my kids best -- what are your favorite things to do on day 1?
maggiemay523 a video on this topic is coming soon!
This is a kickass video! It makes me inspired to have a great school year! P.s. Your that cool teacher I aspire to be!
Eileen Yanez Awe ☺️ Thanks!! It's all about the relationships, creating fun, and magic in the classroom! You got it!
Really liked the tips, they were so thoughtful and positive. Definitely new interesting and fun ideas! I hope to start my year off positively and have a great year!

This was an awesome video. Very motivational and inspiring. Could you also tell us how you made those flying books decorations in your class tour video?
He hinted last week that there may be a video coming. We must not be the only 2 wanting the instructions.
LOL trueeee
Chip Jamerson it's still coming, sorry!!
Any tips for secondary teachers who have to prep and teach multiple subjects? Help! 😱

The added bonus is that I do t have to come up with really detailed and grueling lesson plans. Good luck Tiffany!
Real Rap With The Reynolds Thanks! Love your channel!
See what standards have cross over. Like if you teach ELA and Social Studies pick a book like Forge to teach for both classes then just tweak the lessons for each class but the materials stay the same.
Who’s the teacher you tuber you referenced? One fat teacher? I can’t find them on UA-cam
One Fab Teacher, she’s fantastic! ☺️
Omg lol thanks!
Happy New Year BOSS!🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾👊🏽🍾🍾🍾👍🏿🍾🍾

You are giving me life! I am a Alt Master's Element
I wish I could triple like this video.
GidgetSwim72 Thank you!!!
YES!!! I felt like I wanted to start praise dancing (never tried that) #bestyoutubevideoever
Also made me think of a program we had a couple of years ago with our students:
"I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same. People will never know how far a little kindness can go." - Rachel Joy Scott
The book: Rachel's Tears
Site: rachelschallenge.org
Shool 4 School Thanks for the link I'll check it out!! Hope the beginning of the school year goes well! Thanks for watching!

Life in Kafoople Land I've got to give credit to the not so secret wife for the thumbnail! It was all her!

Teachers like to drink. There! I said it!
booked4theweek haha so true!! I just did a pod cast with a buddy about teachers and drinking!
Hey Reynolds can you tell me where I can purchase custom 💵!!! I want to put my face on some money like you Dawg!! 👊🏽! Bro you are the BEST!!!
I made mine by printing out a fake oversized dollar and then put a picture of myself on top of it and made another copy. ☺️❤️
Real Rap With Reynolds Thanks Bro!👊🏽
I live on Pinterest !! Currently I'm not teaching but doing child Care at a resort and man it's been an amazing resource for me. And I get paid for doing "research" on Pinterest... It's a bit of an addiction haha
Plus, great tips, not just for highschool!! Thank you.
T- Dog haha!! Yup even childcare can help prepare you for teaching! Pinterest is totally addicting 😂
Real Rap With The Reynolds it totally is. I was teaching kindergarten for 2 years but now I'm back in college and they don't take teachers for just the summer where I live. But I'm gaining lots of experience and loving it. (Also, I'm excited to implement your tips next school year. Theyre more like tips for "how to have a great life"!!👌)
T- Dog I definitely do blur the lines of teaching and life tips! Glad they can even be helpful to you while outside of the classroom! ✌🏽
🦄 Tears... Hahaha
