Great video on explaining the new ON1 choices. I am a long time legacy owner of ON1 Plus and regularly use the benefits of the program. Under the new program layout, will I be loosing ON1 Plus if I don’t go to the subscription model? I only use ON1 as a stand alone, no plug ins. Thanks for all the information you provide.
Paul thank you for this question and from everything that I can tell on their website, ON1 Plus is still offered as a standalone membership. This means if you are a perpetual license user and you are also subscribed to ON1 Plus, as long as you pay your monthly/annual subscription price to ON1 Plus you will keep the Plus membership.
Thanks!! Just bought one of these using your code. Since they were already on sale, it didnt give me a further discounted price. Thanks for the review, it was really helpful.
I’m just happy my content was able to help you make a decision, and it makes sense that the discount didn’t work, because they can’t just give the software away for free.
Well Danny I appreciate your straight forward reply! Now if you want to save some money on this years program, you should consider using my coupon code.

Now try to make sense of what happens for those of us grandfathered in to the Pro Plus subscription. I can't make heads or tails of it and am getting tired of the pressure emails to upgrade to the Everything Plus.
Yeah that is a little hard to recommend what is a good solution for you. I would say if you are good on your current plan, then stay with it and ignore the emails that keep asking you to change. ON1 is a business and they will always try to move customers in the direction the business is going. Hi Chris - Excellent video! Quick question. For the Everything Subscription, you noted the sale price is $90 for the 2024 year. What does the subsequent year pricing look like? I suspect you don't have a crystal ball, but do software upgrade prices under the subscription model typically jump up excessively the next year (like to $150) or should I expect something around $90 annually?
Thank you for the support and great question! I don’t have any insider information on the upgrade price for next year, but historically after looking through my orders the price for upgrading is about $80 right now. It was less expensive previously, but I am not sure we will see those prices again. Where I think the true value is with picking up ON1 is that you keep the software forever. If you choose it to upgrade to the 2025 version next year, you will always have the 2024 version. Also if you skip a year (like not getting the 2025 version) you still only pay the upgrade fee for that year. Now this is all subject to change if ON1 decides to, but that is how it works right now. I hope this helps.
Yes! You can keep both versions of ON1 Installed on your computer and jump between the two programs. I personally have both installed on my computer right now (Beta/Pre-release build) and I jump between them to see how things have changed. I don't think this behavior will change with the release of 2024.
Thank you for the feedback! As for the shirt, I wonder why they don't sell it on their website. Maybe someday it will come with the Delux version of ON1. LOL
Hi Chris, just saw a suggestion for your link here and I watched it and I really enjoyed your laid back easy to listen to narrative! You have a great media voice that is easy to listen to and I SUBSCRIBED! I have used On1 since the started and used to give out free versions to photographers who were on Google + many years ago. I like it but this past year did not upgrade as my computer was an older model and did not have the specs for the 2023 Raw version to run properly. I have a new super fast and up to date PC now and wanted to upgrade and you video was very informative. Thanks! I am like you and use plugins and will go with the annual full subscription model. In the past I got so much out of the On1 Plus membership as far as tutorials and free extras that the Pro instructors give out. Keep up the great work!
Hey Chris(great name by the way) thank you for the awesome comment. I love using ON1 because I think it is a great program for the features you get with it. I always love hearing from legacy users because I learn so much from them. Like I had no idea that the software was free once upon a time for Google + users. I love working in the standalone version, but I do use it as a photoshop plugin when I am working on a larger raster project. Thank you for the Subscribe and I hope to keep bringing useful content.
Are you sure about that "log out / log on" recommendation? I know DxO, for example, does not have this capability. If you decommission a computer that had it installed, that license is still consumed. If you add a computer to your lineup and need to install it, but have hit the max, you need to contact DxO support to open the license up for you. On1 might operate similarly.
Wow thank you for this question. I was able to confirm the login and logout of activations even if you don't have access to your computer anymore. Unlike DxO, you do not need to contact customer support, instead you just log into your account and select the product you need to reset the product key for. Here is a link to the information on the ON1 website. I will admit the post is a little dated, but the technique is still the same. on1help.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/235452368-How-to-deactivate-reset-all-seats-for-ON1-Photo-RAW
I just wanted to make a correction to the computer activations for ON1 Photo Raw MAX version. You acually only get 3 computer activations with this version instead of 5. Sorry for the confusion. I will also note that the price for the MAX and Non-Max perpetual license are sale prices. Those prices may go up later on down the line.
