- A DC clamp meter (a type of #multimeter) is an indispensable tool for the DIY solar power enthusiast. It is a fast easy way to test live solar panels for faults, check inverter current draw, calibrate instruments and more. In this video I will briefly describe the most basic operating procedures for a DC AC clamp multimeter. Hope this video helps you out.
The PN200 smart clamp meter was provided by ANENG for test, review and evaluation. I get zero commissions for sales, only providing the review and my thoughts. If you like the meter, the product page is linked below. Thanks for watching!

I bought TWO of these meters and because I have a vision problem. I especially appreciate the large display with a back light. It's easy to use.
The instruction sheet is small and I may have misplaced it or something, but the only sheet I had was in Chinese however, doing a search, I ran across your video and it is excellent, you are concise and explicit and succinct in your description and thanks to your help in the comments I have used your link to order another one and have it sent to my son.
My vision difficulties make it difficult for me to see the small numbers and to know what I have selected so I memorize the button pushes. Early in my career I worked as a maintenance electrician so I have owned many meters but if you are not doing something every day it's not as fluid.
Like you mentioned, I also usually managed to operate meters with trial and error memory but I have to go a step further because I can't see the small indicators to know exactly what setting I have selected, that's where my memorization comes in even more so for me. On this particular meter, I know if you turn the dial to the center ( diode area ) and push SEL three times it sets up continuity. The beep is very loud and noticeable, which also helps in my case. Also you don't have to constantly hold down any button. when you use NEC to check for current presence. Once NEC is dialed in. You can check as much as you like.
As you mentioned in your review the cables set up that is sent with the meter is the best I've seen over the years. Superior to even more expensive meters that I've purchased.
I clicked on the link you supplied in your description and bought another meter so I can probably get a screenshot once my son receives that but if you want to send one that would be fantastic but no matter you've been a great help and it's a great review.
@neilreith7294 That works, you have it fine tuned and sorted out. The display is pretty good on this meter. Thanks for clicking on the link - if you want to email (it's on the about page) I will send snapshots of both sides of the english manual. Otherwise, your son can probably do it. -Dave
What a Awesome Tool 🔧 👏
@rickybritton7212 I liked this thing, and still use it in the workshop. Amazing what it can do for relatively reasonable costs
Once again, I thank you your demonstration was excellent and your follow up helping me with my situation was also top-notch. I did contact the company and they were kind enough to send me a PDF and I was impressed that that was possible to deal with a big company for even minor Complications good job. Thanks again.
@neilreith7294 You are welcome sir. Thanks for the good feedback. I am also impressed that that they sent a manual - that's the kind of support all electronics companies should provide. Excellent!
Thank you for your great demonstration. I bought an ANENG PN200 and liked it. I'm thinking about buying one for my son however it came with only one sheet of instructions in Chinese. I don't know if it should've had a manual or at least a sheet in English or not I've tried to contact the company so far no luck I've tried searching for the manual online, do you have any idea where I can secure an English version of the instructions for this instrument that you used in this video? ANENG PN200
thank you
(I do have a vision difficulties, so it's hard for me to see the small indicators. Therefore, I need to understand the selection of the buttons to know what I'm doing.)
@neilreith7294 Hello, sorry about the difficulties - I will try to help if I can. Any questions about the functions, I can post answers here, it might help others too.
Also, this meter came with a very small english manual. I don't say it covers every feature, but kind of an overview and specifications. If you want, I can send a photo of the pages. Basically I just kind of figured out the meter by pressing buttons, which is my standard procedure !
How do you set the meter for dc versus ac and vice versa? Thank you kindly?
@stevegill866 Hello, press the SET button after selecting the Amps range, by default the display shows DC, after pressing the button it should show "AC"
@@solarpoweredge Thank you so much!
@stevegill866 Welcome!!!
Positive what colour?
@gnking4rtlov3r71 Hello, positive is usually red. For a clamp meter amperage measurement, the direction of current flow is indicated by a positive or negative readout on the display. You can clamp any single wire positive or negative to get a reading. Hope that helps
