I was wondering also about the weight of the top and the reduction in gas mileage because of the weight and wind resistance at speed and also any top heavy feeling or easier roll over possibility feeling or during high winds on the highway. I've looked on the net it seems these fiberglass tops are quite heavy nearing 1000 lbs. I have a 96 15 pass Ford that I am making into a fun road trip light camping lounge like party van so I am keeping the factory low roof plus I pull a boat sometimes and these old 15 pass have a roll over concern and the extra weight and I live at 6000 feet elevation so the thin air makes the engine loose about 20 percent power so... I've removed the back 4 person bench and am repositioning the factory 3 3-person benches into more of a "C" shape so it's like a lounge area back there and covering the old carpet with new and a new headliner and seat covers and led lights and subwoofers. Your so very cool with your set up. Thank you for sharing your awesomeness. I am planning to get the high top as well with my 2005 Gmc and have a very bad spinal condition so just been looking forward with getting that but just trying to save so I can make that possible. Your video is inspirational.
I am hoping to get a ford transit and eventually get a high top on it. I want to find out how it does in the wind first, I love the way you have gotten it more organized it looks great.
It’s a 24 inch high top. Our friend Seven could stand in it and Dave from Dave2D and they are both around 6’3”. They also make 30 inch hightop and that one would for sure allow you to stand up fully inside.
Mounting the solar panel issue comes to mind. I almost wonder if when it was being customized if they could have maybe platformed a spot to shape for it. I mean they were able to leave holes for the fans so I do wonder if that were possible. That is the one thing I often think about with the high top you got. It no doubt is amazing. The place did an amazing job too because it looks so natural ontop of your van.
Thank you! Rude comments are part of the gig these days. People feel like they are invisible behind the keyboard and the screen. They would never be able to say things like that in person though. I’m glad you found this video helpful :) that means a lot!
Evie, why did you get such high-profile vents instead of the ones that sit flat? I know MaxxAir has some that only add a couple of inches to the height. Then maybe you could get into parking garages.
Wow. So much negativity here. I appreciate this video. Thanks for your perspective. Did you cover the cost of the high top? I am thinking of buying a low or medium top and having it modified, but I would like to weigh out cost. Please let me know. Thank you.
Is it possible to put the factory top back on? I feel I would totally regret it. I feel the lighting was better for Instagram photos in the past. I also like how cozy the old top was. I really regret you getting the new top.
Yes. Go to wrecking yard with a power saw. Take a sledge hammer to fiberglass top. Weld old/new top one. Leave lots of welding beads exposed. Use 10 cans of spray paint. It'll look great in your trailer park.
hello there Evie how high is the inside now with the hightop in place? I'm6'5" tall and have decided to buy a skoolie to convert into a stealth bus. I need leg room. love your videos and tattoos as well. thank you. 😊😊😊😜
We are fine with bridges. Although I have seen a few train track bridges that are super low (usually in more rural places). We do have issues with garages, drive thrus (sometimes we don’t want to get out of the van haha), and car washes. But we are used to it now. The biggest issue is the parking garage. We do have a dog and when we want/need to go somewhere where she is not allowed, we need to park in the shade. Thanks for the comment :)
I had an idea, maybe pool noodles will work on the exposed metal at bottom of high top. Slice one side or you might need to cut a strip out. Then spray adhesive some cloth material on the noodle so it looks better Strong caulk adhesive to keep the noodles in place
I wonder why you didn't buy a van that is already built high enough. The Springer for example. High and diesel. Far more efficient and allows for a tiny diesel harder, which others have rated very highly.
Sprinters are expensive to maintain. 1. Parts are expensive and hard to come by. 2. It’s hard to find mechanics who know how to work on them. 3. Even if you find a mechanic who knows how to work on them, finding one that is willing to open the hood is even harder. 4. Working on a sprinter yourself is hard and they make it very hard (hence why mechanics hate working on them) 5. They are expensive. Finding a sprinter that is within our budget and in good condition was impossible. Plus they have rust problems like crazy.