ON1 does offer a refund within 30 days of receiving PR2024, so if there are too many issues with the program you can always ask for your money back in that 30 day window. They also offer a 30 day trial to the software once it is released. This would give someone the chance to test it out with their own images and then make a purchase if they think it works for them.
Just a warning. I decided to move from perpetual license to the subscription model. Unfortunately, this has introduced some authorization problems. I am working with ON1 to resolve them, but anyone who makes this change might want to tread carefully. I will try to post the resolution once I get it resolved. Basically, I get a code 500 error and cannot log in. More information later. Thank you for this review… I think it sums up the pricing perfectly. I went with the ON1 Plus subscription since I am not using more than one computer and wanted to share files. My photo library is large, so the 1TB will help.
Mark thank you for sharing this information. When I switched to the subscription model, I didn't run into that challenge and I am confident the team at ON1 will get that resolved. It sounds like it is just a network communication issue which should be simple enough. I think you will like the subscription model and if you ever decide to get another computer, you will have access to the photos you synch with the cloud service. Thank you for the comment and I wish you the best.
There are numerous complaints and Chris will agree because we had this conversation ON1 Sync from your tablet to your desktop just doesn’t work and for a year they never fixed it at least not that i have heard of
Chris... After a lot of back and forth, I reviewed the log file and determined that they had somehow lost my licensing ID. In the end, I had ON1 cancel my subscription on my account and I created a new account through which i repurchased the subscription (used your link). Everything is now working perfectly on all my machines. I will keep the old account since it has all my perpetual licenses and assets, but will use the subscription since I want the Cloud Sync capability, especially when I am traveling. I am looking forward to your upcoming videos as you seem to the the most prolific with ON1 content.
@@Scubabuddy9958 I hope they have fixed the cloud sync Chris will admit as we have discussed it before we never got it to work so hopefully they fixed it but haven’t mentioned it in their promos yet
@@Scubabuddy9958 Thank you for the follow up and I am sorry to hear that they were not able to resolve that issue with your initial account. That is odd, because when I swtiched I didn't have any issues. Maybe you can ask ON1 to move everything over to your new account so you can have everything consolidated. I am looking forward to this release of ON1 and making content around it, because I think this release will come with some new editing strategys with Brilliance AI and the recommend AI presets. We will see, and I truly appreciate your support.
I just wanted to point out that ON1 max has only 3 activations and not 5. I bought max to early and have missed out on your discount code, But I have passed it on to my friends. I also believe that the UK tax which is 20% is included in this purchase. Where as in the passed I paid the tax and found a discount code 20% that paid for the tax
Thank you for pointing that out and explains the tax issue. I will get the computer activations updated, because for some reason I thought it was the same as the plus everything subscription. I appreciate you sharing my coupon code with others that is truly appreciated
Hey Chris, just wanted to let ya know that I caved and went for the cheapest option using your discount code! What changed my mind was the new UI design. 😎 (I’ll also admit to the FOMO syndrome! 😂)
That whole FOMO thing is real. I think this release is going to be great for fans of the program. If it moves faster and brilliance AI really is as good as it seems, this could be a solid move for ON1. You know I love the software and support the company as best I can so my hope is this release actually silences the naysayers on the speed of the program.
I would check to see if your computer meets the tech specs listed on this page: www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/ if it does not, then you may be having performance issues based on compatibility.
