Spraying Turpenoid over Charcoal to get awesome textures and patterns. Super fun! Word of the day is "Cool" lol I said it way to many times!
I enjoyed this charcoal drawing technique and will continue using it to get different textures in future drawings.

There is mayhem next door, "let's put a little charcoal here" 😁
Kid screaming for his life. Talks about motorcycle😂
like he said- reminds him of childhood
This is a great video but it WON"T work if you try to spray the turpenoid on any charcoal pencil. Doesn't matter if it's one brand or another, I tried out lots. Or charcoal blocks like the General's one. I used the same paper that Bradwyn did and it only worked when I used the vine charcoal. And it won't work if you grind down your charcoal pencils which is what I tried to do first. So you'd need to get the charcoal powder for those results. But it was fun experimenting!
Thank you so much! I’ve always wondered how these effects are created
I've always wanted this effect. Thank you!!
Try Acetone, it will evaporate even quicker and leave no yellowing or residue.
Ryan Stalsby Art - thanks now I know what to do with my bottle of acetone in my art class
doesn't acetone have a spiky and harmful odor?
Hey I've tried acetone on compressed charcoal and it's not working, any help?
Misael Ortega probably pushing too much charcoal into the grain of the paper, it’s not going to cut through pure black necessarily, works great with powder and more subtle effects and brushes across the surface
@@RyanStalsbyArt thanks, but it still doesn't work.
Yeah that is pretty cool… It probably helps set the charcoal as well, this probably also works on pastel! Thanks for sharing :-)
I got goosebums from the sound
ASMR 😊
Wow! That is neat! It would make trees look interesting
That will work great for Duck feathers, birds in water, stuff like that... Cool trick...
are you supposed to use any sort of fixer after the spray dries?
Great informative, video, Brad. I still have only drawn in graphite. Haven't wanted to get my hands that dirty with charcoal yet......but there's no denying how easy it is to get dark tones with it. Can't wait for your next video as always. Keep it up. - Jeff
Okay, this cleared up everything. I always wondered how they did that, haha. Thank you so much!
Subscribed!
Yeah it is cool 😎 thanks for sharing this tip with us. Big drops looks like land of moon.
I have never heard of this technique🤔 very cool!!!!!
Also, I giggled when you were distracted by the motorcycle🤭 distracted is my middle name! I enjoyed the story, too.
Thank you for sharing!
New subscriber, JUST found you!
Giveing it time to mingle with the charcoal, has a great effect. Thanks
Appreciate the Harley mention as well as the melodic fingering interlude @3:14 ! Yo -- Thanks for taking time brother!
i love it too I wonder if it works with graphite powder too would be so cool
Check out charcoal portraits from Casey Baugh, you will love them ;)
@Mallantha Caflorin is it the same method?
@Mallantha Caflorin casey uses acetone
Yeahhh i love his paintings
@@misaelortega653 I was looking everywhere what he uses and now I found it! Haha
It’s even a more dramatic effect when you mix powdered charcoal with turpenoid and apply it to wet paper. It’s important to tape the paper down first, then wet with a sponge so that no pools of water are on the surface, the drop the mixed turn and charcoal onto the surface. Let this dry and erase and change the way you want.
so cool, just what i need for a charcoal drawing i am doing.thanks
Awesome Technique..!!
Thank you i was trying to find out how to give this impression ,,,😍
Why the Turpenoid as well as Water? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but i am new to all this.
Turpentine will give yellow stains after a while, because it contains oil
Very nice
your voice is amazing lol
That was so cool!! I tried it out and will definitely be incorporating it into my drawings
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out Yukiko!
@@bradwynn I also tried some variations where i painted the turpenoid with a brush and i thought it created some cool different textures that way. wish i could share a photo, but i don't think comments let me do that. anyways, thanks again!
Yukiko that doesn’t sound cool though
@@bradwynn oh sorry :/ i thought it was kinda fun to experiment with different ways to apply the turpenoid
That’s awesome! I’m a fan of testing things out. I’ve been wanting to use liquid charcoal lately
love this, informative and very nice hands lol. i have surgical spirit in a spray bottle which i am going to try right now! am also going to try it on a coloured background as it's what i need for some steampunk stuff. thank you xxx
acetone ( nail varnish remover ) works even better.
love this!!!!