Things that delay vanlife/nomad living ... not being willing to build as you go. If you let the things you don’t have yet keep you off the road, you will just stay off the road.
so if you have mega bucks you can purchase things like that some people just have to get by on a budget. more height is cool for inside motions but the higher the roof the less fuel economy your going to get so your going to have to compensate ne way or the other
You spend 4 Gs on a roof and you don't have 1 heating system or cooling system in your build? Not even the climate control in the dashbord? And btw I think keeping the dog in the van just has more to do with the kind of build you have and whether you made it animal friendly enough. I think you should be able to get a cooling system in there that doesn't take up too much energy for a whole lot less than 4 Gs.
Thank you. Evie! You answered my big question-- can you get a high top on an extended cargo van & relative cost. This video had awesome info about specifics, well & the answer you gave to a commentor's question. I now know you went through Fiberine in LA and that they do excellent work. Thank you! Will you be showing your van in a video or did you already, up close with details, explanations?
I already have back problems, so I know I need something where I can stand up (without having to get out of the vehicle). I've already decided that there's just no way I can do a normal van. High-top vans are very rare and/or expensive, so I'm looking at buses now since you can easily stand up in those. I'm just cringing at the amount of fuel it takes to run buses....
School bus is our next vehicle. We have been talking about it and decided that all the pros of the school bus outweigh the cons of the school bus. Maybe in a year or so we will have a school bus. Who knows :)
expensive.. lol.. shows ppls perspective.. ive seen ppl make better custom high tops for mere hundreds... alot these days actually.. laziness really costs tho.. i at least understand that..
Lordie girl..take a breath, you have information to share, and that is appreciated, but all your words run together in a monotone. I couldn't tell other than standing up if you are truly happy with your investment installing a high top.
This video is highly informative, and just the things I needed to know. I knew I wanted a high top when I get a van to live in, now I'm even more convinced. Thank you, Evie!
I know exactly what you're talking about with the airflow and the dog we have one and we ran into the same problem but we work it out and we have portable air conditioners and fans inside and we leave the windows open and I just said to your channel I hope that you will check my channel out and sub
Hate when they ask to subscribe BEFORE i even get a chance to find out if its worth it or not...THEN they spend ten minutes telling you what they are gonna talk about...and THEN they jusy YAP and show nothing!
Bought the van knowing we will get a hightop. Built everything for the hightop. Worked for over two years and saved every penny so I can buy the van and pay for the hightop.
I've had good luck selling dreamcatchers. they are an impulse item. maybe you could do up some Evie nova dream catchers see if it catches. get it? haha I made a funny. but seriously they would probably sell
how are the brakes doing with all that extra weight? I have heard Jed mention that the brakes are squishy in a couple of his videos. you might want to get that checked . I kind of worry about you guys and those squishy brakes

Finding a sprinter that is within our budget and in good condition was impossible. Plus they have rust problems like crazy.
The Turbos fail in Mercedes Sprinters, 10K USD just to replace the turbo!!
some people are blessed with a fat bank account and can buy new and high and all that good stuff
Things that delay vanlife/nomad living ... not being willing to build as you go. If you let the things you don’t have yet keep you off the road, you will just stay off the road.
so if you have mega bucks you can purchase things like that some people just have to get by on a budget. more height is cool for inside motions but the higher the roof the less fuel economy your going to get so your going to have to compensate ne way or the other
New sun. This is very informative
She is poor.
How tall are you? We are looking into getting a high top van and want to know the height inside!
Go to Fiberine website. They have a variety of options.
Thank you.
Great video! Maybe if you open the doors and we saw your van it wouldn't have sucked. Thanks for standing there and running your lips the whole time
She's wearing too many clothes.
I like it. It looks good on the van.
You can see the inside in my previous videos where I show the inside right after the install
I'll look for it .thanks
Omg my 2001 Chevy Express 2500 with 150k and in great shape only cost me 2000$ I hope you weren’t taken advantage of for that top.