That is not a bad idea. By then we will have Likely received some updates to the program as well. Initial releases are not always as stable as current releases
Well Chris... I finally had to bite the bullet, I just bought the Everything Plus subscription. Not sure if I'm happy about it, or not, but I desperately needed better edge masking than Luminar Neo has for shooting through trees into a really bright beach sky. The round trip from Mylio is not smooth however. I have to either remember where the original came from (folder wise) in order to put it back, or drop it into an inbox folder and then manually move it later. But, I will not use the ON1 DAM as it still has an absolutely useless sync to mobile. Maybe the LrC DAM and ON1 editor is the answer... 🙂
Marc I realize this is hard for you. Moving to ON1 from Mylio is difficult and I am not sure what the right answer is for that workflow. I would suggest using LrC as your DAM and then using the ON1 Effects plugin from LrC or photoshop. Now if I am be honest, I think if you really want to make detailed selections you should really be using Photoshop and Lumanzia or the TK panel to mask high contrast areas like you are talking about. All that said, I do think ON1 is a fantastic program and it has strengths that are not found in the other programs like being able to add multiple effects to a RAW file and still retain the RAW characteristics to test out camera profiles, correct exposure and white balance if necessary. Still great to hear, and the Plus membership is truly worth the investment. I use that thing a lot.
@@FreeWillPhotos Yes, it was a tough pill to swallow, as is the potential of going back to Adobe, but, things are what they are. Editing with ON1 Effects from Lrc > Ps > ON1 Effects and back is pretty nice with Smart Objects. I still have my 20 gb account with Adobe and have tested this extensively. It seems pretty smooth, and who knows... maybe someday ON1 can figure of sync and mobile editing as well as Adobe.
Yea the workflow to move between LrC > PS > ON1 Effects is seamless. I still think the masking options in PS will give you the best results and I would only suggest ON1 Effects if you need a specific filter/effect. With the situation you mentioned earlier for getting ON1, I would recommend looking into the TK plug-in Panel for PS.
Thank you for the fantastic detail in your video, which is why I just subscribed. I am now using DaVinci Resolve and walking away from Adobe's "subscription" philosophy. I use Photoshop quite often, and just wanted to ask point-blank: would you consider ON1 Photo RAW 2024 (stand alone) a good replacement for Photoshop? My apology if it seems to be a "d-uh" question, but I really love bottom lining things.
Thank you for the subscription and the comment! To be honest, ON1 is more of a replacement for Lightroom and I would recommend Affinity Photo for a robust layer editor like photoshop. There are some things you can do in ON1 that would keep you from needing to go into Photoshop, but Affinity photo will have a much smoother workflow, and it would be more similar to Photoshop. ON1 does not have gradient maps, the ability to apply a gradient, or a comprehensive color grading effect. Affinity photo does have all of these things and it is a one time purchase. I hope this helps!
@@bojon0307 No problem, and I hope you find a solution that works for you. Keep in mind that if you do mobile editing, ON1 does not have a great solution compared to Lr Mobile. I hope they imporve this in the future, but as of right now it is not as stable or powerful and only allows you to use a few of the effects found in the desktop application.
With ON1 you don’t have to pay for updates. So any updates to the 2024 version, you will not pay for. However if you decide to purchase the 2025 version next year that is considered an upgrade which you do have to pay for. Now if you purchase the perpetual license then you own that version and all of the updates that came out with that version forever. Now if you want to get the latest version every year, it only costs $80 to upgrade each year to own it forever. That is the cost of 4-8 months of an Adobe subscription, and that is a one off payment. If the next version does not interest you, then you can skip it and still have access to the software. ON1 is truly the most cost effective photo editor on the market
are ALL PROGRAMS COMPATIBLE with : macOS Big Sur v 11.7.10; iMac 5k Retina Late 2014; Processor 4 QHZ Quad Core Intel Core 7; Memory 32GB 1600 MHZ-DDR3; Graphic- AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB? Enjoy your videos and dedication.....Thank you for you reply...... B
Thank you for the support and sorry for the delay in response. In short yes your computer is compatible ON1 2024, but the OS and the processor are on the minimum spec side which means it may hinder performance. Everything else in your machine is good to go I think based on the tech specs found on this page: www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/
I'm out. This is no different than last year's deceptive marketing where if you wanted to use the plugins in another program, then you had to shell out more money. The pricing structure is the same as buying two separate programs, the "plugins" and then "Photo Raw". I know you probably don't want to hear me gripe, but Like you said, "don't buy it" and I won't.
Tony I fully understand your reasoning and don't mind your perspective. To be fair the upgrade price of MAX is really only the cost of the professional plugin series pack. I think this is ON1's way of saying if you use plugins at all, you can upgrade as if you were only buying plugins, and you get the standalone version for free. Now if you don't use plugins, then you can get the Non-Max upgrade version for ~$64 with my coupon code, and you own the software forever. You will always have to pay a little bit more up front to keeps something forever. With that said, I think you make a great point that many people feel and would agree with. Thank you for sharing!
