My 2230 was a dog when I got it for $60. It had flower and peace sign stickers on it and the power cord had been cut. I found a pristine faceplate and ordered it and a W-22 in blonde ash wood. I also ordered a matching wood case for my 5020 cassette deck along with a matching plinth and new dust cover for my 6100 TT. My local tech shop finished the 2230’s restoration and transferred the TT into its new digs. They look outstanding. I have 1515, 2010, 2015, 2215, 2226b, 2230 and 2238b all restored and playable. Not hoarding. I’ve got 7 kids and one day each will get one if they’re nimble enough to out run their mother to the curb. 😂 Love your vids!
Excellent video - as always !!! I've been looking off & on over the years for a certain model & price...... I just picked one up a 2230 today. At an extremely reasonable price. She went in the corner for now awaiting a tear down & cleaning........ Too many other projects at the moment.
So glad I found your channel and subscribed. I'm a few miles behind you but trying to catch up. Beats crossword puzzles. Smitten with the 22XX Marantz line but also working on an Onkyo TX-4500 mkII and a couple of Kenwood KR monsters. To top it off, I'm also running some recapped KLH 17's which I just love. No degree in electrical engineering but fearless and good at reverse engineering. Looking for a 2230 that's also a disaster so I have nothing to loose. I have a finished one that started nice and a completely overhauled/restored champagne 2270. Was fascinated by the power wash! Just wanted to say thanks and good luck with this 2230 - I'll be definitely be watching and learning.
Dude, I and probably a lot of other subscribers REALLY ENJOY your content !!! Do you have time to do , say a Vintage Phonograph ??? Thanks for your content !!
Hell yeah, dude! That looks great. Nothing wrong with repro parts.. I bet anyone would be hard pressed to tell the difference between that & the original. Bummer about the original plate falling through though!
i scored an adcom gfa-555 power amp and gfp-1a preamp. hooked it up and no sound.. opened up the preamp, tapped a few times, and as it turns out the relay had some bad contacts. she sprang right to life! Now i have to try to keep from blowing my speakers with her hahaha but man she sounds good! I love old stereos!
I just subscribed to your channel. I have a Marantz 2015, and the stereo indicator bulb has burnt out again. I see that Vintage HiFi Audio has a LED version. Somewhere I got the idea that additional circuitry is required for use with the LED stereo indicator bulb. Andy truth to this? Mike in Oregon
I have a marantz 2215. Would like to equip it with bluetooth so as to replace the traditional wire connected speakers. I live in Orlando, Florida. Where can I get this done?
I have a sansui vintage receiver big boy I found along time ago it's been in my closet ...just haven't had the time to get it check out ....maybe I could send to u to check ...love old school electronics...let me kno if is possible
what's the best way to clean the input jacks on the back. Mine are green and moldy, would like to get them polished up without hurting anything. Thanks.
I just bought a Marantz 4300, and I have a few quesions: 1. Is it normal to hear a slight 60 Hz hum inside the receiver at startup? 2. Can I connect 4 Ohm speakers, as long as I keep the volume below 25%? Thanks!
I just recently found your channel and I watched all your videos on vintage audio repair. A couple of times, you mentioned having replacement stock on hand. Could you do a video on the most common components you recommend to keep in stock. Also, I know you covered this in a video already, but could you do a more intense video on the ordering process through Mouser and / or Digi-key? I have a Pioneer SX 650 that I want to restore. I went to audiokarma and copied the parts list for the SX 650. Every time I go to Mouser to order the parts, they are either out or no listing at all. And I'm using their part numbers. I like to know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks
This is a good idea for a quick video. I'll consider doing something where I show my "parts bin" and explain what I keep around. Check the date on that parts list. What happens all the time in electronics is parts go obsolete, so you might be using an old list that needs to be updated. If it's from 5 or 10 years ago there will probably be issues. I almost always just manually go through service manuals and add to my cart as I go. It's tedious and I almost always miss something, but that's just how I do it.
@@AHFixIt WOW!!! I went through the Marantz 2235B service manual steps for audio adjustments (p. 5) and the heat is now minimal. Thank you so much for the guidance. How do these parameters get so much out of limits?
I really want to love this faceplate. But I’m a stickler for details and on close inspection the “a” in Marantz isn’t right. Look at them side by side and you’ll see what I mean. I’m sure most people would never notice, but you can’t unsee it once you do.
Send them a message through their website and ask! Looks like there is only black and silver at this time but maybe they would consider adding that to their product line
Hey how are you guys fails you are not find a soul Marantz Marantz made famous with your mind is an imitation soul sold his company to super scope they went to China overseas and built units that are not comparable to anything on the market high end at the time that was four years and you’re 22 series that’s not an original Marantz. By a pioneer no better or less you need a Waxman many models Nayeli that in the years that those are being built sign one form you but you got garbage and anyone that knows we’re not buying rounds from the guy I mean that was years most people
Great to see a young guy like to you to pursue this lost art!!! I myself love vintage Hi Fi. Keep up the great luv you have for this art!🎼🎶🔉
Great company and those boxes! They set me up w/ a beautiful 2325 black anno faceplate.
👍🏻😎Nice to see some reproduction parts for these vintage Marantz receivers.

Well done....
Shout out to Ross on the neat packaging. I am glad you are getting what you need for this receiver
Stunning Faceplate, very nice indeed
Nice speakers. Henry Kloss was a great electrical engineer. His audio circuit designs were brilliant.
Great to watch plus informative
Wow 🤩. I had no idea these guys existed ! Thanks for sharing this, what a great resource.

That is superb to see new parts for vintage hifi .
Did not have to wait long. Thank you very much!
Great progress on this Marantz 2230
Awesome! Just got an almost mint condition 2238B as a service exchange and may need to look at this web site!
Bonus, and your supporting American Business which looks like there growing. 👍
Great tip for the WC-22! I’ll be checking the site out for one
They sent me knobs for a marantz mr-220. Excellent products.

An entire cottage industry dedicated to vintage consumer electronics esoterica.
Maybe there is hope Post COVID CE.
Instant sub! Great content, thank you

The french version of craigslist is craigslist. Used it much in Paris. Craigslist is world wide.

1,000 to 2,000 grit sandpaper.
That's so cool!!

Thanks so much for the quick reply. You are probably right, and the parts list I'm using is too old.
I just wish they faceplates would come with the glass.
the prices are crazy!!😫
How's the Jaguar coming?
Zero progress. Waiting for the weather to warm up!
@@AHFixIt I was wondering as well, don't blame you a bit for putting it aside during the winter though.
AH-Fix-It What is that name and artist playing while you opened the box?
Mr AH-Fix-It, what can you recommend for my Marantz 2235B running too hot?
Your amplifier bias might be out of spec. Check and set per the service manual.
@@AHFixIt Thank you. Will do.

Makes you wonder if Marantz told them that they need to make them slightly different.
Do you know if they make reproduction champagne faceplates?
Send them a message through their website and ask! Looks like there is only black and silver at this time but maybe they would consider adding that to their product line
man that site is great but their shipping to Canada is literally a rip off. $50 to mail a knob? Come on
Hell I will buy it.
Now if they only had the clear cover.
Biggest difference between original & reproduction is original is etched & repro is silk screened.
There was too much shame. I still have my bent up one.
this is the price you pay for a good second hand 2230 receiver!
Not original so the value now will depreciate on all vintage pioneer and Marantz receivers. Sad

For what you guys spend on Marantz you could buy real equipment.