Thanks yor this cool tip.
What happens when ones finished dust wise? Can one spray fix? Will it all smudge. Even when framed, one sometimes has to leave a space gully behind a window mount to the falling graphite.
Lol he's so stoned
This would be a technique to try for rocky surfaces or beaches. I can imagine it being used for subjects with water meeting these surfaces.
I wonder if this will work with liquid pencil?
Casey Baugh uses acetone with charcoal, it looks AWESOME!
Thank you.
Can it work with Gamsol (Mineral Spirits)?
Heyy man can we use turpentine oil as a substitute for turpenoid??
1.30 - definately Harley :P
I was looking for this effect, thanks! Never used powder graphite, running to the shop right now!
thanks its like making cells with silicone
Is the paper a watercolour paper or a drawing paper?
nice, I read one artist uses Alcohol!
Thank you. Good Tip♡♡
Watt's Atelier: The best!!!
Ummmm.....no, actually fuck no. Watts is nice for illustration, it's not a fine art school. Robert Watts is a great teacher, not Jeff. Jeff just rambles on and on about himself and how awesome his school is?Grand Central Academy,Angel Academy, Florence Atelier and Safe House Atelier are damn good schools and affordable. Google the cast drawings and paintings and figure drawings from all of the schools I mentioned. You will see a huge difference in quality from Watts compared to the academies I listed.
What to spray? Alcohol or water ??? I am Iranian, write their names for me
very cool
hey brad this so cool are gonna release a WnD this sunday like you mentioned in the last one
What brand and how soft is the vine charcoal that you use?
what about paint thiner or acetone? or silicone?
I'm curious about silicone and different liquid mediums. Might try to see what wd40 does.
So would this work with graphite powder?
Hello,
I subscribed to your page that I like a lot. thank you for your demonstration.
May I ask you a question because I do not understand well, not speaking English well.
Do you put terebentine or terebentine + water in your bottle?
thank you so much
have a nice day
Joss France, French Riviera
is this better than acetone ?
Thanks for sharing! Are you experimenting with drawing paper or is it illustration board?
Why not water?
Is terpentine and Terpenoid different, cause it isn't working with turpentine, btw it has a very unbearable smell 😖😖
so cool!! Thanks for sharing! Can you tell me what paper you use for charcoal drawing? I did some charcoal drawings of horses a few years ago but hated every paper I tried ( way too much texture.)
Cathy Mumford , Try some Bristol paper, which is a very smooth paper; there are several brand (Canson, Fabriano, Strathmore, etc). Also are very good for charcoal and graphite drawings, but too much expensive, any Hot Press watercolor paper, like Canson Mouline du Roy, Arches hot press (pink block).
I think the manufacturers of of the Turpenoid product have taken something out of the chemical ingredients. Because I purchased exactly the same brand and used the same technique, but the sprayed Turpenoid sat on the paper and charcoal without having any effect at all. This was disappointing. Great artwork though.
Brian F Try acetone if turpenoid does not work. Most nail polish removers work great! Try it on a test sheet before applying to an actual drawing. Have fun!
I followed your video but couldn’t get the effects…bummer
Sir sent both spray name
👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Use this technique for on of ur wake and drawd
I had no idea Jesse Pinkman did art tutorials.
Your welcome
Eat sleep rave repeat!
Some uses acetone to make that effects 😍❤️
(They put acetone in a spray bottle)
~Exciting~
Lmao😂

Your comment adds nothing of interest.
Laurel Lazar but if his comment had no value your reply did as well and so on
@@plants5743 hahahahahahahahahaha I'm sure I'm not the first to tell you how appropriate your surname is, and so on.
Laurel Lazar actually you are because your so immature 🥔
What is turpenoid? Google gives me same translation in my language and theres no store to buy it? Tried with nail polisher but I guess it has small amount of acetone in it these days so it does not give similar effects...
Turpenoid is a odorless turpentine substitute available in every art supply in the states.