Outbackbuildingsplus Outbackbuildingsplus yours is a high top yes?
@@fibsniper786 yes
High top is nice but it screams camper so stealth cramping is harder
Get a professional lettering job that says "Joey's Septic Tank Cleaning". No one will touch your van.
It just knocks me out of my parking garage stealth camping when I travel
I REALLY liked the opening to this video...very impressive.
Wonderful and honest advice. Thank you
what is your new mpg with the high-top?
15mpg and that’s included highway and city combined. We also drove through the mountains when we were recording the mpg
I like the high top, because i will not be in the city's..love you'll keep it coming
Can you still put solar panels on top of it?
in what universe, did you think, that never actually going inside the van, was a good idea?
It's a portal to another dimension so...
It's the next natural step from where you are now, I suppose. Good luck, and thanks to you both for all the informative videos. Very helpful. :)
Thank you for sharing your information on high tops.
It helps me make some decisions.
Hugs guys,
MommaFaye
Hold up... I can't tell but at 2:28 is she saying that $4,000 was expensive for this? I'd pay $4K in a second for something like this.
They are poor. You are rich. What can I say.
expensive.. lol.. shows ppls perspective.. ive seen ppl make better custom high tops for mere hundreds... alot these days actually.. laziness really costs tho.. i at least understand that..
Yeah, just lazy. No skill involved making a hightop.
Lordie girl..take a breath, you have information to share, and that is appreciated, but all your words run together in a monotone. I couldn't tell other than standing up if you are truly happy with your investment installing a high top.
Geeze I hoped we would see the inside of new hightop. Bummer.
I want to see her in a bikini.
If I had a van I would definitely want a high top or pop up... enjoy the journey..... 🚐😬
yep the bigger the van the more they suck in the city that was very good though now all you have to do is make the inside look pretty
This video is highly informative, and just the things I needed to know. I knew I wanted a high top when I get a van to live in, now I'm even more convinced. Thank you, Evie!
Think about low profile. Fiberine makes a variety of tops.
I know exactly what you're talking about with the airflow and the dog we have one and we ran into the same problem but we work it out and we have portable air conditioners and fans inside and we leave the windows open and I just said to your channel I hope that you will check my channel out and sub
Enjoyed it? Why not show what the heck you were yacking about it would have been more informative?
You can watch 2 other videos I’ve done about the hightop where I show all the details and talk about the whole process :)
like the concept of sharing your experience but suggest a quiet place to record your show.. background is annoying
is it Travel Time or time travel????/
Thanks Evie, great information..
Nice get away sticks.
like the new intro and intro music.... change to logo to reflect your van or change it to reflect you...
I love your videos Thanks for the great job
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and ideas with us, please have a blessed evening and thank you for your ideas.
I have a extended van. I have been living in for 10 years. I'm looking for a high top. Let me remove yours and I will weld my metal roof
to your van.
Hate when they ask to subscribe BEFORE i even get a chance to find out if its worth it or not...THEN they spend ten minutes telling you what they are gonna talk about...and THEN they jusy YAP and show nothing!
Good info! Would love to see the inside before you finish it.
I cannot imaging a van without high top. One should be able to stand at least in the cooking area.
big mess , uneven roof. lol
sorry. mistakes hapen. wonder if she is still with him ?
expensive taste for minimal living. I remember back when Jed was broke living off canned food in Florida.
Bought the van knowing we will get a hightop. Built everything for the hightop. Worked for over two years and saved every penny so I can buy the van and pay for the hightop.
Evie Nova good job. Jed has come a long way with his channel as well. I still remember the long haired quiet dude in the Astro haha.
Brakes should work fine. These are cargo vans. Just get top-notch parts.
You need a kayak and paddleboard,, and a road bike and mountain bike,,and a snorkel,,
00:35 intro music 2:30 yak yak intro!
Great video Evie, thanks for your other videos too! :)
like that van it long an nice
new subscriber let's c what u got RSA
Well at least with the high top your not smacking your head on the roof when you are doing your russian situps.