I am primarily a Capture One user but I see the upgrade price to ON1 2024 as very reasonable even before you include Will's discount code. If I wanted the plugins you expect to pay more. The improvements in this version look very good especially the UI, speed improvements and hopefully highlight recovery.
I like the product and the new features, but now they are basically the same price as Adobe, and frankly, just not as good. The funky sync feature and mobile editor are so bad they aren't even 2nd or 3rd place to Adobe. Very disappointing, especially for the money. Sorry to make this financial, but ON1 is just not ready to knock Adobe off it's pedestal.
Thanks Marc, I certainly agree with you on the mobile application standpoint because I have not been able to get that to work for me at all. From the pricing perspective, what do you think the pricing model should be for this software? After looking at the price of the other leading photo editors that offer a perpetual license, ON1is the most cost effective editor on the market. I do think that the software has some room to develop, but it is good for editing, especially if you are new to photography. As the company improves the software and hopefully the mobile app will too. I think ON1 understands that they a lot of work to do with making the stronger, but they are moving in the right direction. Still I personally value your comments and opinions on the pricing because I know that is a sticking point for the program and company. I hope at some point their PR team will put out some information on why they went with the pricing options that they did, but we can't make them do that. All we can do is decide if we want to invest in the program.
@@FreeWillPhotos I agree with you completely, but we've lived through new feature after new feature with an unstable product. Now that it's stable they want us to pay almost the same price as Adobe, not including the perpetuals of course, but have haven't once looked at the mobile issues, not the sync issues. If they want to compete with Adobe, and I do think they are poised to do so, then they need to get these two parts in order. The rest of the product is great. I just don';t want to carry around a $6500 notebook, when an iPad will do just fine.
@@marcrjacobsYea I will be extremly happy when they get the mobile application corrected. When it comes to price the subscription model is a little high, but the perpetual price I think is very competitive compared to the other programs that offer a perpetual option
I ditched everything that has a subscription , that is why I moved to On1… if they fully switch to subscription for the standalone, I for one will move on.
On1 have frequently said they will /always/ offer both options - purchase or subscription. I see no reason to doubt them as they have shown in the past to be an honourable company to deal with.
I don’t think ON1 is going to ditch the perpetual license, I think they offer the subscription options because they do have some services that are subscription based. Truly with the subscriptions you get the software plus some extras. That could be its own challenge, but I don’t see them moving away from the perpetual license. But it is good for you to know where your line is.
Yes they have said this a few times, and they have held up on that statement. I don’t think they will ditch the perpetual license either, but I do understand people’s concern.
It is almost like a shakedown with lots of these tech and other companies, at one point I had like 30 monthly subscriptions. I cancelled them all except my phone/isp and switched to alternative. There will always be alternatives out there, it is just the matter of us adopting to “lesser”. I do not mid lesser. I ditched a bunch of apple products, the watch, ipad… i only have an iphone for now…
I understand that, and you are in the best position to make the decision on where your money is invested. I hope you find the things that fit your workflow and financial structure.
Please! This company should be ashamed of themselves for offering a FIX as a new pay for version! The last version is severely flawed and useless due to its absurd slow function. That should have been FIXED vs trying to screw their customers for 160.00!!! I’ll stick with the king on the block PS to avoid this greed!
I won’t disagree that this version comes with a lot of fixes from previous versions. The good news is that you have a solid editor. I hope it continues to work for you!
@@FreeWillPhotos unless previous buyers get a steep discount for the 2024 repaired version, they can stick this…….It’s a matter of principle and a direct indication that they are just concerned with profits.
Not this time! On1 is too focussed on landscapes. I don't shoot landscapes. I shoot macro and still life. Not interested in 'occudrone' skies for either.
I could see how they appear more focused on landscape and portraits. I think they could do a better job at highlighting some of the other genres of photography that ON1 does support.
Hey Chris it seems everyone is bailing on ON1 they have some how got the idea they are now competition for Adobe Make me laugh I just switched to adobe after being a loyal ON1 fan for 5+ years but due to ON1’s arrogance that they are as good as adobe which obviously are not and their cloud sync doesn’t work I just went away and the adobe model just works from a laptop to a ipad and back to my desktop it just works. I am afraid to say that ON1 used to be a cheaper alternative to Adobe but now cost vs features just doesn’t seem to add up. Sorry but I will not be doing the upgrade and will be hoping to hopefully see you doing adobe videos for lightroom and photoshop as I like you videos more than most but if you are going to be an ON1 only streamer I guess you will lose a subscriber as well 😢
Yea I have heard a lot of people say they are going to switch to Adobe because price is always hard to overcome with ON1. Adobe is a hard company to compete with and I do agree LrC and Photoshop just work. I personally use LrC and Photoshop too, but I am not sure what content I would be able to make around those programs because 95% of what I do in them are presets or Actions from other creators. Is there something specific that you would like to see about LrC or Photoshop? I would hate to lose you as. a subscriber, but I do understand that if the content I make is not serving you, you should go find someone that can. With that said, you can always come by from time to time just to see how things are going, because I do want to branch out into other programs like Affinity Photo and the Nik Collection. So if you have either of those programs, maybe I can still serve you some content on those things.
@@FreeWillPhotos Well I would be interested in using the portrait masks or the sky Changing options in LRC and photoshop how to create a stunning high Contrast B&W image. And yes I am considering the new NIK collection I used to have the old one so doing some research. Also the new Generative AI in Photoshop 2024 Beta. All of these would be good
Not this time! On1 is too focussed on landscapes. I don't shoot landscapes. I shoot macro and still life. Not interested in 'occudrone' skies for either.
That is fair because I find it hard to edit Macro photos with the program. I think it is a little bit of an all around program, but they do have a huge focus on Landscape editing.
Hi guys, why are you thinking "... it's hard to edit macro..." with On1? I'm shooting macro too and looking for non subscription alternative for Lightroom. So, why this software is not good?
@@pdw7165 I've had white balance issues when using the eye dropper tool on an image. Their focus stacking is limited to 12 images. Their warp tool kinda sucks. If you want a non subscription based software that has better white balance, better focus stacking than Photoshop and better warp tools, you might want to look at Affinity Photo. It's more 'Photoshop like' but is generally faster and will run many Photoshop plugins.
@@pdw7165The software works great for Macro, you just wont be able to use all of the AI tools because it will be hard for the AI to find and select segments of the image. If you are good with masking then this is a perfect tool for macro photos without a subscription.
Thanks!

On Sale to buy something you can’t actually see work then the price goes up after they find all the bugs they haven’t fixed a. ON1 reaccuring issue
Thank you - best explanation I've heard!
Thank you for this comment that was my goal!
I appreciate you sharing my coupon code with others that is truly appreciated
love the video
Thank you!
On1 photo raw 2023 alway make my iMac high temperature (hot) when it's running . I don't know what's going on with them.
I would check to see if your computer meets the tech specs listed on this page: www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/ if it does not, then you may be having performance issues based on compatibility.
Thanks for the info Mark. I will probably wait for Black Friday where they might lower the price and I won't forget your coupon as well-:)
That is not a bad idea. By then we will have Likely received some updates to the program as well. Initial releases are not always as stable as current releases
I will be getting the Standalone version for $79.99 USD.
I will also use your code for the discount
Mark that sounds great on both fronts. I appreciate the support and I think you will really enjoy this version of the software.
BTW... thanks for the discount code!
No problem and thank you for supporting the channel.
@@FreeWillPhotos thanks, I'll take a look at it
Thanks for the news and the 20% off coupon
No problem. Thank you for the comment and I hope this was helpful.
@@FreeWillPhotos I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the information. I will look at Affinity.
If I have to pay once a year for an update, I will get back to LrC Abo
Everything else in your machine is good to go I think based on the tech specs found on this page: www.on1.com/products/photo-raw/
thank you so much for your kind response

@@FreeWillPhotos I agree with that
I ditched everything that has a subscription , that is why I moved to On1… if they fully switch to subscription for the standalone, I for one will move on.
All of these would be good
@@DMW5533 Ok. I took a note of all your requests and I will see how I can start creating content around those items.
@@FreeWillPhotos thank you Chris
